Missing Student College Of NJ Any Info!!!!!--UPDATE

This story really has me shaken. My son is considering TCNJ, in fact we're going there for an accepted students campus visit on Sunday. I can't imagine how those kids living in the dorms feel, and his family must be frantic.

I didnt hear about the NYC connection. They think he might have cut himself and then took off for NYC?Wonder if he put the blood in the dumpster to throw people off his trail?
buddy & wooz- it is a safe area, I graduated from there and cant even recall any crime scares.
Also, just a side note, unless things have really changed, it is one of the "tamer" schools as far as partying is concerned.Alot of kids go home on weekends.

I understand how upsetting it is to hear something bad may have happened at a place where your child may end up living. But, please do not allow one situation make you feel uncomfortable about the safety of a college. Even if a crime was committed, in this situation, that does not mean the campus is unsafe. Crime can happen anywhere, anytime.

Look at their overall safety record. The vast majority of college students are safe and have not experienced any crime in their years away at college.

Thanks for the reassurances. I don't feel that the campus is any less safe than any other campus, in fact I'm actually pretty laid back about my son going away to school, much more so than many of my friends. I guess it just hit close to home, made me think about things no parent wants to think about, no matter where their kids go to school.

We're still going to the campus visit on Sunday. TCNJ is one of two schools my son is considering, and there are issues other than an independant tragic incident that he'll base his decision on. I'll talk to him a bit more about it though, I'd hate for him to not chose the school out of misplaced fear (although I don't think he would.)

They were just holding a press conference on the campus, so far all I've heard is that they do suspect that he was killed.

My brother gets emails from there (since he daughter attended) and he said there is a GIRL missing also, but it's believe that she ran away. Has anyone else heard this?

Yes, a girl is missing but the family said she was having emotional issues.

I just heard on the news that they suspect he was thrown down the garbage chute into the compactor. I felt like throwing up. I hope that if that's what happened he was so drunk that he didn't know what was happening. I thought this was just a rumor until I heard it on the radio news. Sickening.

Trying to get this image out of my mind, but if that's what happened wouldn't there be, um, "evidence"?

The thought of my child suffering and dying that way truly horrifies me.

I am not sure what kind of compactor it is, but if it is compacted, put into the dumpster and taken to the dump, the final "evidence" is probably at the dump.

A prank gone bad, maybe? I wonder if people will start talking.

I hope so badly this is not what happened to this young man. Sometimes I just cannot believe the things one human being will do to another as if they are of no value. It makes me feel sick to my stomach to think about it.

They are searching the landfills now. I too pray that this is not what happened. I have two sons away at college and I cannot believe that this could happen to someone else's son. It makes me physically ill to even believe what is happening.

My DD and DS attend Clearview Highschool where John graduated from last year. My daughter knows his sister, they are both freshman. I also know John's brother and sister from when I worked in the school. Very nice kids. This is such horrible news. It's almost like there is a curse on the Clearview school. This has been a terrible year for students there. Since the beginning of the school year we have had two students die in car accidents and another in a car crash but thankfully he survived. Now this. I just read about the case again today in the Gloucester County Times. It doesn't sound good, but lets just hope he is found safe.

we have to know each other where did your kids go to grade school

yes this is very upsetting my ds is friends with his sister and also played hockey with his brother (my son is now at another school for high school) I have known the mom since grade they are such a nice family

Did they find blood in the dorm room, too, or solely in the dumpster?
In my heart of hearts - having done four years of dorm life and witnessing some of the things that even brilliant kids do - I wonder if he was drunkenly horsing around and went down the trash chute headfirst.

The last I heard is that they expected that it could take weeks to search the landfills and the one they were first searching isn't the one they expected to find a body. Don't know why they were searching that one first, but I'm assuming they had their reasons. Again, it's heartbreaking to even think what his family must be going through.

Hmmmmm I thought the tullytown landfill they were searching now is where they expect to find the clues this is from a news article "State police Captain Al Della Fave says officials now believe trash from a dumpster outside John Fiocco Junior’s dorm only went to the Tullytown landfill in Pennsylvania."

At first they thought it went to two landfills but it looks like they now believe the trash from the dorm is only at the one they are searching now.

Hopefully they will find something soon. I think they are about halfway through the pile they are searching.

Could be--I hadn't heard that, but that could have been more recent that what I'd last heard.

So sad. :( I had heard that it was pretty certain that it was a body that they were looking for and just a matter of time. I just can't even imagine what a nightmare this has been for everyone involved. It's torn up so many people and is so senseless.
