Moms to Be Part 3

I had my first internal exam yesterday and I was worried but it didn't end up being bad at all. I was pretty worried for nothing! Of course, I am not progressing at all but I didn't really expect to be. I haven't felt anything and I think I will probably go late which is fine with me! I am trying to extend my maternity leave until Christmas. :rotfl2:

Glad to hear the internal wasn't bad. . . I dunno when they start at the place I go to. . . If it is next week (next Friday) at my 36 week appointment then I am SURE there will be nothing happening down there yet, lol!! I know I get the Beta Strep test next week, did you get that done too?? Was it very invasive or just a swab?? Hopefully you get to have that extended maternity leave :)

Thanks Adi! That made me feel so much better to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'm gonna head to the mall in an hour and pick one up!

Yea, it got to the point where I didn't want to be moving around too much and even hurt to tyrn too much in bed. . . I talked to the midwife about it and she said it was normal, so I decided to try out the belt - just trying it on in the store made me sure it is what I wanted, it was a great help while I was using it. Even though my baby's head is down and I am almost 35 weeks, I find I don't need it now like I did then :) Hope it brings you the relief you need (OH, and do try it on in the store before you buy it if they'll let you. They let me at my motherhood and I am glad because I tried on a couple sizes til I liked one and was able to know it is what I truly wanted).

Congrats on getting names picked out! :thumbsup2 You are way ahead of us. We do have a first name for a boy, but no middle name, and if it's a girl, well, we have ZERO agreement there for any name. Sebastian is our boy name and for a girl I really want to name her Tierney but my husband hates it. He doesn't really have any alternatives though. My MIL loves the name Tierney so I do have some support there to push my husband in that direction, but it will be a hard battle.
My wife and I agreed on a girl's name pretty early, but never came to an agreement on a boy's name. I wasn't too stressed about it because there was only a 50% chance that we would need one. It turns out that my no-stress attitude paid off because we found out pretty early on that our baby was a girl.

That being said, I would caution you against pushing your husband on a name that he dislikes. That seems like a pretty pointless reason for an argument. A better idea is to simply find a name that you both like.

Yes, I did get the Beta Strep test and it was definitely just a swab, no biggie at all! Good luck with your next appointment!

I am hoping for that maternity leave too!

Just got back from my 30 week appointment and everything is still looking great. I go back friday though for a fetal echo, just as a caution. I had a cousin who's son was born with a heart defect and unfortunately did not make it, so my doctors just want to do the echo to be safe.

I can't believe I'm going every two weeks now...where does the time go?

Baby shower is this sunday and I'm starting to get really excited. I admit to peaking at my registries over the past few weeks to see what has been bought, but I'm trying really hard NOT to this week!

Hope the rest of you mommies and babies are doing well. It looks like we may have a few newborns here soon within the next few weeks!

Glad everything's looking good! We're going for our fetal echo on Friday (my MIL lost a baby to a heart defect so we're also going just to be safe). Hope we both get good results!!

I just did 10 days at Disney wearing one and it helped so much.I got the one that has 3 parts to it-a tummy piece,a back piece and then a top strap for when you are further along. My back couldn't take it if I didn't wear it.With my dd I had a small one that went under the belly and that didn't help me that much but this one is bigger and the back piece kind on looks like a back belt you would wear at work.I got it at Motherhood Maternity-I think it was around 35 dollars.I even wear it if I am sitting around the house because it makes me feel better.

I just got back from Motherhood. I ended up buying the smaller one that goes under the belly. I noticed a difference just walking around the store wearing it so I'm hoping it helps. We've got 5 days in Disney coming up so I wanna make sure I'm comfortable. So far (knock on wood!) my backs been doing okay. I hope that keeps up! Otherwise I might have to go back and check out the bigger one.

That's the one I got and it helped soooo much - It is like a huge piece of elastic with velcro - but boy do I appreciate that elastic and velcro!

My only issue now is trying to adjust it so it doesn't make my baby bump look like a pot belly....

Oooh, I am going to need to look into a baby belt. I plan on teaching my dance classes (nothing major, for our rec department) up until the baby is born, if I can. Baby just doesn't fall at a good time for my dance classes, since our recital is only 4 weeks after my due date! Yikes!

Add me to the list of mommies getting a fetal echo soon. We had our ultrasound today and even though everything looked fine structurally with the baby's heart, the tech saw bilateral echogenic foci, which essentially presented as 2 little white dots on the heart. Since the heart looks perfect structurally, she thinks it's nothing, and apparently in 99% of babies with it, it is nothing, but she gave us the option to get the fetal echo so we're going to get one. I have to wait till 20 weeks to get that one, so the heart is slightly larger and easier to see, so another 2 weeks I guess.

Other than that, she said everything looked great, measuring slightly large (but smaller than the last 2, so that's good) and it's a girl! My daughter was so excited, as I expected she would be if that were the outcome. As much as I was hoping it would be a girl, I'm sorta sad that I'll never have another son, strange as that may seem. Particularly since I just put my son in time out for biting me. ;)

It does mean, however, that we get to continue the name battle. As for forcing him into a name he doesn't like, it won't be a fight, as my husband would let me use any name I want, whether he likes it or not, well, unless it were something completely and totally horrible. He'll just complain about it for awhile but be over it when the baby is born, if not before then. By the time you're at the 3rd kid, the names you both agree on are slim! We actually don't have a girl name we both agree on, and other than my choice, there's nothing else out on the floor, at least nothing my husband has mentioned yet anyway. But we'll see. My daughter, MIL, SIL, and mom are on board with the name so he's been coming around. My MIL even sent him a newspaper story about a little girl named Tierney to get him into the idea.

Well I'm now on maternity leave per my midwife's instructions. Even though my BP is normal and no protein in the urine, the swelling in my feet and legs have her concerned. I got her to agree to let me work out the week (desk job that allows me to walk, put my feet up, relax) and that's it. Depressing - because now I feel like I'm cutting into "baby time" if that makes sense.
Other than that, I'm still only 1 cm and 60%. Next appointment - next Wednesday. Let's hope this baby starts doing it's thing this week!!!

First - I'm hoping all goes well at the Echo - hopefully the tech is right and it is NOTHING!!

Second - CONGRATS on that baby girl!! I sort of was a little sad when they didn't say boy - even though everyone was pretty much pulling for girl - except DH and I - we just were happy to be expecting and wanted a healthy baby boy or girl. . . . but once we KNEW it was one and not the other - all my ideas for the other had to go away so there was a little bit of loss, though I was thrilled to be having my little girl - if that makes any sense at all. I have had them check at every u/s to be sure mine is still a girl, b/c so many people tell me they get it wrong. . . so at a total of 5 ultrasounds (although at the first one they looked three times, and at the last two they looked twice).

Adi, I think that's exactly it. I was initially hoping for a girl, but a few weeks into this pregnancy realized I truly didn't care either way. I did want my daughter to have a sister, but my mom has all brothers and is very close with them, so I knew it wouldn't matter too much. And I sort of thought it was a boy, so even though I was thrilled to hear it was a girl, I had those feelings of loss knowing this is the last baby (well, 99% sure on that anyway!) and Henry will be my only little boy. I like that a lot though since he'll forever be the middle child, so being the only boy makes him stand out a bit.

And thank you, I am hoping it proves to be nothing too, and likely it will be, but there's still that fear until you get the all clear. I called to make my appt but the woman had already gone home for the day so I will hopefully hear back tomorrow. Funny cause my next OB appt is 9/29, simply due to poor math skills on the part of the receptionist (I said I needed to come back in a month, somehow the 29th was 4 weeks after the 8th?), but now I am glad cause I should have the fetal echo done by then and will get to discuss the results with my OB sooner than later. I mean, I am assuming it will all be fine, but just in case I'm glad the appt isn't too far from now.

And more about me, since I seem full of that today ;) , my husband decided to taunt my mom and tell her we know what the baby is and she is going insane not knowing till next weekend! I don't know why he thought that would be amusing, but he got quite the thrill out of it. His family all does 'surprise' baby, so even if we tell them we know, they can't hound us about it!

I forgot to update the list with my new color, so here it is. And I'm hoping that no word from Maggie today means there will be a new baby boy on here soon!

Oooh, a girl!! I have my ultrasound a week from today, and I cannot wait to find out!!! DH is kind of sad that he isn't going to be able to be here for it, but I will scan pictures and email to him right away. My DSD is going to go with me. She is pretty excited!! Then I will just have to be able to keep my big mouth shut until I talk to DH that night. I don't want anyone else to know before he knows. I might have to duct tape my mouth shut!!

A couple very quick thoughts:

  1. If my wife was set on a name that I didn't like, I suppose that I would come around to accept it, but it would make me a bit sad that she wasn't willing to keep looking for one that we could both agree on.
  2. I would hope that my vote on the name would count higher than my daughter, mother, sister, or mother in law, all of whom really don't have a vote.
  3. In my mind, there are only two voters on this; the mother and father. They should each have an equal vote. Therefore, if one disagrees with a name, no majority is attained and the search should continue.

JustThat- Congrats on the girl! How exciting. I think the name Tierney is a beautiful name! Hope everything goes well with your fetal echo as well...hopefully it is just nothing.

Justhat - With DS, DH was DEAD SET on the name (Wyatt). I didn't like the name at all. Everytime I would come up with a name, he would go "How about Wyatt?" After 32 hours of labor (including almost 4 hours of pushing!), Wyatt was the greatest name in the world! I just looked at him, and I knew that was who he was.

That was kind of how my husband was with our son. He was totally fine with the name Henry, but our son's middle name is Joseph, which is not only my FIL's name, but my husband's as well as his grandfather. He liked the name okay, but after being Joseph III his whole life, he didn't want to keep the name going, even as a middle name. But once he came out my husband decided Joseph was a perfect fit!

I picked it mostly cause I wanted a "J" middle name (my father was Henry James), but James is BIL's middle name so I figured I'd leave that for him, and since Henry was my dad, I figured the middle name should be from FIL, and coincidentally, Joseph fit my quest for a "J".

And I can't wait to find out what you guys are having too! Do you have any feelngs either way? I never do, but I know some women seem to have some sort of intuition. I wouldn't want anyone else to know before my husband either, so as hard as waiting will be, I think it's totally justifiable. Because I want to be able to tell our family when we see them (since we've never gotten to do that), I didn't tell anyone we had our ultrasound yesterday cause I knew I'd be hounded. Of course I am being hounded by my mom since my husband decided to tell her that we know, but she'll live for the week. She is convinced it's a girl anyway so it won't be too much of a surprise for her, but I'm still making her wait.

ETA: I think Wyatt is a great name! That was on my list had this one been another boy.
