MK Obama speech broadcasted?

It's even easier to avoid than that -- if you can't control yourself, simply don't post. Doesn't matter how many threads there are, or who issues snark. It's not a license to jump in.

Seriously... I'd say that some posters act like children -- but given the anonymity of the Internet, it's safe to say that it's because at least some posters actually are children.

That said, I've seen more maturity on the Disboards over the years from the ones who admit they're kids.

There seems to be a commonality in regard to the people who jump into all of these threads to take their narrow minded political shots.

For the once in a lifetime vacationer... this will be a major bust on their Disney vacation... especially if they arrive to MK unware that Main St. is being closed all day.

There are many other less disruptive places to make a speech at Disney World... or go at a time when parks are closed. But I see a politician who wants things a certain way... day time... with the castle in the background, etc..

I wonder if the Mouse will be there too. Guess we will find out tomorrow.

I hate to say it, but the reason he is there is purely political. Not to mention, he is a politician. Anytime a politician is mentioned it IS political. So, in order to keep the "political crap" somewhere else, then NO politician should be talked about on these boards. Ever. End of story. Michelle. :flower3:

So True... Don't you just laugh when a "politician" claims they are a "Washington Outsider" and that they are not a policitican or are going to not be a politician in office? My definition of politician -- someone who needs to bend and waffle their views to please anyone and everyone who will contribute money or other resources to help the "politician" get and keep their job.

I have to say i am so happy that we are not leaving until monday! we were there this week last year and i would have been quite cranky at a crowd spike LOL....and not happy to see the president either.

channel who cares

Wow, that was a brilliant comment. Shouldn't you be in school right about now? Getting an education or maybe just some class??:confused3

Try ABC. Disney owns it.

But you should be able to catch the highlights on any of the evening news broadcasts or on the internet.

Thank you-I forgot about the ABC connection :)

I think Obama could go somewhere else to make a political speech and not cause grief for vacationers at Magic Kingdom..... but I'm sure Disney is happy about it -- it's some "free" advertising and publicity.

He could go somewhere else, but why would he? WDW is considered one of the most popular travel destinations in the U.S. & he is speaking about tourism. & of course Disney is happy about it. If they were not, they would have just said......wait for it......NO.

Sorry, but the downfall of traveling to WDW during the slowest time of the year is a bunch of refurbs and a little last minute inconvenience sometimes. That's just common sense for people who did their homework before they travel during the slow periods. If someone is really gonna cry over a few hours of inconvenience in one section of the MK & say that "Obama ruined my vacation!" I'm guessing there is more going on with that person than the president making a speech.

As mentioned, you can bet it will be live on all of the major cable news nets. If you don't have cable, you should be able to see highlights both online and on your evening news.

Regardless of politics, I think it's great to see a sitting president speak in front of the castle -- it's something I can't recall ever seeing before.

I agree! Political views aside, it is a major event and I'm excited for it. :)

Wow, 10 points on the brain train for you-of course it's political-he is a POLITICIAN!! :rotfl: & of course it's a relevant topic-a major event is happening in the MK & I'm wondering if it will be broadcasted  Don't get your panties in a wad over a topic just because you don't like the topic. I don't like the Stitch character, but I don't get all huffy when someone asks a question about it. Could you imagine?? Darn that Stitch-he has no place doing a meet & greet in MK, causing all those lines! Now my vacation is ruined!!:headache: :rotfl:

Thank you to the ones who replied to this thread with an actual answer :flower3:

I'd check Whitehouse.gov They webcast all his speeches. This one may be on the news channels just because he's at Disney, but the majority of his speeches aren't actually covered live. Whitehouse.gov usually broadcasts everything (I work at a gov't agency. Almost every speech that deals with us directly is not covered by the news channels or even c-span so we go to White House.gov to watch it live. The news channels usually just play clips).

It's funny, I have seen threads closed VERY QUICKLY over seeming innocuous comments related to the cost of health care. I find many comments in these threads extremely offensive but they have a life of their own!

I would also like to see the speech. Thanks to all for your helpful comments to OP's requests.

While it is hyperbole to claim "My vacation is ruined!" because of this, for many people it will be far from a trivial disruption. As one DIS'er on the first (locked) thread stated, tomorrow is their first day at WDW and they had planned to be at MK and had an ADR on Main St. that is now useless. She will be required to re-work her plans for the trip to now avoid MK tomorrow. She was at least thankful that she found about this from the DIS and had some extra time to come up with a Plan B as Disney (at the time of posting) had not alerted her about the ADR.

While I agree that it's silly to be talking about "demanding money back", the bottom line is that even though Disney may scramble to try and smooth things out, this visit will be a significant pain in the rear to a number of families at WDW tomorrow.

and aren't the MK resorts on some kind of lock down for a bit?

Thank you:) I will try that tomorrow. Do you know what part of his website I should go to for his speech webcasts? I went to his website a few minutes ago and did a search for Disney, but nothing came up.

No. Read the news articles if you are looking for the correct information.

oh, great. Not only is he making things a pain for those who were planning on being at MK today, but he is also making it easier for those lovely tour groups (that we all love so much) to come to Disney. UGH

Seriously?

ok, this is the first I heard that it is some speech and that main street will be closed. We were only told by some random CM at AK this afternoon that Obama will be at MK tomorrow and security will be tight. That's it. They also changed EMH hours as of yesterday and messed up everyone's plans for today and tomorrow. We weren't the only ppl at AK too early because it was supposed to be EMH and ended up missing EMH at MK this morning because it's supposed to be tomorrow! :headache:

At least we'll be enjoying a very rare fireworks display at HS tomorrow night.

We also have CM ADRs for breakfast tomorrow and no one has contacted us to say there will be any issues.....

It depends on what the SS defines as the "zone." It's SOP that once the President takes the stage at an event that movement in and out of the "zone" is blocked. As more details come out, it may be that only Main St. will be considered the zone and guests may continue to be allowed in and out of the parks via the backstage area and front gates. However, since there's no way to get from the turnstiles to the backstage area entrance by the firehouse without walking through part of Main St., movement might be blocked in and out of the park during the actual speech. One area I'm curious about is "the hub" in front of the castle. Since it's been stated that the public will be unable to visibly see the President, it sounds like it might be blocked off too and people would have to walk the back way if they wanted to get from land to land.

From what I've read, I'm guessing that zone will be from the foot of Main Street -- not including Town Square -- to the castle and the hub. Guests will go backstage behind Town Square Theater and into Tomorrowland.

So -- best strategy is probably to book it from Tomorrowland all the way to Adventureland and work your way back as everyone else works their way towards you. I'm guessing the backstage area behind Crystal Palace will be part of the zone and where they park The Beast.

Also, they are showing the president's speech live in the Hall of Presidents.

Disney may be thrilled, but not everyone is happy with Disney providing this platform, nor the content of this speech. They are making a big political statement. Publicity isn't always good thing...
