Must fill sandwich size zip lock with 100 items!

My dd loved 100 day in Kindergarten. She did 100 mini marshmallows. Our instructions were to help them count out 100 of something, so it needed parent involvement.

They had a whole day centered around 100. They had different stations where they did 100 jumping jacks, used 100 beads to make a necklace (teaches how to count out 10 groups of 10 beads etc). It was fun, but the 100 things in a bag was just a small part, I wouldn't sweat it.

All the same thing or different things? I eould think the teacher is looking for some creativity rather than just counting out 100 M&Ms & putting them into a ziploc.
Look around your house....there are a million small things.
Buttons, pins, paper clips, hair bows, elastic bands, legos, cereal, M&Ms, Skittles, water bottle tops, soda can tabs....

I've taught kindergarten, and I can assure you that creativity is not the point. It is the counting to 100 that's important. I assume this is a 100th day of school activity.

in our school the entire day centers around 100. It starts when they arrive, they have to hop through a giant wooden 100. They eat 100 pieces of cereal for breakfast. They count everything and draw things 100 times. they wear hats with 100. They present their 100 day projects. They jump a hundred times at recess. It goes on and on!:confused3

Thanks for explaining. I didn't know there was a whole day centered around it. That sounds much better than the assignment itself.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but what exactly is the point of this assignment? It seems to be a common assignment used everywhere. If the parents are helping, and it sounds like the vast majority are, what is the child getting out of this? I'm guessing it is to show them what 100 different things look like....100 pennies look different than 100 paper clips and so on? But since they all fit neatly inside a sandwich bag, the kids aren't going to notice a huge difference. 100 shoes versus 100 pennies would make an impact. It sounds like busy work where many parents come up with the theme, but maybe I'm missing something.

in K...Ours was a poster board and they had to count out groups of 10 and they are told to make something creative with it. DS15 just did 10 groups or random things bc that is what I thought was the project and so did he. Turns out others had "themes" like making rainbows with Skilttles or a kid looking in the sky (a picture of that kid) at 100 different stars in groups of 10. DS15 at the time was bummed that his wasnt more creative. So for DS10 we did a drive thru safari (inspired by AK). We found stickers of 10 different animals and he drew a bus that drove through the safair of animals...this was all on a poster board.

Then in 1st grade, they had to bring in a 100 of anything. I dont remember what DS15 did but DS10 did drinking straws. At the time I could not figure out anything in my house nor could he that we had a 100 of, didnt even have a 100 pennies. The only thing we had was Qtips, and I got an ewwwww. So I took him to Kmart and I kind of "directed" him to the straws. He "thought" it was his idea but I wanted to get out of there and be done with the project.

They also have a huge 100 day celebration each year, mainly for K and 1st grade.

If I was headed to WDW like the OP before the project was due, I would definitely suggest a Disney theme bag of 100s. I would do the confetti idea, you can pick up so much of that after a parade!

Mickey stickers! Confetti, Mickey straws, taffy, lollipops, pencils?

One year we sent in 100 Boxtops for Education. We had been saving them for a while- but it killed two birds with one stone ;)

You know what I don't understand? Why it seems like everything has to have a Disney theme! Pet names, school projects, gifts, desserts, jewelery...

I understand this is a message board devoted to Disney fans but not every.single.thing. needs or should be Disney themed.

Mom, it's great that you are helping your 5 year old with her project, but really, the Disney theme is for you, not her.

You dont know that...my kids always try to fit Disney into their projects somehow...DS15 in 4th grade did Walt Disney for a biography project, in 8th grade he did a research paper on the Walt Disney Corporation. He wanted to do the Kingdom Keepers for a container book report in 6th grade. but then changed his mind at the last minute to a Harry Potter book. He also did Milton Hershey bc we go to HP every summer and NYE!

DS10 was the one who suggested the Safari for his 100 Day project to make it like the one at AK. I just suggested animals since I already had some stickers. Right now he is doing the same biography project as his brother did in 4th, he was mad that DS15 got to Walt Disney and he didnt. So we looked at some other names, and he came up with Jim Henson bc the Muppets are at Disney:thumbsup2.

My kids(esp DS15) are very independent thinkers and usually come up with their own ideas although I will veto something if I know we cant find materials or I will help them come up with some ideas once the original subject matter is picked!

I think the OP just wanted to suggest something fun and different to her DD, there is no harm in that. Some kids dont want theirs to be the same as their classmates where others would love to be the same as Johnny or Suzie.

DD did 100 small black pom poms (from Micheals), glued onto poster board in the shape of her new Poodle puppy.

She's a college freshman, and I still remember the 100th day activities.

My grandson's school did this last year when he was in 1st grade and I thought it was the most disgusting thing ever. I sent in 100 Trader Joe's scratch and sniff stickers (his father is a manager at TJ's)
The kids brought in 100 beans, fruit loops, marshmallows, gummy bears, etc... There were 25 kids in his class so he brought home a baggie filled with 4 gummy bears, 4 marshmallows, 4 TJ's stickers etc... that had been touched by who knows how many dirty hands that had done who knows what and where they had been. I told him to look at the bag and then toss it out. YUCK! luckily he didn't eat any of the items.
He is in a magnet school this year and they don't do this kind of stuff and I sure am glad. If they did I would suggest to the teacher that she ask for 100 non edible items.

My DD had to make a shadow box of the ocean floor in 3rd grade. You can bet she hid a sticker of Ariel in there! I believe Nemo was swimming through too.

For this project, I would let the kid decide. But if she chose pasta (OP mentioned the pantry) I might then suggest buying the Mickey Shaped pasta in Disney.

Get 100 pony beads and string them onto yarn or whatever and make a necklace. That will keep it more organized and less likely to spill out of the bag.

We did 100 bingo chips.

100th day was a big deal at our school for Kindergarten too. DS11 and DS12 had to make a paper bag vest and put 100 things on it. DS12 did foam stickers and DS11 did a lion stamp.

I like the idea of 100 autographs. That would be cool and you could probably get a small autograph book to fit in a ziploc bag. You could do characters, cast members, other guests, security guards.

.

OMG my daughter did this one year too- they came home with a bag with M&M's, skittles, peanuts, fruit loops, cheerios, marshmallows, mini cookies, animal crackers etc- we tossed it too- all those germy little hands touching and counting the stuff out and then eating it- BLECH!

The OP said her daughter is five and that the child's imagination was limited to what she could see in the pantry. That tells me that the OP wants it to be Disney themed and that the OP wants it to be different from the others.
