It took into account the way things have changed. More kids than you think still run and play outside or participate in gym, cheering, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, etc.
There are more opportunities today for kids to participate in athletics than there were 30 years ago.
That is untrue. There are more opportunities to play organized sports. I was born in 1959 and all of the above were available to us, it just wasn't organized. We would play sandlot baseball for hours a day. Not the 1 hour a week that is now played.
If more kids are active now than in the past - how come the kids are so heavy. My son is 10. He is 54 inches and weighs 62 pounds. On the small side. Most of his friends weigh between 100 and 110 pounds and are only 2 - 3 inches taller. And they play organized sports. My son is always outside. I wish he would watch TV. He also has ADHD and sugar has no effect on the symptons. They would be there with or without sugar in his diet.
