Moms to Be Part 3

Hello! My name is Cara and I am expecting my first baby on Feb 2, 2010. I will be 32 next month and feeling like I am going to be the oldest first time mom at the playground! I am at 21 weeks and have only gained like 7 lbs, but this past week I have been eating like crazy, and not the most healthy of options (pizza, cookies, fast food). Yuck!

Well now that I am done venting, I did have a question that lead me to search for a pregnancy thread. We are heading to Disney in two weeks and I am wondering which rides y'all think are a no no for me? So far my off limits list includes: all roller coasters, Tower of Terror, Mission Space, Test Track, Dinosaur, Star Tours, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party. Am I forgetting anything? Are Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids or Kilimanjaro Safaris safe?

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

<----- One Proud New Momma Here!!

Jacob Isaac was born 9/9/09 at 5:09pm. 6lbs 12.9oz. & 19 1/4inches long (lots of 9's!). He is absolutely the most gorgeous thing I have ever laid eyes on (and im not just saying that!).

I went into the dr for my apt on Tues (39wk apt) and she asked if I wanted to be induced (drs apparently like to know when they are delivering babies these days and inductions are the easiest way). I told her I wanted to know how big the baby was first-- bc if we was getting too big i would go along with the induction. She left the room to schedule my u/s... and came back with two papers. One was saying my u/s was at 1:30 that day, and the other said I had a room down in labor and delivery that night at 5pm to start cervidil and begin an induction. She said I could cancel if I wanted-- but she went ahead and made the room available in case I wanted to go ahead after the u/s. At that point DH and I were in shock that we could actually be having our BEAUTIFUL baby boy so soon. We went to the u/s... they estimated his weight at 7.1 (and thats plus or minus like 1lb1oz.). We decided since we already had the room, and im such a worrier... we might as well go ahead with it so I didnt have much time to dwell on the fact that I would soon be delivering.

We got to the hospital at 5pm- they put in the cervidil. I didnt get much sleep that night and neither did DH. Maybe 2 hours or so. The next morning I was still at 1cm and they broke my water at 8:17am and started pitocin. My labor went very fast and was almost PAINLESS. No joke-- i didnt feel but a handful of contractions and those were in the very very beginning (I took some stadol (sp?), and at the very very end (before they pumped be back up with a bolster epidural). My epidural was divine! I went from 6cms to 9.5 in 1 hour or so.... and started pushing before the dr could even get there. I pushed about 15-20minutes and he was here. It was perfect.

I did get sick after pregnancy though. I think it was because of all the pain meds (my epidural was strong and great-- along with the stadol)... and I didnt have anything on my stomach from the night before- by choice (I knew i dont do well with pain meds so i was trying to avoid sickness). It was only liquid- and im thankful I didnt eat the night before.

Jake is absolutely the most gorgeous little boy ever! Dh and I are so in love! Will most photos soon!

Hi Cara! I went to DL when I was about as far along as you are. I lived on Toy Story Mania! :rotfl: I'd tell you to pass on any roller coasters - including Splash Mountain. We did look at quite a few rides for pregnancy warnings and I think this was one of them. It's not the movement that's a concern but the drop I believe. I'd pass on Kilamanjari Safari too because of the bouncing of the trucks - but check for the warning. I'm trying to remember some other rides I went on - but this was DL and not WDW so I didn't have as many to pick from like you do. :teeth: Soarin I did, Toy Story Mania, lots of kids rides - we did do the teacups but we just didn't spin like we normally do.
I DID go through every line que with the people I was with though for every ride...I couldn't pass up seeing the inside of the Haunted Mansion or Indiana Jones ride - I just took the chicken exit out - so definately take advantage of those. Then your not waiting outside in the hot sun for 30 minutes while everyone else is inside in AC.

Maggie, congrats! What a great labor story! Welcome beautiful baby Jake!

So, now I'm even more terrified that at 36 weeks my baby is over 8lbs! Yikes!

I had my 36 today and Beta Strep today, and it was just a swab. We did my first internal today as well, that was a bit more uncomfortable!

We had our 36 week ultrasound and appointment today, and Connor is measuring at 8lbs 3oz already! So, we are seeing a specialist next week to get a second opinion on his size, and if he concurs we are going to have to consider options for delivery, which has me pretty aprehensive. But, I'm 5'2 and small hipped, so the likelyhood of being able to safely push out a baby who, if we went to 40 weeks, would likely be around 10lbs is not happening! So, it looks like Connor will be early, they are pretty sure I will deliver this month instead of next! Scary!!!!

Good to know, about the test and internal. Did you have any progress?? Your Connor is a bog boy already!! I know those are usually plus or minus a lb, but still! Hopefully all goes well when you go to see the specialist - and at least this way you will go in knowing your options and not have a lat minute surprise.

I went to WDW at 19 weeks. I did NOT ride Splash nor Kali, and don't recommend it. I rode Kilimanjaro Safari, BUT what I read before I went was to ask to ride the handicapped ride vehicle - it is wayyy less bumpy, so if you ride I would recommend doing that. I suggest having some idea of what you would like to do while others in your party ride the stuff you can't or shouldn't ride, shop, sit and eat. . .or whatever - just have some ideas so you don't get too board waiting. PLUS make sure they have fast passes for that stuff - it gets very lonely quickly - at least it did for me a couple times. Enjoy being there and enjoy all the great goodies WDW has to offer - I was recently done with morning sickness, so I sure did eat. Thankfully I have not gained a pound yet. . . I think that week I did gain some, but since I lost at first, that is why I am only at my starting weight.

That is AWESOME - both the fairly easy birth AND that he was born 9.9.9, how cool is that!!! I cannot wait to see pictures of your gorgeous guy!! So glad he is here, and that you are both doing well!

Adi, she said I was slightly soft but hadn't dialated, and he hadn't dropped yet. It is just crazy that it will be sooner rather than later!

casumners, we went in July and I think I was around 25 weeks at the time. I'm not a big "rider" anyway, but avoided Dinosaur, Kilimanjaro Safari, the Teacups, Splash Mountain, and then the ones you would automatically assume like roller coasters, ToT, etc. I think I did a google search, and there is an article on allears that addresses pregnancy and rides, it had some great information!

Maggie, congratulations on "your" baby Jake :goodvibes

I peeked at the few pictures you had on your myspace and he is absolutely adorable! I'm glad to hear your delivery was quick and (mostly) painless. That's the best way to go!

Have lots of fun being a new mommy! :cloud9:

Maggie, congrats on baby Jacob! Sounds like you had a really nice birth experience. Can't wait to see some photos of your little guy!

Cara, congrats on expecting your first! I'm due the same time as you (started off 2/10, but EDD as of my latest ultrasound is 2/2 just like you!) and we were in WDW 2 weeks ago. I did ride Kali and the Teacups, but stayed away from everything else. Oh, and we also did the Safari, but I asked for the 1st row. Much less bumpy up there, something I learned when I was pregnant with my 1st when I was seated in the last row. Yikes that was rough and I felt terrible that I went on the ride.

Linzybrooke - My son was born at 36 weeks and was 8 lbs 4 oz. I had an ultrasound the week before he was born and they estimated his weight to be 6 lbs 10 oz (obviously +/- 1 lb) and my dr scheduled an induction for me for 38 weeks. I'm also small so the concern was not so much his weight (my daughter was born 15 days early, also 8 lbs 4 oz) but that his head was measuring very large and if he got much bigger they didn't know if he'd fit or if I'd end up needing a c-section. Clearly either my son or my body knew that he wasn't gonna fit if he grew any larger as he came out on his own 2 weeks before the induction. Had he gone to term the dr thinks he would have been about 11 lbs. As it was, at 1 month old he was over 10 lbs and he lost a bunch of weight in the beginning, so I can only imagine his size had he stayed in. Good luck with whatever your dr decides to do regarding inductions or whatever. It was sort of nerve wracking for me so I can imagine how you feel.

Kristen - Glad to hear the fetal echo went well for you. What a relief that must be! And cool on the 3D images on your little boy. We got some 3D shots of our baby at the regular ultrasound this week too cause she momentarily faced the right way for a good look. She was opening her mouth and stuff so it was really neat to see.

I just got back from a birthday party with my daughter and my husband is now napping so I have kid duty. They're both watching Little Bear for the moment, but my son just asked for a sandwich. Apparently my husband forgot to feed him while I was gone. Gotta love leaving them with daddy, that always pans out well. ;)

Okay, so I mentioned we had our baby names last week. But I never said what they were!! They are Elliott (Eli) William, or Elizabeth (Ella) Jane. William is my grandfather's middle name. ELizabeth is my mom's middle name, and Jane is DH's mom's middle name. Now I just can't wait until Thursday to find out which name is the winner!

Well I'm still around...still enjoying the yoga ball, putting my feet up other times. I think DH is nesting more than me - he's a massive pack rat and has been cleaning out his "man room" (aka basement) for the past two days. :rotfl:

BabyTigger- Those are very cute names!! I have a cousin whose name is Ella Jane it flows so nicely.

Just got back from the baby shower and I'm completely overwhelmed with all the love and support from our families. We got hardly any duplicates! I'm going to attempt to go through everything today and tomorrow and set up his room and then I will post pictures!

Did I count correctly? Am I really 7th on the list!? Wow November 18th is quickly approaching!

LOL about your DH!

How are you feeling??

Up late reading the Hunger Games so I'm assuming lack of sleep will punish me later (either with delivery or just being tired all day tomorrow...) :teeth:
Other than that, feeling fine still. Trying to keep the swelling down in my feet so today was a relaxing day. Between that and the yoga ball things have been going good.

I've got you beat! I'm 34 and expecting my first. So you are not the oldest :goodvibes and congrats to you!

Congratulations Maggie!!!! 9 is my lucky number, how cool that Jacob was born 9.9.09!!!! Can't wait to see pictures :cheer2:

And now for a little vent..... If I could sleep through the night that would be great. Or even fall asleep. Last night was pretty bad. My legs were so restless and twitchy and my heartbeat has been all irregular. Sigh. I had to get up out of bed and go downstairs to watch tv. I never do that! I did that for about 2 hours and then tried to lay down. I tried my back, my side. Finally I fell asleep kind of propped up. DH came down and got me this morning when he had to get up for work. He told me to lay in bed for the day but I can't do that. I feel like too much of a bum and feel like there are too many things to do around the house. :laundy: I'm not even that far along. I can only imagine that things will get worse. Sigh...

Hulagirl - I have gotten up at least once a night with this pregnancy and am constantly uncomfortable overnight too. I don't have too much trouble falling asleep, but I attribute that to the fact that I generally go to bed pretty late and am exhausted from my kids during the day. I wish I could say it gets better, but when I had my first I was like this the entire pregnancy. My 2nd pregnancy, otoh, was nearly ideal in that I never woke up overnight (well, other than my then 2yo waking me up), slept very well all night, and felt pretty good. I think it's just luck of the draw.

Baby Tigger - I love your names! Elizabeth is one of the names I'm considering for a middle name. I think it's really pretty.

And on that note, it's looking like Tierney will be the first name! I told my husband I'd be buying a baby name book so we could look through it and find some options and he said "OMG, please, no, anything but the book. You can name her Tierney, it's fine with me." He may sound like he was kidding, and to some degree he was, but he also truly has no desire to search through a baby book and compile a list of names for a 2nd time, then hope some of them overlap with mine, then narrow it down from there. 1st time around we did that and still took months to agree on Madison's middle name so I think he'd do about anything to avoid that process again. Works for me! ;)

I had a meeting at the kids' school today about being a room parent/field trip coordinator in my daughter's class this year and found out that the father of a little girl in her class passed away on Saturday. I lost my dad when I was 17yo and it was hard so I can't imagine being 6yo or nearly 4yo and really not understanding why that had to happen. He was sick a fairly long time so the kids didn't get to see him too often in recent months which much make it even worse on all of them. Things like that I will never truly understand.

Now, I need to get ready to pick up my son, who was not quite as eager to get to school today as he was Friday morning. Hopefully he had a good day.
