Must fill sandwich size zip lock with 100 items!

We did Lego character heads when my son had do that project. We had a lot of Legos.

Maybe 100 photos from your trip? If you're gone 10 days you could try and get her to find 10 things per day that she would want to include. You could trim them after if size was a concern. That might be a bit pricey though...

At WDW - from the stores: Salt Water Taffy, a few of those mickey head shaped bracelets would probably turn into 100 mickey head beads, Pick a brick wall at the Lego Store, Goofy & co fruit snacks, stamps from the kidcot stations? I'll bet the candy store has a ton. I'll bet also, if you asked (early in your trip, of course!) a couple of different CMs either at stores, shops, restaurants, or your concierge, they'd have a TON of ideas!

free at WDW: photos of hidden mickeys (although these would cost a bit to print), mickey stickers - I'll bet if you asked a CM that was handing them out, they may just give you a bunch. Same with confetti. Disney sprinkles (like they put on the birthday cupcakes or ice cream - ask a CM?) Leis from Poly - DD came home with 23 of them from 1 dinner at Ohana!!!

Other things from home - glow bracelets - they are $1 for 15 of them at Michaels and sometimes Target too, pencils, erasers... hit up the dollar store and see what comes in pkgs.

Good luck - let us know what you come up with!!!

Also, OP, I have a question for you - your Mickey punch - do you have the medium punch or the large punch? The medium is said to be a 1" mickey head - is that 1" across the main head or 1" including the ears? Like could I punch that mickey head out of a 1" circle, or would it only get part of it? (the Large/ whale of a punch is supposed to be 1.5"-1.75") I'm trying to figure out which one to order. TIA!

:thumbsup2

It is, after all, HER assignment.

Whenever we got this assignment it was a FAMILY project, not just HER assignment. One year we took a t-shirt and glued 100 googley eyes to it in the shaped of 100- she wore it to school the day the project was due.

Thanks for all the ideas, she is 5 so her imagination is limited to what she can see in our pantry, or drawers. I was kinda looking for Disney ideas, since we are headed there in a few days. It's not going to make her feel like she's done anything special if 10 other kids show up with pennies, pastas, m&m's, etc... It must fit in the sandwich size ziplock.
I like the pictures idea, will definitely get at least a 100 of those.

These are all great ideas! Thanks so much! We have a tiny Mickey head punch, we used it to accent our marriage invitations. Only about 1/4 inch heads.

Also curious where do you find the Mickey head photos, that would be extra fun for all the kids.

Our school always did 2 projects for 100s day. The kids had to bring 100 edible items in a ziplock (M&Ms, Goldfish, etc.). The teacher would mix it all together and each child would get a baggie of "friendship mix."

Then there was a project using 100 of some item. We found little plastic Mickey head beads at the craft store. DS glued them onto a frame and we put in a picture from a Disneyland trip. Older DS made a train out of pasta wheels on poster board.

Ours was always 'family work' especially since really young kids have no clue regarding spacial stuff. What if whe decided to use 100 spoons? or 100 crayons or 100 shoes? All of those would take parental involvement. You have to be realistic but I agree to allow her to come up with ideas with guidance.

If my child thought she could fit 100 shoes into a sandwich-sized bag, I'd have bigger problems, mainly realizing my child has serious disabilities!

And if she thought she could fit 100 spoons or 100 crayons in, I would tell her to count out 10 groups of 10, and find out. If they were too big, then I'd watch her try to find something smaller. Isn't that the point? That SHE learns to count to 100, and learns to visualize how much that is?

"Family assignment" seems to be code for "take over and do it yourself while the kid watches".

Why is that a bad thing? I mean, if the assignment is for her to gather up 100 things that fit in a ziplock, then why can't she suggest things from the pantry? I understand wanting to do a Disney theme, but wouldn't the goal of the assignment be better accomplished by letting your daughter choose the items to bag, instead of you selecting htem for her?

And as far as feeling special, are you certain she would be disappointed if someone else also brough in the same bag fillers as she does? Or would *you* be disappointed? I am not so sure kids that age would care that intensely. In fact, I can think of a few I know who would have thought it was awesome if another kid had the same "great" idea he or she did.

:confused3

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but what exactly is the point of this assignment? It seems to be a common assignment used everywhere. If the parents are helping, and it sounds like the vast majority are, what is the child getting out of this? I'm guessing it is to show them what 100 different things look like....100 pennies look different than 100 paper clips and so on? But since they all fit neatly inside a sandwich bag, the kids aren't going to notice a huge difference. 100 shoes versus 100 pennies would make an impact. It sounds like busy work where many parents come up with the theme, but maybe I'm missing something.

Agreed.

Why does she need to feel special? And why are you doing this? Both my kids did this in kindergarten. They each put in 100 pennies. They suggested it, they counted the pennies, they put it in the bag.

I would use things like old pieces from games no longer played with like an old monopoly game. The money community chest cards or pieces. Old pieces of jewelry , earrings that you have been missing, nothing of value. Kids rooms always seem to have allot of little things floating around.

does your child have a pressed penny collection yet? If so, could you add to it to make a hundred.

I wouldn't start one just for this project, a bit too pricey!:rotfl:

I think the stickers and confetti are great cheap alternatives and go with the Disney theme.

We always had 2 projects:

1. bring in 100 pieces of cereal for breakfast.
2. family project...these could get quite elaborate

For our first, we made a wooden "plinko" board using 100 nails....Price is Right style.

for our second, we made a 3 foot tall palm tree and glued foam letters to it...chicka chicka boom boom style.

I wouldn't do 100 pressed pennies, but along with the confetti and punched paper, putting one cute Disney pressed penny would be cute since you want Mickey ideas. There might be other small items like erasers. I bought a tin of Disney mints. Those are very small and shaped like Disney characters.

in our school the entire day centers around 100. It starts when they arrive, they have to hop through a giant wooden 100. They eat 100 pieces of cereal for breakfast. They count everything and draw things 100 times. they wear hats with 100. They present their 100 day projects. They jump a hundred times at recess. It goes on and on!:confused3

It is the celebration recognizing the 100th day of school. And yes, a lot of busy projects.

As a teacher and parent, I can tell you that nothing - and I really mean nothing - will make her feel more special with this assignment than coming up with her own idea and executing it with as little parental involvement as possible.
