My impression of the Republican "Leadership""

"Waaaaahhhh!!! You guys are playing by the same rules we did when you said you wouldn't!!! You big bullies!!!"

Granted, I expect my party to be better than that...but I'm hardly about to shed a tear for the poor Republicans after the stuff they tried to pull in the last 6 years.

What was that we were told over and over? Something like, "We won, you lost...deal with it?"

Like I said...I'd like to think we were. But this is kind of like getting a big promotion where suddenly your old boss - the guy that used to lord his position over his underlings and constantly abuse his power - suddenly works for you. No matter how high-minded you are...there's gonna be a temptation there to rub his nose in it, just a little.

Again, just for the record...I am NOT in favor of supressing minority rights in congress. Too much power in the hands of one party leads to problems, every time and completely regardless of the "good intentions" of the party in question. Just because 50.000001% of the populace agrees with your position, that's no reason to completely ignore the other 49.999999%.

But like I said...I ain't'a gonna shed a tear for the poor wittle wepublicans at the moment.

I don't think it's a matter of "being above it". It's to what degree do you take it. That's the issue. If anyone believes the leadership of either party is squeaky clean and welcoming of the minority party, they are delusional. I personally believe, however, that the Republicans brought it to new heights. Let's hope the Dems can tone it down a notch. I'll be happy with that.

They used their years in power to line their pockets, rubberstamp everything Bush wanted, never questioned anything, never performed their oversight duties, never brought anything to the floor that wasn't going to be accepted, and completely shut down any debate.

The Congressional Republicans had their chance and they blew it. The Congressional Republicans can sit down, shut up, and get the hell out of the way of what the people voted for last November. And it wasn't for the Republican agenda.

Last summer you posted something on one of the many political threads that were flying around at the time and it was about this very issue. You said something to the affect (forgive me if I butcher it) that Republicans in power at the time forget that the people they kicked in the head on the way up, are the same ones they're going to meet on the way down. In retrospect, no truer words were spoken.

I can't shed too many tears for what has happened, even though I don't agree with it. What has happened is a good lesson for all who enter into politics and are in the majority at the current or present time. Hell, it's good lesson for all us that can be used in real life.

Just a wild guess, but perhaps that statement was said because GWB and Co. wanted to actually ammend the Constitution?
