Don't know if this will make it in before the thread is locked but here goes:

Unfortunately this has all the hallmarks of a classic message board scam.

"Friend" in desperate circumstances (involving children, no less) who needs specific items for assistance

No family members at all to help this friend - if not for the poster and the board members who donate, she will have nothing

All practical advice (resources, freecycle, gov't programs) "won't work" for one reason or another

Dramatic situation escalates quickly, over a matter of days, to ratchet up the drama

When questioned about any aspect of the story, poster claims hurt and dismay, and vanishes.

The fact that this story is going on on two different threads is a red flag to me also....I guess OP is hoping that if she's found out on one thread, the generous ppl on the other thread won't figure it out??

I just posted on the other thread and then found this one and stated the same thing that Magickndm said:

yes, I got your PM that said the same thing you posted here.

I really don't care whether or not you really do have a friend pregnant with triplets. According to one of your earlier posts she is having 2 girls and 1 boys. I never accused you of making anything up, I just asked the obvious question of why you could just not give her the two brand new outfits you have for sale on EBAY. Honestly, shipping isn't cheap and most Goodwill stores are packed full of newborn clothes. In addition, most areas have special resources for women pregnant with multiples.

Fact is, I'm not Bill Gates and I don't have an unlimited charitable supply to give. I'm fairly picky about where I put my resources. If she is in a position to be picky enough to reject perfectly good clothes based on taste, she doesn't need me bad enough.

Ok, I will bite.

Wasn't there a thread a while back about a law saying you can't divorce a pregnant women (Texas I believe). Anyone know the story for Georgia?

I 2nd free cycle and cheap cycle. Garage sales are great this time of year. I just got rid of a lot baby things, very cheap and donated much more.

Spend a Saturday afternoon looking, you will be amazed at what you can find.

I am going on the assumption this request is true.

I don't think this thread should be locked. There haven't been any name-calling or personal attacks, only questions which I feel people have a right to ask, especially if you are requesting them to donate items. Also if this is a scam, then I feel the posters here also have a right to know about it to prevent future attempts.

Great post!

Good points and I hope things that will be considered when it's decided whether or not to lock the thread! :thumbsup2

I agree this shouldn't be deleted. There have been several threads lately that have been deleted because the OP was deceitful (or so it seemed) and they asked for it to be. I'm not saying this poster is lying, but the thread should stay open so others can make up their own minds.

Oh the cruel, cruel irony! If she had left the original thread title up "friend needs baby clothes" or whatever it was, many people, like myself, would have completely ignored it, since I have no baby clothes to offer. But the second someone posts "Mods, please delete this!".....I am THERE, baby! I've just got to see what the controversy is. So, in effect, by her wanting this thread to just disappear, she's drawing an even greater number of readers.

I agree, the ONLY reason I clicked on this thread was because it said "Mods please delete". I think I would have typed in something like, "Does anyone collect rocks?" or "Never mind, duplicate post" so that people would ignore it. :teeth:

PeterPanette, Very true! I'm sure a lot of people have read the thread with the new title.

I did read the OP with the other title and was suspicious when she was asking for Disney clothes. When my babies were little, I was happy to dress them in any cute clothes and they most certainly didn't have to be Disney and I certainly wondered why someone in this bind had to have Disney clothes. Didn't make any sense to me!

Maybe somebody brought this up already - I skimmed through some posts quickly. I'm not saying one thing about whether the OP has good intentions or not except this -

Why is it at ALL important that they be Disney themed clothes? Are regular clothes without characters on them not enough? I don't get that? :confused3

ETA: Tigger&Belle we must have been on the same wavelength as you basically said the same thing I did! :rotfl:

I agree - sounds fishy to me. What man kicks out his wife AND CHILDREN and what woman would actually think she has to leave and take her kids with her just because her husband says so???

And since she has older children - what about all of their baby gear?

They don't sell as well on EBay. ;)

There are a ton of charitable organizations that put desperate people and donors in touch with each other. the one I donate to...well, the person or family in need meets with a social worker and describes their needs. the social worker then contacts the agency and asks for the things the family needs. a donor chooses to help this specific family. the donor is told the ages and genders of the family members, but not their names, what items are needed, and which stores the recipient shops at (e.g., Target or Walmart), so that the donor can supply the needed items and/or gift cards to get such items. the donor gives the items to the agency, which gives the items to the recipient family.

I think this is a better way to do good than to allow myself to fall victim to an internet scam.

Bingo!

And, FTR, the OP had listed her hometown either here or on eBay....the name stuck with me. I won't repeat the name since she has clearly taken steps to change her location (again, I don't remmeber if I saw it here or on eBay but I just saw it today...before she asked this to be removed)

She stated on this thread and the other one on the Family board that the Freecycle idea was a good one, but the closest one was over an hour away.

Um, the town you said you live in not only has a FC group, it has a rather large one with close to 2000 members.

The sad sad thing is......if in fact the OP was lying in her orignal post....that maybe it's HER who needs the baby things b/c SHE is pregnant with triplets and this "friend" doesn't exist...

or WHATEVER the case may be....

It will be very very difficult to post anything on the DIS about babies. Let's say it's her that's prego with triplets (or even just one) ....no WAY she can come on here and share the news that she's given birth.

If that's the case, then that's one of the bad things about lying....you must continue to lie in order to cover your first lies.

It's like talking with my BIL. He is a habitual liar. And when you call him on it, there is always another lie right there to cover for the fact that the first thing was a lie.

It's more work to keep coming up with lies than to tell the truth in the first place (and possibly accept the consequences.)

Basically what I've learned from my BIL's situation is to never believe a word he says.....he's proven to be untrustworthy.

For the OP's sake, I hope this isn't what has happened.....b/c that would be sad to lose the trust of the DIS community.

Again, not saying the OP IS lying. Just a commentary on lying in general.

Yep! I did start reading this the day it was posted, but then didn't keep following it. I had forgotten all about it until I read the new title.

I agree with tiggersmom2 they don't sell as well. The OP has also deleted all references to her ebay account, hmmm. (Yes, I'm nosey.)

I don't know if this will make any difference to anyone here but.....I offered some slightly loved baby items on the free exchange thread and Tigger113 didn't hesitate to ask if she could have them for her friend. Not new and not Disney. I'm sending them to her.
