Missoni for Target

On the Today show this morning, Savannah was interviewing a rep from Target (out of studio) along with a fashion reporter and a woman who was first in line at the NYC pop up Target store (those two in studio).

My husband, who wouldn't know fashion if it punched him in the face, said "That reporters outfit is so much nicer than Missoni stuff!" I said "The reporter is wearing Missoni!" He said "No way!" At the end of the report, they said that the shopper was wearing a Missoni for Target dress and the reporter was wearing the real deal.

Side by side, you could see the lack of quality in the Target Missoni outfit especially in the fabric and construction. Side by side, there is no comparison! The Target colors look like Chinatown knockoffs I'd find on Canal Street!

I am not surprised. If the clothes are inexpensive, there is no way they can compare in quality to a real Missoni knit. Those things are just beautifully made as well as beautiful to look at.

Actually, the Missoni zigzags are wonderful on fat people. They tend to visually slim them down. I am not interested in the Target stuff (I can just imagine the quality) but DH did have a Missoni knit polo shirt that looked fabulous on him (yes, he's fat). Actually, DD18 now has it and wears it because it still looks so good and is appropriately "funky" for her.

Huh, I didn't think the clothes were very flattering on either of the people from Missoni in the MTV article.

We can add Missoni to my list of "Popular things other folks love and you hate" list.... where's the barfing smiley when you need him??

Wow that's some ugly stuff!

It's like psychedelic Charlie Brown. Can't wait until I start seeing all these regular people wearing it around town..Probably carrying their Vera Bradley bags too.

I guess I'm just not a print girl.

I live in a very artistic and funky community where people get away with wearing things much more questionable than this. None of this shocks me or makes me use the term "fugly", although I will admit that even I wouldn't wear those lounge pants...

I actually like the 70's vibe that the colors give, but that is my personality. ( I also adore the whole "Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii" theme the Poly has going on). I get it, different strokes for different folks, it's not for everyone and that's perfectly ok. I absolutely love my sweater dress though, it fits like a glove and it's medium weight. In no way do I think that this is comparable in quality to $500 Missoni, nor did I ever, it's different fabric and construction but the patterns are the same or similar and that is what attracted me. I can't afford an $800 sweater stitched by Marghareta Missoni herself, but I can afford the Target version for $50 and I love it.

I have to say that I don't like all the pieces all worn together. Taken by themselves as elements in different outfits, however, I love them. Once again, my opinion, it's not for everyone. My friend in Louisiana was able to find me a scarf, so I will have that as well to spruce up a basic black t-shirt, and a headband. And since the rainy season is starting up here in Seattle again, I'll be rocking those rain boots nearly every day. :thumbsup2

AMEN ... LOL I have never been a Missoni fan, and Target didn't do anything to change my mind. I have to go to our Target today, so i will however check out to see if they have anything left just for fun.

OMG! Anyone have a spare $1500 dollars laying around? I :lovestruc this:

That's how I feel.

Now that I can get on the Target website, I did find one thing I like. Out of stock, of course.

De gustibus non est disputandum. :flower3:

I think they are lovely, if only I could afford them.

Or you could always go with the popular "there's no accounting for taste". :)

I think some of the accessories are really cute, I love funky hats, scarves, socks, etc. I'll admit it, there's no way I could pull off the whole look though, I think you have to be 6' and 95 pounds to do that.

Just curious though, how many of you who think that's an ugly look also think that wearing a fanny pack makes you look super cool? Or an entire family with matching t-shirts for every day of your vacation? It's all personal taste, just because it's "fugly" to one person doesn't mean it is to another.

Ok, folks: I got some scoop. My brother works for Target Corp in MN & I asked him how it went with the rollout. He said: "Lol. We projected 3.5 million for the week, we did over 10 million yesterday. We had 6 "weeks of supply" (we thought) and we are almost through it."

WOW!! it's personally not my style but I'm sure most of us buy things that others think are ugly. Congrats to those who got the items they wanted!

Ix nay on the fanny packs AND the matching shirts. :)

I like some of the pieces that Saks sells. I can't imagine wanting to wear something that screams -Look what me & 3 million other people bought at Target!
