Mission Space big mistake!

I was one of the ones who rode Mission Space during the soft opening. I'll never ride it again. I threw up after getting off the ride.:( I felt sick and my head was spinning - I had to sit down for awhile. This is like the Spinning Teacups on steroids. Disney made a huge mistake and what a waste of money. Small kids and grand parents will not (can not) ride this ride and those who do will not do it again. If you do, you may barf and end up dizzy for hours. I was watching a lot of riders get off feeling sick too. It wasn't just me. I didn't like the tight enclosed space - it made me claustrophobic. A lot of people will ride this ride because it's new, but I predict extremely short lines in a year or two.

This is a Disney Disaster that Michael Eisner approved. Imagine if the money were spent on building a cool Disney dark ride instead. Michael Eisner was trying to add another thrill ride to compete with Universal and to attract teenagers. Big Mistake!! In doing so, Eisner has destroyed the charm of Epcot and has taken away some of the Disney magic. Disney should have rides for everyone. Wasn't the reason why Walt built Disneyland was to provide rides the entire family can enjoy together?

Disney should have KEPT Horizons, World of Motion and the original Imagination ride. What was Disney thinking when they took out those cool rides that everyone enjoyed?? Epcot hasn't been the same since. I miss the old Epcot.

BRING BACK HORIZONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you keep your head back and stare straight ahead? I was told that you couldn't look from side to side because then you would detect the spinning.

I already know that I'll never ride this. The enclosed space bothers me more than the nausea even though that worries me a bit too. Oh well, a lot of people do seem to enjoy it (but I miss Horizons big time!) :(

From this report, im liking Mission Space already!!!!
And hopefully this means the lines will be short!!

Hi, I understand thrill rides are not for everyone but not every ride disney builds has to appeal to kids and grandparents. Remember if disney didn't provide for the teen market then when these teens grow up they wont be taking their kids to Disneyworld because of the boring memories they had when they were kids.

As it stand now i think WDW and all the other Disney destinations provide rides for all the family in just the right amounts. There are the thrill rides, family rides and plently rides for the little ones. Not to mention all the entertainment that is enjoyed by everyone. No other theme park can seem to get this balance, nothing will ever come close to Disney.

Sorry you did not like the ride but many did and will.
It is almost sellfish of you to call it a mistake because you did not like it. It is like saying I don't like seafood so Disney should not have any seafood restarunts.
Diversity is essential for survival, you can't please everyone all the time.

I was going to try out Mission Space on my next trip. I absolutely love the Disney rides and i never feel sick but spinning does make me feel sick.
Thankyou for telling us about this because the last thing i want is to be ill at Disney.:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I just talked to a co-worker who rode it last week. This was her first visit to WDW. She got sick after Star Tour and Body War but had absolutely no trouble with Mission Space. In fact, she rode it 3 times. And she is in her 60's. So, just because you didn't like it and got sick doesn't mean it will not be a huge hit. The fact that they now have a huge ride like this at Epcot is fantastic. Epcot needed it and now it has it.

Video can make people including me seasick even if the seat (or vehicle or cabin) is stationary. I haven't ridden it but I am sure that the scenery in Mission Space is done with video.

If you feel seasick on a ride, close your eyes! Then you may open your eyes every so often briefly for a quick flash.

I cannot do virtual reality and I cannot play some video games because I get seasick.

Also some kinds of video affect people differently. You don't need to know details such as "72 Hz refresh" and "progressive scan" but I have noticed that some video does not make me seasick.

My 71yo mother-in-law rode Mission Space last month and LOVED it. I was a bit concerned about whether or not she would be able to handle the ride, but my concerns were unfounded.

I miss Horizons. Heck, I miss the World of Motion. But my personal opinion of Mission Space is that the whole ride experience (pre-show, ride, post-show) is well done.

Many people old and young do not ride the rock n roller coaster because they do not like the twists and flips, or the tower of terror beacuse of the dark and the drops, or ride star tours beacuse it is a motion simulator ride, but that doesn't mean that the rides are bad or no good, its just a personell opinion.
Keeping the old rides and attractions just the way they were, is also just a personal opinion.
New is also not better but it is different.
We all make our own choices and have our own opinions, but they are just that, our own.

No wonder the airlines are going broke. I saw a kid puke when I flew down in July. Those jets are the biggest waste of money. What were they thinking ?!?

Definitely not a big mistake. I think it is a great ride. Sorry you got sick but the majority of people that I have heard have enjoyed it.

You know, those warnings in the queue and preshow are there for a reason, and that is to follow them. Not to ignore them and then complain about getting sick later.

I thought mission:space was a great ride and I rode it 4 times on my trip in late June/early July! I didn't feel any spinning at all. I kept my head back except for a few times when the g-forces weren't pushing me back and I still felt fine. I plan to ride this attraction many many more times!!!! I give it 5/5 stars!!

I too miss Horizons and World of Motion. I also feel Disney is not buiding enough animatronics based dark rides. However, its sounds like Mission Space it a great ride with strong theming and a great pre and post show. I find it hard to call that a mistake. There is a good chance it will make me sick (I'm very sensitive to spinnning rides), but I still see it as a worthy addition to the park. It sure as heck beats something like Alladin's Carpets or Triceritops spin.

Horizons/World of Motion had their day but were correctly removed because few people rode them anymore!!!! If these two rides had corwds to jusitfy their existence they would still be here but it makes little sense for a company to operate rides that not many people want to experience!!

It's too early to call it a "mistake", but from reports I think it's safe to say that MS will have the biggest "barf factor" of any WDW attraction to date. And for every person that reports they "lost it" after the ride, there's several more that report the need to sit down for a while afterwards... I hope they've got a nice big seating area ready.

I guess we'll see how big of a mistake it was when it soon becomes the most popular attraction at Disney World. We all know that it will be. Horizons was great and all but after one ride on this thing I'm sure I will totally forget about it. Bring on Mission Space!!!
