Mnsshp 2006-tips Only

This may be wrong to do, but DD8 and I won't be dressed in Disney character costumes because most everyone else will be. Call us rebels, but we're not going to wear the same costumes that 10,000 other people will be wearing. But if my DD was younger and believed in more "magic", I'm sure I'd give in and let her go as a princess or tink too! :thumbsup2

I am sad to burst your bubble, but I'm dressing just like you . . . I, too, am going as a Disney-loving tourist (no costume required)! :rotfl2:

Certainly not wrong, you'be got to do what you guys are "into", after all it is your trip!

We figure our pirate shirts will be our biggest investment (about $60 total for the 3 of us) and we can wear them to 2 other parties that we know are coming up before Halloween. And if it was anything other than a pirate tee, my DH wouldn't be bothered to dress up either!

Wow Deb I think we have the same costume.

This will be our first time attending. I can't wait.

I can't believe people are not planning to ride rides. Last year that was one of the best parts. They were all walk ons. I guess that is because people would rather trick or treat. We decided to go to 2 parties this year, I guess one night we will concentrate on rides and one night on the party events.

Last year my dh was cpt. hook (he created his own costume) and I was tinkerbell (disneyshopping.com costume).....my 4 yr old was peter pan and the rest of my kid did their own type of thing. It was fun to dress up but it was very hot and miserable...........dh said this year he is NOT dressing up....no way no how! I am going to wear black shorts, black t-shirt and buy some cat ears and a tail and paint some whiskers on my face and be a cat.

One thing to remember is if your kids wear a costume don't make it a scary one. My 10 year old had a scary mask and at the gate they told him he could not wear it because this was a not so scary party. He was a little upset but he got over it quickly.

One more tip......we sat in front of the castle for the parade last year....right across from it in the little circle thing. This was not a good place to view the headless horseman. He was so fast and so close to us that he literally almost stepped on us. It was a little scary and there was no way to get a picture. The CM kept telling everyone to please stay behind the line and not shine any type of light or flash. She said that the rider can't see anything and that the horse is guided by light down the parade route. She said if he is distracted by another light he might go towards it.

Actually, we aren't planning on doing much trick or treating, only as much as DS wants. We wants to be sure we see all the other party activities and might even watch the parade twice since this is our first time attending.

We've been to WDW a bunch of times, this will be our 8th trip since 9/00, DS has been on everything in the MK at least a 1/2 dozen times so our trips are less about riding everything & more about taking our time to stop & smell the roses, so to speak.

Nothing wrong with either plan, just explaining why we plan to do things they way we do. :)

Oh, we'll both be in costume, but just not Disney costumes. ;) Since we're from WI and trick or treating is usually quite cold, this will be my DD's first time wearing a costume where long sleeves/pants aren't required. Finally, she can wear what she wants, not what the weather dictates! (well, the weather will dictate us to dress lightly, but that's a welcome change for us!)

I am not wearing a costume either. But I will be wearing a rather festive Halloween t-shirt. :thumbsup2

 see ya on the 15th, I think dh and I will wear shorts and a t-shirt, dd12 want's to wear a formal blue gown and be Cinderella ! I'm trying to talk her out of it because of the heat. we can't wait! :dance3:

Too hot for Halloween? Now THAT is going to be a switch! Usually we are trying to get costumes that are big enough to put snow-suits on underneath!

My DW is making us all "royal" costumes with a Canadian theme to them (red and white with maple leafs). Guess I'll have to make sure she doesn't put in too much lining to make them too hot ... And to think she was planning on making jackets to match as well in case it is too cold. Now it sounds like we should be more worried about making them too hot ...

Glad I read this thread. Thnx everyone!

dont think i saw this yet, if someone already mentioned this, sorry for the repeat. unless something has changed the headless horseman only rides in the first parade not the second one of the night.

Not true. Not sure where this info is coming from but we always watch the second parade and we have always seen the Headless Horseman.

The only time he doesn't ride is if the ground is wet.

its on deb wills site, allears.net. it says "the headless horseman only rides for the 8 o'clock parade, the 10 o'clock parade is a candy caravan"

I see. Well, it's either a mistake or that is something new for this year. But my opinion is that its a mistake.

I've seen the headless horseman for the last 3 year's parties just before the second parade.

Guess we'll know by Sept 15 what the story is.

Well, I hope he does ride in both. We have ADRs at Epcot and will be cutting it close for the 8pm parade. In the event that we miss the start of that one, I'd like the chance to see the second. I'm going to try to move my ADRs up a bit, but I don't know if I'll be able to. We'll see.

Hopefully, its a mistake. I emailed the website to bring it to their attention and see what they might say about it. Don't know if I'll hear from them but it was worth a shot because we wouldn't want false info circulating and people basing their plans on it too.

Should know for sure by Sept 15!

Last year, the headless horseman rode in both parades, although I still missed him because of getting photos with characters. My DH caught him on video, though.

A photopass is a card, about the size of a credit card, that the Disney photographers scan each time you have your picture taken. (They'll give you one if you don't already have one.) Then, you can access online all of your pictures from your whole trip all at once when you get home (and I think at some locations in the parks, too?). Makes comparing them and ordering only the best ones easy. We love photopass!

Not to mention the fact that you can buy the CDs with all your Photopass pictures on them for $99 plus tax, so make sure to get plenty of pictures taken (I'm assuming your MNSSHP ones would be in with the regular pics if you use the same card?). Also, in lieu of giving free photos this year, you'll be able to get your MNSSHP Photopass pictures with a 50% discount if you opt to buy prints.
