broken wrist.:( He fell on his swing on Thursday and I thought he just sprained it.:( He broke his radius.:( We have to wait until next week to put a cast on it though. He's got a splint on it. Evidentally those dr's don't know 6 yo little boys too well. That temporary thing isn't gonna last 10 days.

My SO got so upset at the medical establishment in general. He took him to the dr (first time he's ever done that for either of the kids:rolleyes: ). The dr told him to take him to the hospital for xrays. They stopped by work to get me to go with them. All in all with the dr, the hospital, etc. it was a little over 5 hours for them to put a temporary thing on. No telling how long it'll take at the ortho next week. My SO muttered over and over again "They should xray it at the dr, put the cast on at the dr's, but no! They want you to spread your money out to everyone and waste everyone's time." Luckily our 6 yo has more patience than we do at the hospital or we'd both been stir crazy. Dakota gave us some comic relief.:p

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie for you, your baby and your frustrated SO.

I found out about the broken bone thing and doctors the hard way myself. I broke my arm, went to the nearest convenience clinic. They x-rayed it said it was broken and sent me to the ER

I hope your ds doesn't have too much pain until they can get his wrist in a cast.

Thanks Katholyn. He's not in much pain at all-that's why I didn't know it was broken.:(

He went to dr, they sent us to the hospital, we ended up in the ER because no one in xray could fix a splint. We confused about 1/2 the hospital while we were there. We were in the ER being treated as outpatient, and somehow-yet again-they couldn't find a record that we ever checked in as outpatient (somehow our charts get misplaced, this time his stuff in the computer got misplaced. I wish the bill would get misplaced.;) ).

I hope your arm healed nicely.:)

:( Sorry to hear this Shannon. I know about this my DS had 2 broken Arms, not at one time, but I took him to the Emergency Room both times. Both his Wrists are FLAT thanks to incompetent Dr's. One did not leave the cast on long enough, the other gave him 3 casts!

Sorry to hear about your little guy, Browneyes!!! {{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you and him.

Oh, so sorry to hear that Shannon. Give your little guy a big {{{HUGS}}} for me.

I don't get this "temporary" cast thing. Why not the regular cast right away? Do they need to wait for swelling to go down?

Faith, 3 casts? My mom was encouraging (NOT). I just called to tell her about it all. Told her we have to wait 10 days before he gets the cast on. She said they'd probably have to rebreak it to set it properly. I'm not sure if I can watch them hurt my baby. I know I will if I have to, but I'm gonna need lots of kleenexes because I'll be squawling like a baby the whole time. They'll need to sedate me. He'll probably be fine-but I know I won't be (he's tougher than I am:o ).

Thanks Kitty.:)

Oh I can relate!

I broke my radius/ulna when I was around 12 years old. I rank the pain from a broken wrist right up there with natural childbirth!

Back then we used the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. My Mom took me there, they took an x-ray immediately, and then two doctors re-set it right then and there--no anesthetic, NOTHING! Today, they take the patient to the O.R., sedate them, then re-set it!

I had a splint cast on for a week-to allow for the swelling to go down, then a full cast to my shoulder for 4 weeks, then a half cast to the elbow for 2 more weeks!

Marilyn, there's not any swelling. My son's dr told my SO he wanted us to go to an Orthopedic dr for the cast if we needed one after he had his xrays. I'm sure he told Allen why, but dr's make Allen really nervous-he probably didn't listen to the details. The xray tech was gonna send us to the ER for the cast. Like I said, I have no idea why we're having to go to the Ortho. The xray tech didn't seem surprised about the dr's orders, so I assumed it was something routinely done. None of the rest of us have had broken bones before (well, I think I broke my toe a few months ago, but I didn't go to the dr for confirmation).

Kathy, he'll have to wear the splint for 10 days. The RN in the ER told us he'd probably have to wear the real cast for 4 weeks or so. She wasn't for certain how long. The splint is much like a cast though. He's got it going from his forearm to the top part of his hand. They used that quick set cloth stuff (not sure what it's called). He's wearing a sling and he hates that sling. What's fun is he can't take a shower because of the splint. He can't really take a bath because he has bilateral tubes. Bathtime is gonna be fun.

Awww...sorry Shannon! At least the summer is almost over. Speaking from experience, having a cast in the heat of summer stinks!! Literally sometimes! ;) {{{{hugs}}}} to you and your little guy!

Thanks Marilyn, I'll update everyone.:) Thanks for the hugs.:)

LOL! Jodie, I can't wait for the stinkin' problem. We got out to the truck and he was complaining about the itching. I told him to wait until the cast, I heard the itching is MUCH worse then.:o

Yikes....poor kid. I hope that things go ok, and his arm heals quickly. I hare ERs a;ways takes forever!!! HUgs to all of you!

LOL! Glo when it comes to me or my son being in a medical environment, everything takes longer.:o Don't know why though. Bad luck? Or they might just love our company too much.:p

Ugh...the itching! Tell your son that dunking his cast into a creek might sound refreshing at the time but it's reaaaallly not a good idea! ;) Baby powder sprinkled into the cast will help if he itches!

Awww, the poor boy. I hope he heels up quickly! {{hugs}} to you both.

I forgot about using baby powder. A friend of mine broke her arm in high school, and she said baby powder was her best friend. I forgot all about that! Thanks for the reminder Jodie!

Thanks Elaine.:)

Awwww....poor guy....:(

I'm with your SO, Shannon. That's ridiculous.

I hope the setting healing goes well.
