Most expensive and painful use of my points

We are currently at the Disneyland Hotel after a moment of insanity four weeks ago led me to turn banked points into points to use at the DL hotel. We have annual passes here from a trip this past August. (We stayed at VGC) The whole Christmas atmosphere got me and we needed out of town. Needless to say, it took....don't fall when you read this part.....205 pts for 5 silly nights. To top all that off, my kiddo got extremely sick and our flights got messed up. So instead of flying home today, we cannot leave til Sunday so I had to pay cash for two nights. Won't even say how much that just added. Oh, our annual passes are blocked for tomorrow.
Lesson learned. Let the moment of insanity pass. Let it pass.

Ouch. Praying your child is OK and everything else goes better for you.

Sorry for your bad luck and hope everyone is well for Christmas. You have discovered the downside of having APs, "let's get a quick trip in, we have the passes". That has cost us a bunch over the years.

Sometimes it is hard to ignore the magical calling of WDW! I have tried twice this fall to get to Disney in FL...once in October for F & W but Hurricane Matthew messed that up and once this past weekend where a major Lake Effect Snowstorm desended on the airport just in time to prevent the plane we needed to take to MCO from landing, and it had to be diverted to JFK!!!

Hope your son is better and once you get back home, the magic of the holidays will be remembered and the rest...yeah...not so much!!!

Oh my, I hope your son improves quickly. It sounds like tomorrow will be day to shop and check out downtown Disney if your son is well enough. I cannot think of anything to do other than the pool, and the temperature doesn't make that sound inviting, that wouldn't cost you $$$. Best Wishes to you all. Merry Christmas!

Oh no! Our weather hasn't been the best for your stay either! Hopefully once you're back home, you'll only remember the good parts and the bad parts will be forgotten!

Just saw in your signature that you lost your DH in 2008. I lost mine in Oct of 2008. Love that you're making memories with your kids! One day you guys will laugh about the circumstances of this wacky, spur of the moment trip!

Disney has helped us heal in ways I cannot even begin to explain. I am so sorry for your loss. He was with us tonight on our last night as we got to see the fireworks from our "non-view" room! :) We always seems to have some crazy thing happen on a trip and usually look back and laugh.
It has definitely been some cooler weather but then we are going home to a foot of snow:rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you! We got to enjoy afternoon tea at the Steakhouse as both my girls love to have tea and then a little last minute Christmas shopping. Merry Christmas to you as well!

Disney makes me do crazy things! We used to go every year on the anniversary of my my husbands death and then the girls gymnastics season started coinciding during that time. A few years ago I was just done and in one day's time, I booked a room at SSR and packed. The next day we were in Florida. Yep....crazy things. ;) Got to love our DVC. A precious gift from my husband and their daddy.

I'm sorry his happened, I hope things end up OK. For others reading, I'm a big proponent of risk prevention. Every time one overpays or limits their options, they tend to create risk. Whether it's DCL, an exchange, a big trip with family/friends or a trip later in the UY among other situations including financing. One can't prevent all risk but you can control much of it.

I'm sorry your son is sick; it's always so tough when the kids are sick. I here you about the points. We are dying to go back to DL, but when I see the points outlay, no way. When we go back, we are just going to have to book the good neighbor's hotels. I had got an incredible deal for my son for just over $100 a night.

Similar story here, in some ways better; in others worse...

At the end of my August trip I was completely out of points til I could start borrowing my 2018 points on 2/1/17...just could not stand the thought of not being able to go (on points) for 5 whole months (can we say addiction?)...so I bought more points and quickly booked a "miracle trip" (tricky availability issues for both villas (we wanted 2 studios) and DS and his fiancee) for 1/9-1/16/17. Recall these points (current and borrowed) expire 1/31/17--AND I had to buy 9 one time use points to do the whole week.

Fast forward to 12/10/16...I fell and broke my arm!

I am still planning to go--4 weeks into broken arm healing it "should" work...it'll be a "different" trip for sure, but that is ok. I will be at WDW with my DS and his fiancee. We can go to restaurants and enjoy the parks atmosphere. So once I figure out the logistics of airport and flight, it shld be fine. DS and his fiancee are coming from a different city so it will just be the travel that will be a challenge.

But talk about a crazy decision to add on points for a trip that is now probably one I would cancel were it any further out from the points' expiration! Oh well...it'll be ok...just saying my prayers that winter weather issues wait til I get back 1/16!

This sort of thing may very well happen again. Time to buy more points! ;) JK--hope your kiddo is as good as new.:)

We are still here!!! Winter storm Decima has all but changed our zip code to CA. I am so ready for my own bed. I could have bought some points for what I have spent the last three nights on cash. Well, memories for sure.
