Moms to be Part 4

This is the way I felt with circumcision when I was pg DS. DH has one and I don't, so I let him make the decision. I checked AAP info, and they didn't make a recommendation either way, so I left it up to DH. We did not end up circumcizing DS, because DH is not circumcized and he wanted them to be the same. DH's brother had a son 3 weeks before us and their son's boy part never fully came out (looked like a turtle), so it was painful for him. I don't think they had the "new" way of doing it, though. One of my friends that used our same pediatrician in IL had it done the "new" way on both of her sons and said they did great and didn't seem to be in any pain after it was done.

I remember when that thread was started - there was a previous "new mom" thread that I was a member of from when DS was born, and we all felt old when you started that thread so we changed our name to "toddler moms"

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only who knows of this "new" way to circumcise. I feel much better that someone else know it exists :rotfl:

Sorry about the thread, that is funny. I'm not big on jumping in when I don't know people and a few of us felt that way so I made a new one.

YAYYYY!!! :woohoo: Are you going to find out the gender when you have your U/S?

Of course!!!

I just talked to my Doctor. He said there is nothing for me to be concerned with; everything sounds normal. He said to call back if I have any spotting or anything but otherwise go on about my business. He does want me to come into his office Tuesday to check me out before DH and I leave for our cruise

That's good news - I would take the appt as a good sign since he didn't want to see you right away but is willing to calm your nerves before the trip so you can enjoy yourself more! :goodvibes

It's funny, b/c I actually found out from a nurse too, and since we didn't do it I don't know the details, but the nurse and my friend seemed to think highly of the "new" way!

No worries on the thread, I totally understand. It was just funny when we all realized that we weren't really "new" moms anymore since we had toddlers, but we still felt like we didn't know what we were doing!

I feel as though I have become a cord blood banking pro over the past few days.. My husband and I have finally decided on the company we are using and will be processing the 'paperwork' tomorrow. I'm not sure what is okay to post and what isn't, but the two largest companies cost pretty much the same and will basically match the other's prices. Right now the cost of banking is significantly less than $2,000.00 and is about $125 a year for storage. You don't pay for anything until after delivery and both companies offer you the opportunity to do payment plans between 6 and 12 months, one actually doesn't charge any finance fees.....
Obviously I am pretty passionate about cord blood banking.

If you are able and/or willing to share, I'd love to know the ones that are less than $2000. New England Cord Blood Bank, which is the one that was recommended by my doc prior to the donation program in our state, has an initial enrollment fee of $250, processing and banking fee of $1600 and annual storage fee of $125 making the initial investment $1,975. Every year thereafter the fee is $125 or you can pre-pay the 20 yr storage fee and save $580. We could do this financially, but a lot of people cannot or it would be a stretch for them. Please know that I truly respect your decision to bank and I know sometimes it's tough to get your message across the way you want to in writing so I hope you don't take offense to my PSA about donation. I just feel that the expense of banking is too great for many people and donation would serve the same purpose long-term if everyone catches on and it becomes readily available in all areas......

Wow! So my "surprise" baby shower at work was today (DH told me) and I knew you ladies would be interested in one of my gifts! I got the "Get Carried Away" Vera Bradley tote in Sittin' in a Tree, and a lipstick holder (I think there was a promotion where you got it free) from my boss! She may drive me crazy but she picks good gifts!!

No offense taken.... Both ViaCord and CBR are doing cord blood banking at $1,775.00. CBR will allow you to pay this in either full, 6 or 12 month payments with no intrest. ViaCord will allow you to do payments in the same way, but charge you slightly more per month if you choose to do payments. Both companies charge $125 a year for storage, but ViaCord will give you 25 years of storage for $2,300.00, which can be paid over 6 months....

I understand that this is a big expense, but I also think that it one of the best things that you can do for your child and worth every penny. I would do without a lot to provide this.. That's my PSA and I hope no offense is taken.

As for donation, I agree, it is a great thing. Sadly as people are learning, there are lots of hospitals across the country that don't participate, and finding a match for your child can be a long process.

Thanks so much for the info :goodvibes OT, but one thing that gets me is the lack of information provided by docs in our area. We live in an area where there is a top notch teaching hospital dedicated entirely to woman and babies and still most docs do not talk about banking or donation. I think that's awful! I hope the same is not true across the country. Not saying they should influence you one way or another but information would be great....

Why is it that toddlers can be perfectly fine one minute and have an 102 fever the next??? DD and I went to the zoo this morning, came home and gave her lunch and a nap and went outside to play. When we came in she felt warm so I checked her temp and it was 102 :scared1: She was a little stuffy but didn't seem "off" at all. Called the doc because I wanted to deal with whatever sickness she had soon so it would not spread to me. He thinks it's viral and nothing to really worry about but her fever is still up....UGH!

It is so nice to have a thread where people can post opinions and not be attacked....I so wish that I could be a perfect mom, but the more that I talk with other moms I just realize that we all are doing the best that we can, whether we would all make the same decisions or not....

It was a beautiful day in Cleveland today...83 and sunny! So great for the kids to play outside with friends and end the day with ice cream!!!

No problem! :goodvibes

That stinks that you aren't getting as much information as you would like from your doctor... That would drive me CRAZY.

Sorry about your daughter being sick.. Hope she gets better soon.

Thanks :) The funny thing is she seems fine, except for some congestion and a high fever. I freak with fevers because she had a febrile seizure last year when her temp hit 105 :scared1:

I agree!! The reality is that we all make decisions based on what is best for us and everyone's situation is different so who are we to judge when someone makes a different choice?? I have a few acquaintances who I feel like I have to act a certain way around because they may misjudge. Unfortunately, I tend not to spend much time with them because I don't have the energy to not be myself and who feels like that anyway.

Good morning :goodvibes

TGIF. It felt like this week wasn't going to end.

Lots of drama going on with DH's work and union stuff... so I'm just kinda... freaked out. We're SOL if DH loses his job. ::sigh::

On a really nice note, this woman who I've met a few times that used to work with DH asked about me since she knew I was preggo. She asked about my baby shower, DH said there isn't going to be one since our families el-sucko. She actually said she would throw me one, which made me cry! Now if this actually happens, I'll be shocked, but still the fact that someone cared enough to offer was really cool.

My last OB never talked about it, and this one hasn't either yet. I agree that the lack of information is disappointing and scary even.

I think toddlers are so busy, they may not notice when they are not feeling when until it gets really bad. DS had a high fever like that for 2 days last month, but it never amounted to anything else, no runny nose, cough nothing. It just ran it's course, he slept a lot, then he was fine. I hope it's the same for your DD!

I agree, much safer to post on things here where people RESPECT each other and their opinions instead of just attacking anyone that disagrees with them. :goodvibes

I hope everything calms down with your DH's job.

How sweet that someone offered to throw you a shower!

Those type of friends usually aren't worth our time and energy. There are always people like that, and I find it's best to just avoid them as much as possible.

Has anyone ever been kicked/punched in the ribs by their little one? Hard enough to make it hurt to breathe or move side to side? I'm debating whether or not that was a kick I felt at 5am that's now causing this pain or if I just moved to fast rolling over and pulled a muscle. My OB isn't in the office today so I don't want to call and try to talk to another one and I hope one of you ladies had any idea as to what this pain might be and what I should do about it....:confused3

Oh yeah. DD used to do a number on my ribs. I don't remember it continuing to hurt though, so you might have pulled a muscle. Just take it easy for the rest of the day if you can.

I've been kicked (or pressed on) repeatedly in the same place enough times that I have a sore spot for a while... but I'm not sure if I've ever been kicked hard enough ONE TIME for the pain to linger... Where does it hurt? Can you feel a baby part still in the location?

Ugh. Feel better.

Thanks. Its pretty painful..I'm trying not to move much.

Oh my goodness, I am so wiped out!!

I went to that Community Baby Shower with my best friend today. There was sooo much going on!! They did 3 games and if you won you got extra tickets for the raffle. The had cake, water, tea, chips galore... it was insane.
There was like 25 vendors (hospitals, childcare places, etc.) that each gave you a ticket for the door prizes if you went around and met with them all.

I have so much stuff it's insane!! Toothbrushes (for Lucas AND me), full size mouthwashes and toothpastes, samples of tons of baby stuff, a baby blanket, pacifiers, medicine dispensers, bandaids, tote bags and more pamphlets than I'll probably ever be able to read.

I won a raffle (that I don't remember putting in tickets for) for a baby bedtime story book and a 6 pack of bottles. My BFF won a ton of stuff! She got a baby blanket, bottle of Johnsons Shampoo & lotion, hooded towel w/ washcloth, 6 pack of bottles and a Safety First "Complete Bath Care" set.

I am so exhausted! I had to lug Lucas from vendor to vendor. I had to stop at the grocery store on the way home and get ground beef to make dinner and I am just wiped. Lucas was already asleep so I had to carry him, sleeping, through the store and the checkout :rotfl:

Emalee, I didn't have any pain like that. That is really weird. Hope it goes away soon.

That sounds fun, I wish we had something like that here. I <3 freebies!!

Things have calmed down a bit with DH's work. The union meeting for Monday was cancelled for now.. phew. They actually fired a driver today, but that's been a long time coming, he's really lazy. So that's a little sigh of relief, I don't want DH to lose his job... the poor man just wants to feel appreciated and be slightly less underpaid.

I'm on the hunt for training pants that fit like panties for DD. I guess we're just not at the regular panties stage right now. Some days she's perfect, but others... are a little soggy. Haha.

DD is still sick. Her fever fluctuates from 99-103. UGH. She didn't sleep very well last night so neither did we. She practically lost her voice, which is just so sad. I know it's just a virus but I hate seeing her sick :( I have plans to have dinner with a few friends tonight and I have been debating backing out. I feel guilty going when she's sick but then I know my DH is more than capable of caring for her for the few hours I am gone. One of the girls I am supposed to meet tonight just miscarried her twins at 15 weeks and I feel like I want to go to make it a fun night for her.
