MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

Oh, we'll be there!! New costume this time, but I'll be watching for the dancing skeleton t's!

We will be there Oct 2nd.
It's 2 adults and 1 child. My son will be dressed as a "dead" pirate. Mom and I will be wearing black shirts with a skeleton man and dog on it. They glow in the dark (yay Walmart LOL)..All 3 of us will have our faces painted from Pirate LEague the white face.

9/25 MNSSHP tips and comments:

Let your freak flag fly!: Honestly, every time I've taken a Myers-Briggs personality test, I come out "introvert" -- and in real life that doesn't surprise me. But put me in a costume and let me be someone else and that little light of mine shines. I understand why a lot of actors are introverts.

They were playing great music at a dance party in Tomorrowland, so much so we had to seat dance on the TTA -- prompting the woman in the car behind us to tell her husband, "I want to be in *that* car!"

This is the time to profess your love for Brer Bear during the parade (or if you see him on the street in Frontierland -- which we did). I have an unexplainable crush on Captain Barbossa, so much so I wore a monkey last year to get his attention. It worked. ;)

If you want to dance to the "Boo to You!" music, go for it. If you want to talk to strangers, now is the time to do it. If you want to eat candy until you're ill, well ... yeah ... This party makes you 8 years old again. Leading to ..

Chocolate Melts: I have a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup that turned into a Reese's Peanut Butter Disk. Sorted my chocolate out last night and stuck it in the freezer.

We found plenty of chocolate, though some stations carried *none*. I am not much of a candy eater, but there's something about the hunt -- it's like going shopping when you don't really need anything.

As a side note ... the candy bag gets extremely heavy towards the end of the night. If you want more than the lunch-sized bags they pass out, you can get more bags -- or carry your own bigger one.

Put Yourself in the Moment: Take time to listen to the piped in music. Look at the specialty-carved pumpkins on Main Street USA, enjoy the mist that wafts through the park. Marvel at the fireworks (our favorite spot is back behind Dumbo), sing along with the songs .... enjoy the parade (I'm not a parade-type person, but I love this one). Sit down as much as you need to, get in the A/C and go "ahhhh" (candy stop in the Diamond Horseshoe Revue was the most ahhhhh-inducing spot along the way) and encourage your inner child to slip that 9-5 responsible body that's grown around it.

Party on, indeed. Thanks for listening!

LOVED THIS! Carl is my new hero (after my hubby ) -- I just bought DH a Carl t-shirt at a local Disney store.

Does anyone know if Disney also has the younger Carl with Ellie at the parks?

As for us, when we go to MNSSHP: we're wearing custom made t-shirts, complete with dancing skeletons, that announce our celebrating our not-so-scary 32 wedding anniversary.

We gave each other a trip to WDW for our 30th anniversary (to honor our honeymoon there in 1977), and after two years, we're finally going!

If anyone is there on Oct 2 and you see us, be sure to say hi!

Anyway, the point here is that we're following the advice from an earlier thread (thank you to swandiverpatt who posted the tips -- great posts), and we're dressing cool and comfortable.

OHHH I'll keep my eyes peeled for you! We will be a family of four pumpkins!

You and I are soooooo much alike! Outgoing is a blast when you have a "cover."

Yes, savor each moment. That's what it is all about, and that's what I REALLY want to do on this trip. Thank you for the reminder. :)

Behind Dumbo where? Since it's round, duh to me, sorry, but I'm not exactly sure what part is Dumbo's behind . . . (okay, so that's a one-liner just waiting to happen!).

Seriously, though: Which side is behind Dumbo? Silly question, I know, I know.

Having more fun here than anyone knows,

Copper :grouphug:

After reading all these tips it sounds fun but I am a little nervous about dropping almost 200 bucks to stand in line all night. Are the lines to meet characters really all that long? how about for candy and face painting? We haven't been that interested in meeting characters in the past and I certainly don't want to head in for a night of just waiting to meet characters. Should we really spend the money? We would go Oct.6th. Me, my husband, and our 3 girls ages 6, 4, and 2.

Also, will my girls be totally crushed if I put them in halloween clothes but not costumes? I just can't see them wearing some itchy princess gown all night and enjoying it. We are leaving in a week and don't have a lot of time to plan costumes either.

Disclaimer - This email makes me sound like a stick in the mud Mommy. I am really not. I had to talk my hubby into spending the money on this extra party and now I am having some doubts that's all!

We're going on the 6th and dressing in Halloween shirts rather than costumes. I think it will be a lot of fun regardless of how we dress. Also ther are plenty of things without lines--dance parties, parades, rides, fireworks, etc. There is a neat villian show we are looking forward to as well. No need to stand in line to see characters if you don't want to!

If you go during the peek time for photos you might, but the later the better, no lines.

Does anyone have suggestions for where to be on the parade route to get great photos? Where would the best lighting be?

I have been on Main Street before and in the hub. Both places are still to dark if you do not use a flash. I try not to because it takes away from the parade for some people and I am sure that it is distracting to the characters in the parade.

TIA

What about the earlier parade, is not too dark. I took good pics last year we were in front of the castle, not across street because you get the lights from the castle and then your pics would be dark.

Save your ticket to look back 10 years from now! We went to MNSSHP back in 1999 and saved the tickets which we put in our scrapbook. And the price per ticket per adult in 1999???? Are you ready for this???? $23.95 plus tax....ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT:eek: Children were $19.95:)

Ah...the good old days!

If you'd like a preview of all of the 2009 Halloween Merchandise, I took loads of photos and put together a video. You can see it on my blog here http://www.disneyeveryday.com/2009-halloween-merchandise-at-the-walt-disney-world-resort/

Get your shopping list together early!

Thank you so much for that! I looked through it with my kids, and they've narrowed down their selections so that shopping will be quicker on the night. Did you take the pictures during the MNSSHP? How much of the merchandise is exclusive to the party, and how much is out before 7? Also, does anyone know which locations give the 10% discount for the Disney Visa? I know it used to be only World of Disney at DTD, but now the Chase website says "select" locations throughout the property, but doesn't list them!

Add us to the list who are going 10/2. My daughter is trying to decide between going as Ariel or Jane, though I vote for the latter, because I bet she would be unique and have fabulous interactions with the Tarzan characters.

Also, though I really have read the entire thread, I can't find the list of characters who appear at the dance parties. Can someone point me to that, or add it to the update page?

Thanks!

That's awesome! I can't believe it was cheap! :lmao:

The pictures are two separate things. The one is right in front of the Haunted Mansion. The other is a little bit down the path towards where the riverboat docks along the water.

You can get either one as your free 5'7, we picked one with us in front of the castle because all of our nighttime Halloween pictures turned out bad.

Wow, just found this thread and I'm having a hard time reading all 100 pages. :rotfl: LOL Is the free 5x7 included with the MNSSHP ticket? Thanks!

Is it possible to get in if you have an ADR before 4 IF you don't have the day pass. There is a Tony's opening before 4.
No. It's not up to the CMs, either; the computers are programmed not to recognize the tickets until 4. CMs don't have a list or anything like they do for pre-park opening ADRs. So you can't even try to sweet-talk a CM.

No younger Carl or Ellie as characters at the park, but I believe there may be some merchandise with them.

No free 5X7, but with the Halloween Photopass card, you get 40% off the price of prints. You just enter the Photopass number ijn the Promotion Code field when you check out, or you can buy one during the party.
