*~* Muggles, Welcome to the Burrow! *~*

Also, I sense that Remus often acted as the voice of reason when they were younger. He strikes me as a slightly calming influence to Sirius and James' hotheadedness.

ITA. Lupin has always seemed to be a calm, logical, and even wise-beyond-his-years figure to both Sirius and Harry. In his interactions with Harry, Lupin is often the voice of reason (especially in OOTP) as he probably was to James.

From www.darkmark.com:

Jason Isaacs, Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter, recently spoke about the closing scenes of the Order of the Phoenix movie, particularly the battle he shot alongside Gary Oldman (Sirius Black). Also, the actor made contact with J.K. and presented a case for her to include his character in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

"I fell to my knees and begged. It didn't do any good. I'm sure she doesn't need plot ideas from me. But I made my point. We'll see. Like everybody else, I'm holding my breath to July to see what's in there. I just want to bust out of prison, that's all. I don't want to stay in Azkaban most of my life."

NOTE: Even though Mr. Isaacs said July for the release of book 7, no official date has been announced yet.

Did Jason Isaacs let the cat out of the bag!??!!? Hmmmmm .... makes me wonder!!!! Why would he reference July as opposed to any other month!? Would he be a person "in the know"?! Thoughts!?!?

I think he is saying "July" just like the rest of us are. I have heard that many of these actors have become hooked on the books as well, so look forward to reading the next one just like we do.

Honestly, I can wait as long as I have to, to read the next book. I want to know what happens, but I have been enjoying the fandom and it's discussions. After it's over, it's over. No more. Ever. So, as corny as it is, things like this thread is what makes the wait so worth it to me. I'll be sad when it's over. :sad1:

I completely agree w/you. It's so much fun ... the excitement that comes w/knowing a book is in the works and close to coming out.

After this last book comes out and it's all "tied up" with a neat bow and we've discussed the daylights out of it, there will be no more HP chatter (except for the movies), there won't be any more HP midnight book release parties ... makes you wonder what the next hit will be -- if there even will be one. I don't know of any other childrens book (that's geared to adults and teens as well) that has caused as much of a sensation as the HP series has!

I too am hesitant about th erelease of the last book. DS12 and I had so much fun at the last release (he won the look alike contest and got to be the second person to get his book), and there is only one more now.

There also used to be some speculation that Sirius and Remus might have been romantically linked (and read the squabble between them in the shrieking shack in POA and tell me there might not be a little tension there!) but that seemed perhaps a bit advanced for books aimed at that age...Would have made for a good storyline though.

Until the Tonks/Lupin romance was brought up in HBP, I thought this as well.

And it would have been brilliant. The way Lupin and Sirius behaved in OoTP struck me as very much a couple, and I always thought Lupin's werewolfism could be metaphor for homosexuality (the social shunning, discrimination in the workplace, lobbying for civil rights, "parents wouldn't want someone like me teaching their children.")

I also thought it was treated so subtly that children wouldn't catch it at all (my 10 year old certainly didn't) but adults could see it and appreciate it.

But JKR went another way - I never found the Tonks/Lupin romance interesting, or even very plausible, but poor Remus has had such a miserable life that I won't begrudge him any apparent happiness.

I have long suspected July would be the release date - 7-7-07 would have been too good a marketing opportunity to pass up. However, that date would also be the anniversary of the London terrorist bombings, so it might appear unseemly to co-opt such a date.

But July is also Harry's birth month, and a release date on Harry's birthday would be marketable and fitting, too.

It does seem odd to have the book come out the same time as the OoTP movie, though. Is that too much marketing to the same group of fans?

JKR has also said that she knows that whatever she does in book 7, some fans are going to absolutely hate it. I would think Warner Brothers wouldn't want to be a victim of any HP disappointment backlash, you know? If people hated book 7, they might just dismiss the rest of the movie series.

Also, with the last book coming, I want her to take her time and make it the best she can. I want her to fufill her vision for the series. I hate that she's killed two of my very favorite characters, but I can understand why she killed them. I want her to write the books without rushing so they reach their full potential no matter what the outcome(s?) may be.

Wow --I have never thought of nor read of that theory! It's an excellent theory, though!!!! Very interesting!!!!!

I didn't realize that 7/7 was the bombing anniversary. While it's a great marketing tool for HP (those magical 7's), I'd agree that they'd prob. opt out of that release date.

I can understand what you're saying about having HP overload and I agree that it'd be a bit much to have two things come out so close to each other. And, I'd hate it if they didn't finish off the movies -- would seem fruitless, almost. I think many a fan would be disappointed if the movies just ended w/book 5 or 6. Seems like it wouldn't be right to leave us w/a 5 or 6 DVD set when there are 7 books.

Plus, there are some HP fans who are movie fans and haven't read the books. I finally got my mom to listen to Jim Dale's reading of the books(she's just not a big reader, but has a long commute)! I kept telling her that the books were much better than the movies! Plus I always had to fill in the holes that the movies often leave in the plot.

Now, just to be random again, anyone else have Dumbledore's Army on their desk top?? :yay:
DumbledoresArmyDesktop.jpg

They need to make an insane smilie just for me!
(Don't worry, DH will be home from work soon so I "have" to leave the computer and make dinner! Enjoy the reprieve!)

The blonde girl next to Ron -- is that Luna?

My DH loves to listen to the CDs. Jim Dale does such a wonderful job. We all have "caught" something by listening to him, things that we missed in reading. (Since I am hard of hearing, I listen and read along, still kinda fun except I want to read ahead of where he is at a lot)

The blonde girl next to Ron -- is that Luna?

Yes. I think the boy on the far left (by Ginny) is the evil Zacharias Smith.

On a side note, why is Ginny the only girl in pants? I have also worried about Bonnie Wright (the actress who plays Ginny) being able to pull off Ginny-the-sex-kitten of Half-Blood-Prince.

I've seen pictures of her at premieres and other promotional appearances, and I do think she can pull it off, but they need to quit dressing her like a boy for starters.

For example in this picture: fan.com/gallery/gallery/gallery/Promo/005.jpg and this one:
http://www.bonnie-fan.com/gallery/gallery/gallery/Promo/01.jpg

she looks mature enough to be a love-interest.

Yeah, that's Luna :) I think she looks perfect for the part. She has a sort of permanently spaced out, dreamy sort of look that I always pictured Luna having.

And WeirdTigger27, I had Dumbledore's Army as my desktop for about a month straight after that picture was released. But I changed it to a picture of the trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Anyway, VA32h I always love reading your posts because they contain insights that I hadn't thought of before! While I was one of the many, I'm sure, who got a couple vibe off of Sirius and Remus I never really looked at it quite as deeply. I like what you said about Remus' werewolfism being a metaphor for homosexuality. That would make a lot of sense. Obviously, I can see why JKR would not go that route but it would have made for another interesting plot twist. She already has so many underlying metaphors in the books and social issues that occur that can be easily compared to things that go on in our world. I've always felt that it's amazing how similar Voldemort is to Hitler. Persecuting muggle borns even though he is half-muggle, his insatiable need for power, the desire to have a pure race, and the fact that he lets some of his followers believe they are close to him when in reality he trusts no one and has no true, close friends. It's interesting the parallels you can make in the books to real life events.

Alright... since we've just about finished with shipping (didn't take long now, did it?) why don't we move on to.....are you ready for it?.... HORCRUXES! I know there will be an awful lot of discussion and friendly debate. :thumbsup2

I realize I could be cutting off some speculation about the book release, so please feel free to continue with it as well. I'll add fuel to the fire on that front. The Baker and Taylor list, available to schools and libraries, is listing the release date as 07/13/07. In the US, that's the release of the movie, as well. Can someone confirm if all the books have been released in time for Harry's Birthday? I tend to agree that the London Bombing date could be avoided. I don't think anyone would dream of releasing something on 9/11...

The other date I'd considered was 10/31/07 as we know that what happened in Godric's Hollow that day will be pivotal and finally revealed in the book. I think it's safe to assume that this will be the summer (and potentially fall) of Harry Potter.

I am going to edit the topic title each time we move onto a new subject, too.

Have at it!!

They don't always dress her like a boy - she looked nice in GoF movie at the Yule Ball... I wouldn't call it sex-kitten, but nice enough that probably with another year (at the minimum) before HBP movie comes out I'm sure they'll transform her character enough to satisfy us...

The Ginny/Harry romance never bothered me either - I actually quite liked them together and was hurt when Harry broke up with her at the end of HBP... It was understandable to me why he was doing it, but painful none-the-less.

I've noticed as I read tonight that there was a bit of negative attention for the necessary recasting that happened with DD... Just a question - would we all still feel this way if Gambon had been originally cast as DD? I'm only speaking for myself - but I'm not sure that I would feel so strongly about it if I had never known Harris' version of DD.

I agree that Luna's casting appears to have been done well... Of course, I reserve the right to change my opinion after seeing OotP in July!

Speaking of great casting - can I please add that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alan Rickman's Snape... I honestly can't think of another person I love to hate as much as him, plus he brings some great comic effect to such a *wickedly flawed* character! Three cheers to Rickman!

Check the links for the photos in this post. One of them is hilarious! :lmao:

Had a thought- what if they're still downplaying Ginny becuase a good lot of the audience doesn't know it's coming? As in, those who only watch the movies don't know that it's coming yet. Harry is still infatuated with Cho last we left off. Why bring too much attention to her now? I think they will be able to do it. She's a gorgeous girl and with the right make-up and lighting, I'm sure we'll understand what Harry and the rest of them find so sttractive. I've always liked that she was the girl-next-door and could hold her own against all her brothers. I suspect that's what the directors will try to play up, too. ETA: I always pictured her as playing coy more than anything throughout all the other suitors we met, which I don't think Bonnie would have trouble with!

Oh, Rickman IS Snape, absolutely! I will never be able to imagine Snape in any other way again!

Okay, I'm having some trouble remembering what horcruxes have been destroyed. And I don't have my book to reference because I loaned it to my godfather's wife who hadn't read it yet.

I believe it was just the diary and the ring that have been destroyed? Anyone care to refresh my memory? I can't remember if a third horcrux was destroyed or not. Was there a locket?

Anyway, I think the snake Nagini may be one of the horcruxes. I believe it's been said that making a living creature a horcrux can be dangerous but Nagini is the only thing Voldemort has ever felt something close to affection for so it's a definite possibility. Plus, I think Voldemort would be cocky enough to believe that no one will ever get close enough for her to be destroyed.

I keep wondering what the horcrux for Gryffindor could be. It can't be the sword because DD said that he has guarded it safely in his office. Maybe some other personal effect he owned? I can't think what though. And was there something belonging to Hufflepuff that was mentioned? I can't remember if there was or not.

ETA: I'm in total agreement about Alan Rickman as Snape. He's so perfect it's scary! I honestly cannot imagine anyone else playing that part because he just has Snape down to a t. He's such a great actor!

And I think Bonnie Wright has definite potential as a more flirty, all-the-boys-wanna-date-her kind of girl. She's very beautiful and with the right makeup and hair she could look a lot more feminine and sex-kittenish than they've been letting her.

Well thank you! I have also heard theories that werewolfism was a metaphor for depression, or for Aids, both of which would also work.

JKR has said that Dementors are her manifestation of depression, though.

Anyway, the HP books are so rich and layered, that even after the series is finished, I think we could go on discussing them forever.

I definitely agree that Voldemort is a Hitler figure, and it's no coincidence that Dumbledore defeated the "dark wizard Grindelwald" in 1945, either. In fact I briefly wondered if Grindelwald WAS supposed to be Hitler. Wouldn't that be intriguing - a Wizard masquerading as a Muggle to achieve world domination?

When I saw the Death Eaters in the GoF movie, I thought the costumes also suggested KKK - which was interesting in a British movie with a British writer, director, and crew!

But if we have to talk about Horcruxes - I've already said that I think they are what Dumbledore said they were.

The Locket - either Kreacher has it hidden somewhere at 12 Grimmauld Place or Mundungus Fletcher (**who should be played by Bob Hoskins in the movie, IMO) stole it, and Harry needs to get it back from him.

The Hufflepuff Cup - Hepzibah Smith is a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff - Zacharias Smith is in Hufflepuff House. Are the Smiths related? That would be so convenient.

The Snake - Nagini is always with Voldemort, so she would likely be killed shortly before or at the same time as killing Voldemort. Perhaps Ron or Hermione wrestles with the snake while Harry takes care of Voldemort? No idea!

The Mystery Object of Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's: My guess would be something of Ravenclaw's, because we've seen Gryffindor relics before (the sword, the Sorting Hat). Conventional wisdom says that the mystery horcrux will be an object we've seen before, but not one that was already central to a previous story. The Sword of Gryffindor and the Sorting Hat have already been featured. But then again, all of Voldemort's object-horcruxes are supposed to be items that are inherently valuable and are very well hidden. So why would we, the reader, have happened upon them already?

I'm trying to think of what could be valuable to Voldemort, and what places were important to Voldemort, that would be significant hiding places. Godric's Hollow - maybe. If he hid a horcrux there before he went after Harry, thinking GH would be the site of his triumph over the prophecy and not his downfall.

I think we don't have, and aren't supposed to have, enough clues to solve the horcrux mystery on our own.
