hi
please tell me what mono is. as a u.k. poster i keep seeing this and just had to ask.

Mono is short for Mononucleosis. In the UK, they call it "glandular fever."

The incubation period is 2-6 weeks. The symptoms:
* Most patients have few if any symptoms (most adults show serological evidence of previous EBV infection). The incubation period is not accurately known but is probably between two and six weeks.
* Fatigue and prolonged malaise
* Sore throat
* Lymphadenopathy, especially neck glands
* Low grade fever
* Nausea and anorexia
* Arthralgias and myalgias occur but are less common than in other viral infectious diseases and rarely severe.
* Other symptoms include cough, chest pain, and photophobia.
* Older adults and elderly patients often have few throat symptoms or signs and have little or no lymphadenopathy.

So you can have a mild case of it with just a cough or sore throat for a few weeks. Then when you get rundown you can start showing other signs.

ok i got another 2, people who spend 1/2 an hr setting up their photo and think everyone else should just stand there and wait or they get mad when someone walks in front of them...get your camera ready, get your group together how you want them THEN go the entire way across the only walk way around and ask everyone to stand clear so they aren't in your picture. don't hold up everyone else who happens to be walking in your vacinity while you make countless adjustments. ( i like to take pictures to but don't expect the world to stop revoling for me to do so:0)

video camera operators who think "I have a camera therefore i and only i deserve to walk here" there are thousands of people in the parks, expect that someone may get in your view!

People who not only stop..but stop right in the exits of rides and attractions so you just about walk into them. Often they are in large groups of people, four or five and the exit is blocked....grrrrrr

People who talk through every attraction and ride..they never seem to be able to close their mouths....grrrrrrr

People who feel that since we are adults they have the RIGHT to come over to the table at a character meal and tell the character that the next table has kids waiting. (this has happened twice to us). Both times the character spent even more time with us after ignorant parent's remark.... :sunny:

People who make rude remarks about other peoples size when getting on rides. This used to happen a lot on TOT before the seatbelts when they had the lap bars only.....grrrrrrr

When parents FORCE kids to go on rides they do not want to go on....We saw a kid pass out from fright on AE a few years ago. The poor kid was terrified and screamed through the whole show and then fainted.

Ugh! Sometimes I hate these abbreviations. What the heck is AE?

People using electric wheelchairs who don't know how to use them -- driving too fast for crowd and or unable/unwilling to use the brake in large crowds. I've seen many people mowed down by electric vehicles at WDW.

Just for the record, there ARE no brakes on an ECV, or on an electric wheelchair (two completely different items, by the way). The only way to stop either type of vehicle is to release the throttle (ECV) or joystick (electric wheelchair) and even then, momentum carries them forward a bit before stopping.
There are brakes on a manual wheelchair, but they're only for use in keeping the chair from moving once it's stopped, they don't stop the chair - only the operator can do that. And that depends on the operator's reaction time.

2. When I open doors for others who then walk on through and don't utter a word of thanks.

Ah, I don't let that bother me. I still say "You're welcome" :)

Seeing a family with a wheelchair bound guest and then seeing that same family all throughout the park with a different person in the wheelchair each time. Alot of people have disabilities that are unseen but in these cases you know that's not what's going on

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but several years ago I was at the Food & Wine Festival with some friends, one of whom had recently had surgery. She was using an ECV because she really couldn't walk around the park all day, but she DID have to do SOME walking - so occasionally she'd walk and somebody else would ride for a while.

The former Alien Encounter, now revamped as Stitch

Ok, despite the fact that I love Disney to the fullest, I do have some pet peeves!

1. I too get annoyed when people randomly stop right in front of a moving crowd. (hint: if you are going to have to stop, stop at the side so you don't get run over!)

2. I don't like how people feel a need to tell their family members what is about to happen next during a ride (ex: It was my first time in "Stitiches Great Escape" and I heard this voice behind me saying, "ok now he is going to..." and "He then...and you can feel...so be ready ok?") I was hopeing that the ride would be a fun surprise for me considering it was new and all. I understand that he/she was proabably really excited, but he/she should vent his/her need to spoil the ride before he/she actually gets in and ruins it for all.

3. I get annoyed with the people who talk as if Disney is the worse place they had ever been to. Obviously they have no idea about how truely "Magical" the Disney experience is.

Oh, and I had to mention. Earlier in this thread someone had mentioned that the view was the same in a 3D show no matter where you sit. I have a few sources to prove that wrong. First, I have done extensive reading on Disney and have read that the middle is the ideal pace to sit and the closer to get the ends, the more blurred the show gets. My second sourse is my own experience. I moved down to the end to fill spaces and the show was not good. I couldn't see anything but blur.

AE stood for Alien Encounter, now Stitch's Great Escape.

i better stop reading this thread cause i keep thinking of more...

ok i realize some people just feel they have to have the perfect parade spot ie in Jan no less I saw 2 older women waiting about 2 hrs pre-parade with their arms folded across their chests just daring anyone to come within 50 ft of them( also about 10 ft back from the curb... ahh, did they really think no one was going to go in front of them :rolleyes: ),,,if that's how you want to waste i mean spend your time in disney that's your choice

I however would rather walk up and watch it, i wouldn't push thru, i wouldn't stand in front of any one but give me a break you saved enough room for your family the whole curb/sidewalk doesn't belong to you. is it really that big of deal to let some little kid next to you especially those like the back pack lady mentioned before..who knows how big her family is unless they are backpack sized ...guess i'm just not that kind of person and may not have ever noticed those two old crabs last time if i didn't know about parade nazis from this board. personally , since my kids are grown i get as more fun from the expressions on the little kids' faces watching the parade than i do from the actual parade so if i have room in front of me they are more than welcome to stand there ... i'll teach my granddaughter it's nice to share "your" space just like i did my own kids

People who allow their children to run screaming up and down hotel hallways at 11 pm and 6 am. People who decide to meet their group at 6 am in the hallway outside a hotel room and talk/laugh loudly while they wait!!! Ther ARE manners in hotels, just like in society, right? :confused3 :rolleyes1

MayMom. I'm so glad you said that! I thought I was the only one that was bothered by this behavior! I can remember my father shushing me and telling me to be considerate of others that might still be asleep. We've begun asking for rooms at the end of hallways just to try and avoid that problem!
I have a feeling there might be a bond between these inconsiderate folks and the ones that manage to squeeze in and perfectly block our view at the parades or shows we've waited an hour for. On our last trip in April, when a family of four pushed right ahead of us (and we were already leaning on the railing, mind you) for Illuminations, I nearly lost it! How about a tee shirt that says "Magic only happens when we're considerate of one another" a/k/a "Hey, buddy, I paid a lot of money for MY vacation, too!"

People who use the urinals without washing their hands, then leave the bathrooms and head straight for the drinking fountains.
That's just one more vote for bottled water.

:earseek:

That feeling I get inside after 6 days of being around folks like that...the one where I start looking for the Clock Tower the start "thinning the population". pirate:

Chris

People that can't read the sign at the top and bottom of the escalators that says "NO STROLLERS"! At the Disneyland Resort instead of using the elevator people roll their strollers right onto the escalator with the kids still inside. Do they not know just how dangerous that is? :confused3

Thanks for replying, I enjoyed reading some of the responses.

To put things in perspective, everything we all complained about is nothing compared to what the poor people in New Orleans are going through.

God help them all.

Amen about the people in Katrina's path. It is a terrible tragedy for America. I had to add my response because one day in MK I stopped suddenly in the path and a vicious lady with a stroller rode up my leg drawing blood and said "thats what you get for stopping!" Either she didn't see or didn't care that an elderly gentleman with a cane stopped suddenly in front of me and I would never have barrelled over him!

hi
thanks phamton for answer, i wouldn't wish glandular fever on anybody it is so debilitating. hope everybody keeps their coughs and sneezes in their hankerchiefs whilst we are there in twoweeks time.

Number one, the stopping in the middle of nothing thing. Whether it is to check a map/sip water/ask questions.....step aside and let the others "flow".

Second, Anyone acting like they are the only one on vacation.

Petpeeves of the moment: The fam and I went to DL with my parents (Mom and S-Dad of one year)

My folks started smoking again. DL has different smoking locations spread far out. I will never go to DL again with them. It was a huge waste of time. It was interesting watching them from a distance, in a "corral" with the rest of the smokers. We went ahead and got into the Pirates line. Folks were over by the river. I really dislike people cutting in front of me, so I do not allow it with my group either. Sigh, my folks got the smoking done and wanted to cut in. DH let them in.

Oh, and a new pet peeve I thought I would NEVER have to see.....
My step Dad watching the riverboat go by near the New Orleans section. Fond memories from the real N.O. came to him? I dunno. He shouted at the people on board IN DISNEYLAND..."Hey, show us your *its!!!!!!!!!!"

My mom was the only one in OUR group that witnessed this, but OTHERS were subjected to his crude behaivor!

I was APPALLED! Nope, never again will I go to DL with them. They just do not get it.

Oh my pet peeves are

1. when you're waiting in line for a ride and the line starts moving but the people in front of you decided not to move.

2. when you're waiting in line and parents aren't controlling their kids and the kids run down the line or ar fighting with each other, or are just on top of you because they think the closer they are to you the faster the line will go.

3. the giant brazilian tour groups, they drive me crazy every time :rotfl2:

Oh i missed one..also when you're waiting for the parade to start and parents think its ok to decide to move thier children right in front of you

People who wear their young children out then scream at them when they act grumpy.

it always makes me a bit sad and makes me chuckle at the same time, when i hear a parent yell at a kid...STOP FIGHTING AND HAVE A GOOD TIME. The kid is upset about something, yelling at him to have a good time makes no sense :rotfl:

Speaking of which, do they always stay at the Polynesian, or is it my imagination?
