MP3 player advice needed

I'm dependent on my 2 year old RCA LYRA. FYI: MusichMatch software automatically converts everything to MP3s.

Yes, I'm ready for an upgrade and it will be either a new RCA or a creative Zen. It all depends on how many coins are in the jar when I cash it in @ coinstar for the Amazon Gift Certificate. :music:

Where exactly do u live? i went to a private elementry school, and never even had a problem with my off brand stuff. even though public junor high and high school, i never saw kids get so upset as to cry in the bathroom!

Near Philadelphia... and also times have changed. Kids are so horrificly cruel nowadays it isn't even funny.

What happened a few years ago even with the cool factor has changed so significantly.... kids can not be seen with out the ipod, the razr phone, the heelys, etc.....

Even a few years ago, the kids weren't keeping up with the Jones', but now it is extremely apparent.

Middle and high school girls need to have the LV/Dooney/Coach bags and knockoffs just won't do.. these girls can spy a knockoff a mile away and will tell the students to thier faces that the purse is a FAKE! (seen it!)

I draw the line... I do no cell phones or heelys. The ipod was bought off of Ebay for over $100 less.

Movies like Mean Girls were very true to life...

I just have to make a comment about this. LOL. DH saw this (he's 23), and can't belive heeleys are cool again (he just can't keep up with the trends). He said he had a pair when he was like, 17, and they weren't in style for very long. I think hes rummaging in the closet for his old pair! Wow, he'll be cool again. :woohoo:

Anyone have any experience with the Samsung model? I saw it on sale yesterday for 89.99 at Target. I believe it is a 1G and fm tuner. My kids are 8 and 5. So, I don't need pictures, video, etc. They will probably use the fm tuner more than anything.

Also, from what I'm reading itunes only work for Ipods? I've got alot to learn. I've never down loaded any music. :teeth:

Yes, music downloaded via Itunes will only work with ipods. I think this is changing though.

ilounge and ipodlounge.com are the same website.

I had an I-River, I wasn't too happy with it. I bought a 1GB Ipod Nano a couple of weeks ago, love it. It was $149 at Best Buy.

Not if Apple can help it, French rulings aside.

Musicmatch and Napster don't require an ipod to download.
In fact, these sites aren't designed to work with an iPod at all. They sell protected WMA files that cannot be converted easily to mp3s or AACs to be used on an iPod.

It's kind of like a war going on: once you pick a side, it will be hard to switch from an iPod to an iRiver -- or vice versa -- and keep all the music you've downloaded from music stores. Of course, if you're dealing solely with music ripped from your own CDs into mp3 format, this won't be that big a deal. Just something to keep in mind before committing.

My mom just got me a 30g iPod video for my birthday. That makes me sound like a teenager! I wish! Seriously, my mom has the same one, and DH has an ipod mini, so they thought I should stick with Apple for all of us to be compatible.

I really love it. itunes is very easy to use, even for my mom.

I'm not sure what we'll do when the kids are old enough for that kind of thing. We don't live in a wealthy area.

I have music downloaded from other sites that work on my ipod. I agree that the music you buy from itunes wont play on other players but I dont think its the same the other way around.

I think that the OP needs to ask thier own children which Mp3 player they want. If they say Ipod, they mean Ipod. If they say they don't care (because of money or worried about looking as greedy, etc) ask outright "Do you want an Ipod?"

Then they will tell you.

Not all other music stores sell songs that won't play on an iPod, but the two that were mentioned (Napster and MusicMatch) do. I'm sure there are plenty of places out there that work with widely-usable mp3 files.

Get the ipod then. One great thing about them is all the different accessories. I have the Bose Sound Dock and the Ipod Hi-Fi, among other trinkets and what not. :thumbsup2

Wow. Now I don't feel so stupid about this stuff! A Question: Can I put MP3S that I have downloaded from Limewire on my MP3 player?

I've done that in the past with my Ipod. Mind you some of these were old ones so they went easily.

I found with Limewire, KazAA, EDonkey and some of the other Ptp (peer to peer) websites, viruses are usally embedded in the songs. I had to buy a whole new hardrive because of a virus embedded in an Edonkey song.

I use www.allofmp3.com now for music. songs are usually only 10 cents each versus Itunes 99 cents. Its a European site, so you get some great artists that aren't on the US scene either. I've had no problems using that website everything is compatible and plays well.

ok i have a really no idea about these t hings so i have a question.

My Dh bought me a camcorder, camera, mp3 all in on. Now if i ever figure out how to get music on the MP3 part ( :rotfl: ) how much of the memory will it take? Will it take away most of the memory for Photos or videos? I am totally clueless about the whole thing. ( i only wanted a mini camcorder to take to WDW instead of the humongus thing - thats broke anyway-)

And i think you are supposed to pay for tunes you download.... how does that work?

yup a real greenhorn.

um please PM if you can answer these questions. I can't ever seem to find my posts. lol Thanks!

we leave in 2 weeks! well 1 1/2 really
