Me: 45, third Wonder cruise
DD: 26, first Wonder cruise
It was past midnight by the time we got to sleep the night before. DD likes to sleep late. But since we are on her first cruise, she wants to see and do as much as she can. I told her we would be pulling into Nassau fairly early and the Wonder would turn around and back into port. She really wanted to see this so I left a wakeup call for 6:30 am. I also left the room service tag on the door for milk (DD) and coffee (me) to arrive between 7- 7:30 am.
I got up and dressed after our wake up call, I really sleep well on cruises, and felt great. DD however, was still sleepy. I was not suprised, but got her out of bed with one word "Shopping".
Room service came a few minutes after 7 and I had a cup of coffee while DD got ready. I could see land on the horizon. With my small binoculars, I could make out buildings. Looking behind us, I could see the Carnival ship that we had passed sometime in the night. She left port ahead of us the day before.
As soon as DD was ready to go, we left our room and headed up the aft staircase to deck 9, loaded with camera and binoculars. It was still too early for BBB to serve breakfast, so we walked around to the bow of the ship, enjoying the sunrise, the sun was just beginning to break the horizon. That alone was worth getting up for
We headed back to BBB to get a quick bite to eat as we are fast approaching Nassau. DD enjoys watching the ship arrive and turn around, and we discover the ships horn really IS loud if you are right beside that forward funnel
They don't warn you for nuthin' folks!
We enjoy comparing the Wonder to the other ships ( really it was more like 'dissin the other ships) as they were nowhere close to matching the styling and class of the Wonder.
As we were heading back to our statroom, we meet Weekly in the hall and I tell him I am getting revenge on DD for keeping me up late the night before. This becomes a running joke between us and Weekly jokingly nags DD about keeping her poor Mother up late. We put away our things and shower and get ready to go shopping. After one false move or two getting off the ship, we are off and walking off the pier. There is a small band playing on the walkway and they pull us over to take a photo of us playing the drums After a few welcome to Nassau's from the group, we head for Galleria Harborside. Pretty stuff but since I'm not into jewelry there's nothing I care to buy. We head up and down the streets off of Bay Street, checking out the shops that look interesting. We have fun just window shopping. It is already rather warm, and DD wants to see the Straw Market. DD does not like crowds and tight spaces and will always start to hyperventilate. I knew she would not do well at the Straw Market!
Sure enough, all it took was walking down one aisle and having 12 people say "you want to see, you want to buy pretty lady?" and she was ready to go! We walked over to Senior Frogs... it was before they started serving lunch, but we enjoyed the gift shop and started walking back down Woodes Rodgers Walk. We pick up a few color change tshirts for me, a shot glass for DD, and a nice polo shirt and rum cake for DH.
We board the ship, drop our buys in our stateroom. Up to BBB for lunch, we are hungry by this time and share each other's food so we can try a little of everything. DD gets a slice of Pumpkin cheesecake that is delicious. We are both dragging a little from the late night and early morning so we decide to go enjoy the quiet cove pool for a while, and to go to Atlantis later in the day. We find a couple of lounge chairs that have towels on them, but after being assured the folks that had been there had left, we took up our spots in the sun. Let me assure you the sun felt good that day. We get into the pool a few times to cool off. Back on the lounger DD puts on her headphones and listens to her Jimmy Buffet cd and snoozes. We enjoy our first Konk Koolers of the cruise, and not long after along come the cruise staff. It's 3pm and time for pool games
There goes peace and quiet..
They first play a version of musical chairs, the players are sent off to get things from around the pool area, and each time, a chair from each side of the pool is removed. Last one back on each side is out. The last round, the two remaining players have to get two people to jump into the pool with them and swim to the front of the pool. Guy on our side comes running over, looks straight at me with a look that said "HELP!" I think, why not, jump in, both guys are declared winners, and now I discover I am automatically in the Belly Flop contest!!!!
UH UN not me! The first to go is a girl who jumps right in... of course she gets a one from the crowd. No way am I gonna flop my flab into the pool so I just cannonball my way in
Oh course I get a one from the crowd too. I'm just glad to be out! I get a Pin for my effort. After I dry in the sun for awhile, DD and I head to the room to shower and change clothes. We get our ID's and cash and walk off the ship, catch a taxi and off we go to Atlantis. We walk around the shops, the outside area that is free and inside around the resturant area you can see for free. There is a HUGE manta ray that we watch and DD loves all the fish. I think she filmed 30 minutes of the fish swimming back and forth
We head to the casino and find a few 25 cent machines we want to play. I put a twenty in and it takes me awhile to lose it. I give DD a twenty to play and wander around for another machine. Ten dollars down this one so I cash out and head over to find DD has just won $95 and is smart enough to cash out. She splits her winnings with me and we leave, stopping long enough to have me take her photo in the Big Atlantis Throne. She fans out her winnings and has a big smile on her face
We go up to the taxi stand in front of the resort, and the next in line is a LIMO! YES! This will be my first limo ride, short but a ride, none the less! And for $10! And this is a nice new limo, I feel special. We enjoy our short lived glory back to port and arrive as the sun is setting. We get a few good photos of the Wonder and head in to the ship.
I will continue this LONG post tomorrow.... this is way too much to make ya'll suffer through
