MSEP to end Oct. 9 - Parade moves to Disneyland for a "limited time"

I'm fine with it being taken away - but NOT fine with the possibility of NO electrical parade in the Magic Kingdom at all - ever? what kind of (Disney) World do we live in where the Magic Kingdom wouldn't have an electrical parade? It's the only place I know of that ever had one and I always looked forward to it - whether it was Spectromagic or MSEP.

Hopefully we get a new parade - or at leasts CA's Paint the Night!

I agree. I was not overly impressed with MSEP, so I am not upset that it is heading to DLR. I liked Spectromagic and could watch that parade twice a trip. I am upset that Disney is taking one more parade away and is not replacing it with another.

If it is a cost saving measure, I believe it is shortsighted. I bet the management thought that due to limited evenings open to guests during party season, most folks would not notice or if they did, care. They will.

Wait, you were assured how much the parade would be enjoyed in Disneyland? Seriously? Sorry, but who cares if it's enjoyed in another park?? - you are paying to go to WDW, DL nor it's visitors were your concern. Am I the only one who finds that statement crazy? Not that I'm not happy that people will enjoy it elsewhere, but the bottom line and the purpose of the complaint was that it was being taken away with nothing in it's place - right? and Princess Elena - who? exciting, to say the least.

I know! Who writes this stuff??!?!!???!

There is no "next parade". Why are people talking as if Disney has a wonderful, exciting surprise in store for us? People, they surprised us already, by yanking MSEP out of WDW. PTN is the only next gen parade, and it's staying on the West Coast. WDW guests got the shaft, end of story.

Maybe so, but we will see. I tend to believe that even if this was the plan, it will be short lived. Disney has taken parades away from DHS, Epcot, and DAK, but has not taken them from their flagship park. If they make this kind of cut on top of the climbing cuts that have been implemented, even those who have been supportive will look elsewhere for vacations. I now that while I have not liked all of the cost saving measures that have been occurring over the past few years, I have understood them, and respected that a company has that right. Generic WDW napkins instead of restaurant specific napkins, etc may not be as magical, but they still work. To me, this is different. First they begin upcharges for so many of the things guests were used to enjoying as part of the admission ticket, and now they begin removing entertainment that has been a staple in the MK for more years than I can remember. Not good, so hopefully this is a glitch that they did nto see coming, and they fix it. Fast.

I believe they added Celebrate the Magic as a way to phase out the nighttime parades at MK. I also think the parades are probably very expensive to run, well at least compared to the castle light show.

Wishes has the whole street to work with, and the fireworks are visible from more areas of the park. I haven't been to the other parks, but I'm pretty sure they see fewer people on a daily basis. The newer ones were built later -- my guess is they have more room and more egresses. As for DLR, I don't know. But I've also read that spot-saving is a different mentality there than at WDW. But I could be wrong.

You should probably visit one of the other parks before you make comparative statements. DL has far less space to work with, and yet that's exactly where MSEP is heading.

As adamant as you are, that's how sure I am it's not a cost issue. That parade costs nearly nothing to run, not when compared to the park's overall operating budget. I could be wrong about the safety/congestion issue, but I'm as sure as you are that cost had little to nothing to do with this decision.

I actually think MK will get another parade. But I also think cost was a huge consideration in how they are rolling this out.

I don't think for a moment that parades cost nothing to run. Not even close. I think labor costs are a huge consideration in everything Disney does, including running parades (crowd control staff as well as actual parade staff). If they cost nothing to run, they why is PTN not running except on "select nights in the holiday season" at DL?

I didn't say anything about it being a cost issue. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. However, since you seem to have the info, what DOES the parade cost to run and what is the park's overall operating budget?

I'm 99.9% sure it's NOT safety issues. They have had this set up for decades, safety is not it.
It is more of a cost issue, and not what it costs to run this particular parade but the cost of the whole Shanghai going over budget and AK mess.
AK AvatarLand was supposed to open, at least, a year ago, it's a looooong construction project, a chunk of AK closed to business, no money coming in, plenty going out
Then there's the whole Rivers of Light disaster. Money going out on production, on infrastructure, on CM training, on promotional things....then the whole thing collapsed, they opened up AK until 11pm in hopes that the other things would bring revenue. It didn't. Many hated the JB show so it was popular for about a month and many have reported very little lines for all attraction, plus the whole Safari at night time fiasco.
Again, a lot of money went out, very little went in
Cutting the parade is a huge money saver, sure we will probably get PtN next year, but until then no night parade at the most popular park in WDW during the most popular time of year.

What's gonna happen to everyone who has a Tony's package booked? Think it will be replaced with something else of just made to be a regular reservation? I don't really want to do lunch there without the added benefit.

I also have reservations at Tony's for lunch with the added reserved seating for the parade that night. I don't know if they will contact me or what. My DD, SIL and 3 year old GS are headed down on 10/15. This will be his first trip and a special family trip since my DH passed away in Feb. I am very disappointed about the parade cancellation. It was one of my favorite experiences and I was so looking forward to seeing the expression on his face when the first float appeared out of the darkness.

I'm sorry about the loss of your husband. I know what you mean how something can be so special and how it can sting when it closes without sufficient warning. I hope you all have a great trip together.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. :grouphug:

I hope you have an amazing trip and find some other ways to make some very special memories.

No one answered my earlier question, so I contacted Disney to ask. Apparently there is no set parade schedule, and no explanation for why it shows on some dates and not others. It is showing the night before we have tickets. So many people recommended it, it truly is disappointing that we will never see it. After chatting with a cast member I understand the only way would be to purchase another full day of admissions.

Does anyone know why it isn't showing on Tuesday, August 30th? We were really hoping to get to see it for the first time.

The website says it is not showing on the following Halloween party dates, but does not explain why there aren't times on the other dates:

September 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 29, 30, 2016
October 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31, 2016

The answer is there isn't an answer is what I got out of asking Disney.

They just cut the parade from those dates :( But that was before they announced MSEP leaving so they might add them again, you never know, they seem to be making decisions on the fly

Ok, I need some help. I'm finding it super hard to put together our trip plan this time. It will be our 3rd trip WDW over Christmas break (Dec 17-24), and I'm not sure where to begin. There are no reliable extended park hours posted and I can't seem to find much in the way of nighttime entertainment. During our last two visits, we would stay late and close down the parks. We went to 10:00 F!, 10:00 MSEP, stayed in some of the parks until after 11:00.

Now no MSEP, no later F! scheduled, and park closings at 9:30? Am I missing something? Am I just too early in my planning?

you are not early planning, Disney is late releasing schedules. It's been like this all year, they have been changing park hours, entertainment schedules up to a month before the date. Sometimes adding or taking away offerings up to days before.

So how do all of you trip plan with limited info? If it was just my family, I wouldn't worry so much. But we are going with another family, so we are trying to coordinate. Any tips?

You may want to begin a new Thread to pose your planning questions especially because MSEP won't be available during your trip. You'll receive more replies in a new thread and it won't veer this thread away from the MSEP topic. Thanks! :)
