MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

How will the kids feel if other kids are more dressed-up than they are? What are their ages and attitudes?

I have a friend who decided to dress her kids in very lightweight outfits instead of a costume -- two girls ages 4 and 6. She either dressed them in Halloween PJs or Halloween t-shirts with PJ shorts or cotton pants, not sure which, but I think it was full PJs, and they loved it. I remember she told me that she let them pick their outfits out, which helped.

SHE loved it because she didn't have to undress the kids when they returned "home" to AKL. They were already wearing their PJs!

I'm not sure if they did the free face painting, I'd have to check. I know they did the face painting in the past.

We have an 11 year old......probably the best able to handle the heat.....which for our clan isn't saying much.

A 7 year old who we call our "little artic researcher" We had to drag her out of a outdoor, unheated pool in late may....water temp....61. She wilts over 70.

A 3 year old......typical of our family, but heat cause severe personality disorder.

1 year old who goes with the flow....at this point, seems to handle heat well.

Two parents, late thirties, Anything over 80 is HOT and are always tired. :)

I will talk to the older ones about our options and my thoughts..........maybe hunt for a princess costume....lightweight for the 3 year old, and go with the prehistoric loin cloth look for the 1 year old. (by that i mean...just a diaper)

I made special Halloween shirts for me and DH to wear, and my cousin is dressing up as Snow White. I'm going to make sure that she has on clothes underneath because I have a feeling she'll want to take the dress off after a while.

I just brought an outfit in a ziplock and changed my niece after she was too hot in her Snow White costume. I think wearing another layer under the dress will make her even warmer.

This year I made Halloween dresses for my niece and myself. I cheated a bit by buying T-shirts and then made a skirt out of Halloween print material and attached it to the shirt. My niece is excited to wear it as she also has hair accessories to go with it. I even found some mini flashing pumpkins that clip to clothing, bags, etc.

So, I just bought my MNSSHP tickets! They added new AP/DVC discount days, and now our ticket day applies (Hooray!)
An FYI: they are having trouble processing the AP discounts online (especially for the new dates), so I had to call on the phone. I waited a LONG time on the passholder # at 9:20PM! Crazy. But I got my tickets.
They were also pushing mailing them, because they apparently have had long long lines to pick them up at MK on the days of parties during Sept. However, I didn't want to pay the $5 shipping charge, and I knew we were going to arrive a few days before the party and could pick them up elsewhere earlier. Also, they mail a copy of the MNSSHP map/flyer that they hand out at the party with the tickets.

So.... now we just need to pick out costumes for the party! Only 18 days to figure it out... I'm taking suggestions over on my pre-trip report, if you have some!

Bought our tickets (eticket thing was pretty cool!)! We are going on the 6th and since I bought the tickets the kids have to give me their candy.

Right?!?! That is the rule right? Well, that's what I am telling them so no one let on ok? :rotfl2:

Can't wait!:banana::banana::banana:

See you on the 6th! ;) And, I'm ALL for getting the kids candy! If I run into you ;), I'll be sure and back you up on that 'story'! :thumbsup2

I also just read that the Main Street Bakery is closed until Oct. 6. Whew, just made it!
Not that I'm doubting you Disney Dad but, may I ask where you read this? :sad1: It's tradition on our first morning to go to MK and get a croissant from that wonderful bakery. We arrive in MK on the 4th. I'll be so bummed without my croissant. :sad2: Thanks for the heads-up tho.

Thank you both so much for the info! Here's a possible saving grace tho - "Main Street Bakery - 9/28/09 - 10/6/2009 Casey's Corner and Plaza Ice Cream Parlor will be serving a continental breakfast while the bakery is closed." I can HOPE for a croissant, right? ;) We'll be at MK both 10/4 AND 10/6. Oh well, we'll deal with it. :goodvibes Thanks again! :thumbsup2

just wanted to pop on and say that i got my groups tickets today. i waited on the phone for about 40 minutes before giving up and getting them online. crazy. i didnt think i could endure listening to the welcome medley any longer.

we are going on the 6th! i think i saw a couple of others say that date, but i know we'll have lime green mickeys somewhere on something. in my group we have a wendy, cinderella (myself), prince charming, alice (possibly), and two anime characters.

just a question. we've asked on the phone and at the ticket booths. but ill ask here just in case:

getting in at 4pm? yes? no?

our group ADORES the move it shake it parade and on the 6th we'll be celebrating a birthday. there is a move it shake it at 5:40pm that day and we REALLY would love to do it in costume for her birthday. (she'll be so embarrassed but it'll be worth it) and obviously our plans will change if we cant get in.

so if anyone has gone already and gotten it at 4pm, was everything okay? did any CM's give you any hassles about being in costume? we're all adults and our costumes are pretty accurate to character and we would rather not get into trouble. ;)

Yes, you can enter the MK at 4 p.m. with your MNSSHP tickets. Your costumes shouldn't be a problem. Just don't sign any autographs or pose for pictures with other guests. Disney frowns on that. We saw a very accurate Tinkerbell one year. DD wanted her autograph but she explained she was not the real Tink and couldn't do that ... the real Tinkerbell would get jealous.

Awesome thread. As a first time going to MNSSHP, I have a few questions for the more experienced attendees. lol

Do alot of adults dress up in costume for this? My wife and I aren't sure if we are going to bother and just dress up the kids.

Is it ridiculously busy ON Halloween night? We'll be there Oct 30th, 31st, and Nov 1st. So we could go any of those nights but we were planning on going the 31st.

I've heard about the "some what secret hidden treasure" of the Headless Horseman Haunted Hayride at the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. Do they still do this? Is there a way to find a schedule or anything official on it?

Thanks so much. We are really looking forward to this trip and the kids are so excited we can't wait, three more months! I just wish now that we knew ahead of time about the free dining. We booked back in Jan, and they didn't announce it until Spring sometime. It figures too because we got MYW plus deluxe dining. :( Oh well.

We'll be there at the same time! We're first-timers for MNSSHP and are counting down the days. I'd be interested to know about the FW Hayride too......We're staying in one of the cabins. Doing MNSSHP on Halloween and all dressing up as Mario characters....DH is Luigi, DS is Mario, DD is Princess Peach and I'm Rosalina. LOL! Celebrating my and DS8 bday this trip!!!

thanks so much! ive heard about the no no on the autographs, and have been stopped before to talk with kids. i dont find it a big deal to talk to them, (especially if theyre really small) but i wouldnt sign anything.

thanks again!

Since we are staying at Pop on the FD. I was thinking of adding a 3rd MNSSHP to our stay. We have tickets for the 27th and the 31st already. We are thinking the 27th we will do the fireworks, parade, dance parties and trick or treating. They 31st we will just do the rides as I know it will be more croweded that night. I'm looking at the 29th as a possible.

Is the Wishes fireworks replaced with the HalloWishes fireworks on those MNSSHP nights? :confused3 TIA!

I have clicked on all the 'map' links and they are all just brochure info links. Is there an actual MAP of the candy spots to TorT at??:confused3

That map has where the ToT spots are. The 'goofy' marks are where the ToT are.

Yes, on party nights it's Hallowishes.

Can anyone tell me if the characters stay out during the parades?

The meet n greets were stopped during the parades on my visit but the some characters were our watching the parade and I did notice they were still very cordiall about posing just no PP photographer with them then.
