MN and WI schools?

I know there are some states where the kids go back to school very early in the summer. Can you tell me when your kids go back?

A few days before Labor Day...or after is the school is under construction. If we were to start any earlier, they'd have to air condition the schools - not a tax hike many citizens would support.

Our schools started the Tuesday after Labor Day this year. Last year they started the week before Labor Day. Almost all the schools start sometime during this two week time.

My son started the week before Labor Day this year.

I believe it is actually a law that they can't start before Labor Day, but the school can ask that an exception be made, which they always seem to do.

State law in WI requires schools to start after Labor Day. This is to help protect the tourism industry...all the teens can work at the Dells, Door County, etc. through the Labor Day weekend.

I think that this is now the law is MI also.

MN starts right around Labor Day. It's a state law now. When I was in school (back in the horse & buggy days), we started the Wed before Labor Day.

My nephews in LA start the 1st week in Aug.

I believe is more the deep south school who start early.

Correction here - the WI state law is the public schools cannot start before September 1st. The individual districts can then decide if they want to start before or after Labor Day. This year, my DD started on Sept 1, which was the Thursday before Labor Day. Next year, when September 1 is on a Friday, I'm betting we just start after Labor Day.
