Oops! Hey aren't you supposed to be working anyways! ;)

We both should have been working, anyway, Alexander!

Okay, tomorrow I will be switching my reservation (my first trip home) from OKW to SSR. I am a little concerned and don't want to experience anything like this on my first trip home. Hopefully one of those waitlists will come through.

Are these common occurences at OKW? Not quite what you would expect for $92 a point.

Yikes!!

I'm planning an OKW GV for October and hope to impress MIL and FIL. I want to hear something positive about the GV's there.

Thank you for writing the letter and complaining!!

Airfilters won't eliminate mold if there is any dampness. It takes only one spore to slip in through the door and light on a damp surface. No matter how good the filter is hundreds of thousands will avoid it and a few of those will settle down. If moisture is present a colony will form and spread. They have to eliminate the moisture problem. Condensation on pipes with drippage is frequently a culprit -- if the cold water pipes aren't properly insulated.

I'm not switching resorts. I love OKW too much.

I stayed at OKW from 1/28 - 2/3 in a studio. Our room seemed clean until we walked into the bathroom. Although we had no problems with mold it was very evident that the bathroom was not cleaned. Being the anal person that I am I would have cleaned the bathroom myself anyway so I just went to it, but very disappointed in the mousekeeping at OKW. I probably will choose another resort for our next stay.

DID you read the whole thread????? The answer is NO, this is not a common occurance.

No, I agree, this is not a common occurrence at OKW. If it was, I think we would have noticed something in the past 6 stays there. We have stayed in everything from studios through 2 bedrooms (have not stayed in a GV yet). Our rooms have always been in great condition. A couple times we were missing something, like a kitchen utensil or a blanket, but that's it.

To the OP, sorry about your experience. Please post the pics and follow-up with us when/if you receive a response from OKW.

Because it's not a common occurance, and because we really want to check out OKW as a place for our whole family to stay, perhaps on our next "4 generation trip," I'm not changing our June ressie, and we're trying out a 1 bedroom OKW for the 2 of us.

The bad press for each resort comes and goes. The experience that is being described is terrible, and I remember that pictures of mold in the shower of BWV were put here just before our GG, which was going to be at the BWV. Thankfully none of the 5 villas that we had had any problems at all.

I am sorry that the OP had this bad experience. Management needs to address this situation and with more than one of the phone calls by people who are trained to listen, oh so condescendingly! (Those phone calls make me madder than the original problem.)

I am very sorry for the OP's bad experience. For the benefit of those considering changing their reservations, I'll add my recent experience. We spent 4 nights in a 1 BR at OKW starting on Jan 24. We were in building 18. Our villa was very clean. I didn't see any mold and I didn't smell any smoke (and I would have noticed that within seconds of opening the door!) The bathroom areas were clean and everything in the kitchen was clean. We were very pleased with the condition of the villa and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Lisa, we too had a very clean villa in January, and it was in one of the oldest buildings at OKW. WE did find a smoke smell when we arrived, but they took care of it while we were out at Epcot doing our NYE reveling!

We've never had problems at OKW, but then we've never stayed in a GV. I always assumed they kept those extremely clean given the point value and demand. When I bring a friend/relative and am trying to show off a little I'm always more picky and demanding about the accomodations.

I wouldn't consider forsaking OKW based on a couple isolated negative reports. I just hope our wait list comes thru for October.

We just came back from OKW at had 2 different rooms (to save weekend pts). Both rooms were in great condition and clean. DH loves OKW so much it is hard to get him to go anywhere else.

To the original OP, sorry you had such a bad experience. I know what a hassel it can be to switch rooms. During our weekend stay our frist room at POFQ was smokey. Even though we didn't unpack or anything it was a hassel to go to the front desk, wait in line and get our new keys, go back to pick up the kids and luggage and go to a new room. Especially when you're tired and have had a long day. It passes though (if you let it) and it's still better than being at home!

I have been a member at OKW since 95, our first 8 years going down there we never had a problem with the rooms. The last two years we had 5 different rooms-4 of the 5 had problems. This past visit one unit had a large roach in the dish washer and the other had the heat running non-stop so the temp hit 92 degrees when we walked in there. In Ocotber we had no problems with our unit, last winter there were a number of problems with all 3 units we were in. The a compressor would not stop running in one, another had a stripped faucet, etc etc. I have gotten to the point where I consider myself lucky when we do not have some problem that has to be fixed.

What you say is true, I'm sure Pa@okw95, but I've had cleanliness & maintenance issues (including bugs) at several different wdw resorts, including WL, Cont (Tower concierge had roaches ! We were on the 14th floor), POR, BWV....these readily come to mind. So I don't feel this is just an OKW problem.

I too wasn't thrilled by our 2 bedroom unit at OKW from this past Jan 5 to Jan 12. Room 1712, major mold in MB shower stall and even more mold on the shower curtain in 2nd bdrm. I called housekeeping, they came and put some blue foam in the MB shower, left it all over the walls and shower floor and a dirty towel too. I only complained about the 2nd room shower curtain, but due to a language barrier with the housekeeping staff on the other end of the phone, who knows what was said. Also the dust, I mean DUST under the beds and behind the nightstands - I dropped some valuable Marathon paperwork there, and the kids were hiding under the beds was beyond any excuse. I did let housekeeping know these issues as well as a few more that were beyond excuse so hoping that the next guest has a nice clean unit. I'm sure its hard to keep everything perfect all the time but a little elbow grease goes a long, long way.

All these problems should be sent to WDW Guest Communications [WDW.Guest.Communications@disneyworld.com]. We've got to make it more trouble to ignore us than to fix the problems. I still love Disney and I know Florida is damp, but maintenance and mousekeeping need to improve.

We just returned from 10 days at OKW -- from 1/23 to 2/2 -- a 1BR in building 21 and couldn't have been happier. Clean, spacious, peaceful, a thoroughly enjoyable stay. In fact, I wish I could talk DH into agreeing to switch our September VWL ressies over to OKW.
