After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.

The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

If true, and I'm sure it will catch on with the other news sources soon, I really don't think there is a whole lot the minority party can do about it. The Dems are exercising their power in the way they see fit.

1 - Until it's confirmed, I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

2 - After the last 6 years, you don't get to complain about losing minority rights. The right did everything they could to completely exclude the left (and center, for that matter) from governing. To quote a friend of mine...boo-frickin'-hoo.

3 - No, I don't think this should happen, though I won't shed a tear for the formerly thuggish minority. You did bring this on yourselves by saying that the minority didn't matter. Reap what ye sew.

Exactly! Which is why the MSM won't be reporting on it, if they can get away with it. But it did happen, regardless of the media blackout. Besides Drudge, several GOP legislators have the facts on their websites.

When it was the Republican majority, it was front page headlines. Remember the "Nuclear Option" and the thousands of news stories that generated?

So how do you explain the absence of any reporting on the story by any of the MSM outlets?

a. It didn't happen. Drudge, as well as the Republicans are lying about the facts.

b. It did happen. But who cares. It's only newsworthy when the Republicans threaten to change longstanding Congressional procedures for political purposes. (The Nuclear Option)


And for the record, don't count me among the outraged, that the Dems would try to do this. Politics ain't beanbags and it's not for the faint of heart, or for those who think it's all about high-minded fairness.

My complaint is with the news media's obviously disparate treatment.
