My mom and I are making bags and taking them. We're buying canvas bags with handles to decorate with Halloween designs on them. And then we're going to have the characters sign them. I'm hoping we can find orange bags around Halloween time. I think they would look better than the plain bags.

Lori

Lori, I just saw some plain orange canvas bags at Michael's yesterday that are the perfect size for trick-or-treating and for decorating. They were very inexpensive, too.

Last year we were Hurricane Wilma escapees (meaning as soon as she was out of South Florida so were we). Thank Goodness for Disney and FL rates. Because we left so soon after Wilma, we didn't bother with costumes. At first my DD12(at the time) wanted me to buy her one. I bought her a HM t-shirt and then we discovered that they were offering free face painting. She had her face painted as a Jack-O-Lantern. It was so cute. We went to the one booth leading to ToonTown. They wouldn't even accept a tip. But they do limit on what they will paint. You have about 7-10 different choices. I'm sure its because they take the least amount of time and more kids can get their faces painted.

Just a quick note about the face painting. We went at about 8:00 PM last year and the line was really long ... I think we waited around 50 mins. Also, my niece got an option that was not offered on the official choices, See pic below ... it was not my favorite, but she loved it!

3 weeks from today I will be at MNSSHP. :cool1: Just bumping this up, so I can get lots of tips.

Just A FYI for those of you who do not want to dress up but might want to wear Halloween themed T- I was at Target last night and they had some cute t-shirts in the Jr Dept. They were only 5 bucks! I am sure they had some in the ladies, mens and childrens depts but I did not go to check.

I got a cute one that says "Sweet & Sinister Candy Shop Est. 1692" in silver lettering and a pretty silver design on a black shirt. I actualy just bought it b/c it was so cute- I think I can get away with wearing it whenever!

We are going on 10/2 and have ADR at LTT at 4:05. Last year we had ADR at LTT at 4:30. I think that would be the latest I would make them as who wants to waste time eating while the party ig going on. I would never have an ADR outside MK for that night especially 5:00 or later as you won't get to the park until 7:30 or later if you are taking Disney transport.

We had no problem getting in at 4:00 and they already had the treat bags there. I think it was the leftmost turnstile.

My son was Prince Phillip last year and daughter was sleeping beauty. They both were WAY too hot and I won't make that mistake again this year. I really like the PJs idea and my kids already have several PJ pals to choose from. It will be so easy -- right from the party to bed, probably a little dirty, but hey its DW.

Now I changed my Tonys ressie for 9/22 from 4:30 to 5:30 b/c of the later time they are kicking everyone else out. I hope this was not a mistake.

Does anyone know a good way to try and get a seat outside of Tonys for dinner ??? I dont think I would mind so much eating later if I could at least people watch while we are dining!

We're going 10/2 also! But we have ADRs at 5:30 for LTT. I thought this would be plenty of time, you don't think so? Party starts at 7, right? I might make them earlier if I can. I thought an hour and half would be long enought but maybe not.

Sounds like we are in the same boat! EEEK! :scared:

I guess I want to get the most for my $ as I'm paying for the hard-ticketed event. If they are going to let me in at 4, I want to be there at 4 and since I won't be using a park pass that day, we'll use snack credits for lunch at POFQand eat early. I figure we'll be out in the parks by 6 to rides some rides as they clear people out - where ever they put us. Last year we were able to enjoy the rides early so we could watch the parade, go to the dance party, etc. later in the evening. My kids are younger (5.5, 4.5, 2.5) so my window is probably smaller than others.

Which way does the Headless Horseman run? MS to Frontierland?

Going for the first time Oct. 17th -can't wait!!!!

How does everyone get all their candy home??

When we watched the parade last year, the headless horseman did ride during the second parade, and he approached from Frontierland towards Main Street. Bring an extra suitcase for all of your candy and souvenirs.

TIPS

The first MNSSHP I attended was in 1995 when DS Erich was 2 years old. There were only 3 PARTIES at that time! We've been almost every year since then only missing the Halloween festivities once or twice. We missed last year due to my mothers illness. :( On my various times I've traveled with a toddler,a Senior citizen in an ECV,a large group, just me and my son, Erich,to now with my DH,Joe,and my DSS,Jonathan. So I've learned a few things along the way that I'd like to share with my fellow DISers.

****Baloo's Top Ten Tips****

1.Except for HALLOWEEN NIGHT do not worry about crowds at MNSSHP. There are a limited amount of tickets sold for this event. Disney is very closed mouth about the actual attendance but the rides are very doable. Fantasyland gets a little crowded earlier in the evening but thins out as the night goes on and little ones wear out! I've never waited more than 15 mins in a ride line at on a party night. The Mts are practically WALK ONS! We've ridden Splash Mt. 3 times in a row without leaving our log!

2.The second parade is less crowded.

3.The best trick or treating is in Toontown! There was an area called Alice and the Mad Hatter's Treat Party. Our bags were LOADED after strolling down this path! We weighed our bags and between Erich,Joe and I we had 15 POUNDS of treats!!!

4.Catch some of the bands that perform throughout the MK lands during the night. And don't be shy to get up and shake, shake, shake your bones like a skinny old skeleton or howl like a werewolf!!

5.Try and see "the special guest" that takes over Tinkers Bell's flight before the fireworks begins. The BEST viewing area is on the bridge to Tomorrowland.

6. I'm not sure he's still there but in Liberty Square in front of the Liberty Bell about 10 min.s before the parade begins "Mr. Knickerbocker" tells the story of the Headless Horseman. When he finishes his tale, the Headless Horseman begins his gallop through the MK. When the Horseman has ridden the entire parade route, the parade begins!

7. Don't feel silly if you're a grown up and want to dress up! Wearing a costume, is part of the Halloween fun!

8. Make sure your costumes are COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in. You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.

9.Take time to really LOOK at all the wonderful Halloween decorations throughout the MK especially while strolling down Main Street. You never know where you might see a giant spider crawling atop of a building.Corn stalks and jack o' lanterns and over sized treat bags set the autumn mood.

10.My biggest tip is the day of the party have a light schedule, take a nap or have some "down time" the afternoon of the party! I can't stress this enough ,especially if you have little ones or Seniors traveling with you! Erich (Jon wasn't able to go) was 11 lthe last year we attended and we still did this.Even if he didn't actually sleep he watched t.v. and rested...Joe and I slept! LOL! You want to be able to stay as late as possible because the later it gets the more the crowd thins out.It seems a lot of people start exiting after the fireworks which is shortly after the first parade.

Have a SPOOKTACULAR good time at MNSSHP 2006!!!

DS Erich as Le Puss N Boots MNSSHP 2004

Here's Disney's "official " guidelines for costumes at MNSSHP:

They should not interfere with their ability to board and un board attractions and WDW transportation system.

Do not drag on the ground.

Do not contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.

Be offensive to other guest.

Should not contain any weapon(s) which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

About the last one....when Erich was the pirate he had a flexible rubber pirate knife with a skull on the end. When the boys were Ninja Turtle's one had plastic swords strapped to his back and the other the little plastic daggers in his belt.As Puss N Boots he carried a sword. We had NO PROBLEMS at any time with these props.

BALOO'S COSTUME TIPS
smiliefrankenstine.gif

Make sure your child's costume is COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in. You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.

I also suggest something in a light weight fabric. Those of us that are accustom to Halloweens up North are use to Trick or Treating in something warm.I grew up in Indiana and it was always cold and/or raining when I was a Trick or Treater! The costumes that are sold through the Disney catalog, like Tigger or Pooh, the jump suit FUR type ones, those are really TOO HEAVY for a Halloween in Florida! The most we've ever needed at MNSSHP is a light jacket or sweatshirt.I make my boys costumes.

If your little girl is going to be a Princess or something quite lovely... I know she looks adorable in those glass slippers but bring sneakers or some other comfortable shoe for her to wear.I've seen little ones dragging around crying about their feet hurting because they're in those plastic dress up shoes which are killing them!

COSTUME IDEAS

I make all our costumes .. I just LOVE to do that. A ball cap and craft foam or felt can be turned into all sorts of creatures faces!! Let's see the costumes I can remember... Erich has been a Mickey,a pirate ,a t-rex,a turtle,a triceratops,an Ewok,a praying manthis and last year Puss N Boots! Erich and Jonathan Teenage Ninja Turtles and ,Pokemon. I make the costumes from shorts and t-shirts.Then I have a sweatshirt and sweat pants that are the same color that they can wear over the shorts and under the shirt if the night is chilly.Joe and I have worn light jackets.

If you feel like you're too old or just don't want to dress in costume for MNSSHP I have great luck finding Disney theme Halloween t-shirts in my local Kmart,Walmarts and Targets. At WDW there are commemorative T-shirts for the MNSSHP.Or you could make your own T-shirt! We have a whole board devoted to t-shirt designs right here on the DIS.

:joker: EASY TO DO & EASY TO PACK COSTUME IDEAS :joker:

101 Dalmatians.... You could take white shorts/pants and t-shirts and go to town with spots! Ears could be made out of felt or craft foam on ball caps (esp for the guys) or maybe headbands for the ladies. :dogdance:

The Mickey Mouse Club....Red pants, mouse ears,t-shirts with each ones name on it. ::MickeyMo

Baseball players...Your favorite team's jersey/t-shirt and a ball cap, shorts or sweats and sneakers.

Pirate....Easy and light weight too. Black shorts or capris, striped shirt, bandana,an eye patch,a hoop earring and there ya go....arrrrrrrrrrgh matey!!! pirate:

I did a search on Halloween costumes .I found several pretty cool sites for make your own. There are 100's of places to buy costumes online!

Thought I'd share these with my DIS Trick or Treaters!

Oh yeah one more piece of advice I have is if you are going to watch the parade besides getting your seat early I would recommend watching it around the Hall Of Presidents, about 10-15 minutes before the parade and the Headless Horseman rides, there is a creepy old man carrying a lantern telling the story of the Headless Horseman as he walks part of the parade route, then after he is done the Headless Horseman rides through, it's great but usually that area is packed so get there early!!

did not know that....excellent advice

O Joe, when you say they let you in at 4pm when you have tickets to the MNSSHP, do you mean without admission to the parks? We're planning to do a water park on the day of our MNSSHP and when I called to make reservations for Tony's I was told that if I didnt have admission "to the parks" and only had my MNNSHP ticket the first reservation I was allowed to get is at 6pm! She wouldnt give me her 5:45pm reservation that was available. I called twice and got the same answer. Please clarify. Thank you!

When I called and ordered my MNSSHP for Oct. 10, I specifically asked what time could we get in with those tickets. I was told 7pm. What gives? :confused3

Mommyto2Princesses, I THINK, but I'm not sure that it's kind of one of those "unwritten rules" that Disney has. I know in the past years I have been able to get in at 4:00 and I've heard others say they have been able to as well... And the lady that I ordered my Oct. 27th tickets from told me that we would be able to get in at 4:00, but I also made Liberty Tree ADR's for 4:15... But I don't think you'll find 4:00 as the MNSSHP ticket holder's entrance time anywhere on the WDW official website. I also read somewhere that they won't let non-MNSSHP ticket holders in the park after 4:00 or 5:00.
