MNSSHP on arrival day?

We have 2 choices- MNSSHP on arrival day or on our last day. I arrive several days earlier and I will be picking up my mom and son from the airport at 11:30am. I will ideally be set already at our condo before picking them up (WBC).....so do you think doing MNSSHP at like 5pm that night is 'too much'?

My problem is that I want to do EMH AM hours on a thursday (our last day) but that day is ALSO a MNSSHP day- so I'd have to burn '2' tickets to do MK that day and make RD. I'd rather not do that. If we did MNSSHP on arrival, we could do MK on our last day--enjoy EMH (yes, we have an onsite ressie too)- and maybe even hit the road in the middle of the night to head home that day.

anyone do a ticketed event on their arrival day? Is it terrible?

So you will already be settled in, but what time will your mom and son have to wake up that morning and how long is their travel day?

I typically do not sleep well at all the night before a trip. For our Disney vacations I normally have to wake up before 5:00 am on travel day, after only a few hours of sleep. Last year both my 10 year daughter and I were ready for bed by 7:00 pm and we slept until the alarm went off the following morning. We were wiped out.

While it may be no problem for you to tramp around the MK until midnight, will it be a problem for your mom and your son?

We usually try to schedule the party on our last night, so that way being tired the following day isn't an issue since we're going home anyway. Personally, I would choose the last night and give up the EMH morning. It's only one hour anyway that you're gaining over any other morning. That one hour isn't worth starting the trip off tired for your mom and son. Plus, another thing to consider, if you do the party on their first night, won't everyone need to sleep in the next morning? Won't that "cost" you more than an hour of lost park time? Saving the party until the last night frees up that second morning for park touring. ;)

We did MNSSHP on arrival day and it worked out quite well. We spent time at the resort just relaxing around the room and pool for a couple of hours and then went to the party at 4 so we didn't have to use another ticket day. The next day we just planned that we might get a later start in the morning. I really wouldn't want to be on the road after being at the parks from rope drop until late at night. Since you will be doing both a day at MK and the party I think doing it different days would allow you to do everything you have planned. You might want to ask your mother if she has any preference also. Whatever you decide have a wonderful time.

My family has never tried it but we will on our arrival day this October. My son is 7 so we will see how it goes. He is used to getting up early for school but he is a night owl too. Hopefully he doesn't get too tired from the travelling. The flight is only 2 hours so it shouldn't be at bad. We should get to AKL around noon. While my inclination is going to be "get to the park, get to the park", I know it will be better if we just chill out for a few hours first.

To me it all depends on your son and how much rest he will get the night before. It would stink to shell out the money only to have to leave after a couple of hours

Neither would I, but we fly and we do not spend the entire party day in parks. If we do rope drop we make sure we get a midday break. Usually we do only the party that day, arriving at 4:00. :thumbsup2

Our flight is also only two hours, but we live two hours away from the airport on top of that, and we take the early morning flight, and I'm always too excited to sleep LOL. :faint: :rotfl:

My daughter is also a night owl but that works against her when it comes to arrival day because she doesn't get any sleep the night before. By the time I get her to bed it's almost time to wake her up. :headache:

:) I hear you on that! It would be great to keep it as a complete surprise but I get too excited and can't keep my mouth shut!

We live about an hour away from our airport. We have a hotel at the PIT airport itself so we sleep there the day before. Best money spent to be able to sleep a couple of extra hours and not have to rush out the door.

Ah, then you're in our neck of the woods LOL. We live just north of Morgantown, WV and fly out of PIT. :cool1:

I've considered a hotel the night before many times but haven't done it yet. I wish I had a couple of times in January/February when the threat of snow and ice totally stressed me out!

We've done this before, and will do it again this fall. The first time, we flew in, arrived about noon, got checked in, headed to DTD for a walkabout and lunch, then back to the resort to rest. We went into MK at 4:30 and stayed until about 11:00. Didn't try rope drop the next day.

This year, just DS and I are driving down in October (DH has to work, poor baby!). We will stay at Valdosta, then drive the rest of the way the next day, arriving about noonish and follow the same plan. No hurries, no worries!

We have and it worked out fine!! And it was a much tighter squeeze than your proposed one lol!

We flew in, arrived around 4pm, on the bus to the hotel, checked in, changed quickly, and flew off to MK as fast as we could, still made it for around 7, and had a blast!

It's a VERY long day for us, but if your group is arriving around 11:30 am, there's time for a nap & some decent food & prep time before you head out to the party so I'd say it'd work out perfectly!

We went to MNSSHP on our arrival day last year. We had been up since 5am because we had to catch an early flight. It was okay for everyone except for our 6 year old daughter. She fell asleep at a table by Casey's Corner during the fireworks.
