Marita, I think the trick to cooking like your mom or grandma is to have them there with you when you learn to make things so they can clue you in firsthand on their special touches.

We were given my hubby's grandma's Christmas sugar cookie recipe after she passed away and I was never able to come close to how she made them. But then, I never made them with her. I think the trick was in the type of margarine or butter she used.

Pumba, have you ever made homemade Kahlua? I don't drink coffee, but I like Kahlua.

Moo, I made them when mom was watching! !! I think my taste buds may be off. Plus, she kept changing the recipes on me.........

Awwwww, Nabbie! How sweet of your hubby!!! :flower3:

Pumba, that milkshake sounds decadent! Especially while camping. But I doubt I could fall sleep after drinking one. Hightest indeed :rotfl2:

Moo did you always have that 30 pounds ribbon?

Mooo hoooty to you!!!! Great job!!!!!

MOOO HOOTY to MOO!!

If you have nothing interesting to to see on TV tonight, try America's got talent on NBC.

I'm watching that too Marita...

That is one big family that just performed. The kids are cute.

This rainy cool weather made me sleepy!!
Went and got food then had myself a nap. I hate shopping in the rain. Especially this kind of rain that is off and on and stops raining as soon as you have your groceries in the car....:headache:

Twinkie-- are you having a better day today. They have such cute maternity clothes out now. I am just glad I wasn't pregnant in the summer. Because in the winter I didn't even wear sweaters because I was hot all the time.

Lil Blue -- still waiting to see another pic of T.J. Babies grow so fast.

Nope, just hit it today :woohoo: I was close about a month ago, but my daughter came home for that week and I gained about five pounds. Finally got that off and hit 30. Now I have to keep going in the right direction . . .

Thanks, Nab and Marita!

Too funny, Lil Blue.

OK, now who's up for a goog chat?

Hey all! I'm back from camp. I got there at 9 and didn't leave until almost 7:30! It was so much fun. I'm going back Thursday night for prom night and I'm going to try to be a counseler next year for the whole week. I'm flithy and tired! Ready for a bath and bed, but I wanted to check in first.

twinks- back when I could bake and stuff (pre surgery), I added almond extract to everything too! My friend has a really good trifle recipe that uses amaretto creamer and cool whip to make white chocolate pudding. mmmm. layer it with pound cake and fruit for yummy deliciousness!

I'm going to try it one of these days with sugar free pudding, cool whip free (I've made it with both of these) and instead of the creamer, skim milk with almond extract (haven't tried this yet).
And angel food cake instead of the pound cake.

lil blue - Oh! Of course it makes perfect sense now! What hole? ;)

Poly - I had no idea some Catholic churches dictate how much you tithe! :scared1: I know the local synagogue here (allegedly - I don't have first hand knowledge) requires their members to turn in tax forms to prove their income.
Extra scary!
If it's not given freely and from your heart, what's the point?
I love the story of the widow in the bible who gave all she had - even though it was a small amount compared to other people, it meant more because of her faith and how she gave it.

Aww! That's so sweet about the flowers, Nab!

Pumba - I think I want to visit and try out your homemade stuff! ;)

Great job Moo!!!!

Hey Celery,

Glad you had so much fun at camp!
Our parish had different tuition rates for our school. In order to be considered a parishoner and get the lower rate, you had to commit to a set amount each week. And you had to have been a parish member for two years prior to enrollment to be a parishoner.
Once the girls graduated from that school,we could contribute whatever amount we wanted. With the large number of lawsuits being filed against our diocese, we've lowered our offering, choosing instead to support a Catholic priest who operates a shelter for abused woman and children as well as a shelter for the homeless.

Is there a party tonight and I wasn't invited? Where did everyone go?

Hellooooooooo!

Can you believe DH had the nerve to use my PC for work purposes! I have been going nuts but at least was able to watch Y&R and a show that I watch on MTV (yes, I still watch a few shows on MTV, I can't give them up)! I'm also skimming through America's Got Talent.

Cupcake Update
I made the cupcakes today! I ended up making Paula Deen's Red Velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting....YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY! I have never made red velvet cupcakes only a traditional cake but I am very happy! Had to walk an extra 20 minutes tonight thanks to those darn cupcakes! Thanks for the tips Twink! I love amaretto and almond flavoring, it makes bakes good taste soooooooooo much better!

Nab - What a great DH you have! I love surprises!

Celery - Camp sounds fun! Hope you are getting some rest! That makes for a long day!

Congratulations Moo!!!! :woohoo: That's awesome!!!

Marita - Do you like the talent show? I didn't realize it was 2 hours. I really liked the family that performed...DD was dancing all around to them! I also liked the dog performance but they didn't make it through :sad2:

Pumba - That milkshake does sound awesome! I can never pass up a good milkshake!

Lil Blue - We need a real pic!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to everyone out there!

Well there is a new coming on NBC next week, something about dating women in 20's vs 40's, called "Does age matter?" That might be interesting.

Hi Betsy!

Boo to hubby using your PC for work! How rude!

The talent show is ok, it serves for the evening.

I got a shipment of clothes I ordered online today. Have to wash them to get wrinkles out. GOt a pair of sandals too that have a piece of stretch in the back sling which rubs at the heels at the seams. Anyone have any good ideas for that? I am thinking getting some of those heel pad things and cutting them down, but the straps are kind of skinny.

Hi Marita!

The dating show sounds interesting. I'll give it a shot, why not!

I'm just seeing the big fight between Sharon Osborne and Piers. It's at least making the show a litte more entertaining. I feel bad for the little girl though.

New clothes! I love getting packages in the mail! I would try your idea for the sandles. Mine are all open back so I have not had that issue. The only thing is if it's too thin, the heel pad may come off pretty quickly.
