My wife and I returned late Tuesday night from our trip that ran from 12/2 - 12/10 . Overall a very enjoyable trip that was marred only by the way information was given to us by Disney in regards to HS and ROTR opening procedures . We knew it would probably be a long wait in line to get on this highly anticipated attraction and were ready to do so . Park hours for HS on 12/5 (ROTR opening day) were 8am- 10pm . We arrived at the HS parking toll booths at 8:49am and were told by the CM there that access to/for ROTR was already gone for the day (HS closed at 10:00pm that night) . As we pulled away and entered the parking lot I told my wife that can't be true ...they're not using FP+ so I don't know what she could mean . As we approached bag check outside the park we saw the 1st of many signs we would see that day advising all that all boading groups for ROTR for the day had been filled and that was the only way to ride the attraction . While waiting to ride ST I decided to check MDE app for information about ROTR and discovered that boarding groups were still available ...so I clicked on "Join boarding group"and was assigned group 152 ! Fast forward to about 8:30pm , after seeing F! I checked my phone to see what the status of the boarding groups was. It was then that I recieved the message informing me that they were sorry but they would not be getting to my boarding group and that for the inconvenience they were giving us FP to ride ROTR tomorrow 12/6 as well as one day PH passes . A very nice offer but we already had plans that we did not want to change . So at the end of the night we stopped at Guest Relations to verify that the FP for ROTR had to be used the next day or if they could allow us to use them on Sunday 12/8 when we would be back at HS . A very nice Guest Relations supervisor told me that they could not switch the FP to 12/8 , that they would have to be used tomorrow if we wanted to use them . She then went on to tell me that she talked personally to an Imagineer who had worked on the ride who told her himself that that wasn't possible to do . I told her that doesn't make sense ...the ride has nothing to do with how guests are put in line for the attraction . She maintained that it just wasn't possible . I then asked her when people were let into the park and when were rides open . She said she'd have to check because she didn't come in to work until after 7:00am and wasn't sure . She then went to ask someone and came back and told me she thinks people were first let into the park around 6:30 as a safety matter but that rides weren't open until a while later ...probably close to the 8:00am scheduled park opening time . After leaving the park , back in our room I checked several unofficial WDW websites and confirmed what I thought...people had been let into the park about an hour earlier than what I was told and that several rides were open and running at about 6:30am...much earlier than I was told . Jump ahead now to Saturday night 12/7 about 5:45pm and my wife and I are in AK when I get a message that EMH for 12/8 at HS has been extended by an extra hour 6 -8am and reguar park hours had changed from 9am to 8am . After finishing our day at AK we went back to our resort and stopped at the food court before going back to our room . There we saw signs posted advising guests about the hour changes and reminding us that ROTR was not available during EMH and it also implied that ROTR boarding groups would not be available to join until regular park hours began (8am) . A CM also handed out fliers with the same information on it . Sunday morning 12/8 I arrived at HS at about 6:45am and immediately opened the app and tried to join a boarding group . The app would not allow anyone to join a boarding group yet so I went and rode TOT ...all the while refreshing the app and attempting to join , to no avail , a boarding group . I moved on to RNR where I again tried in vain to join a boarding group ...until at 7:15am , 45 minutes prior to offficial park opening time , right before I boarded my "stretch limo" I was able to secure boarding group 6 ! Forgot to mention that I talked to two different CM's ,after first entering the park, who were giving out information about joining boarding groups for ROTR, that no one would be able to join a boarding group until official park opening at 8:00am . At the end of the day I went back to guest relations again and told them that I was disappointed and angry that Disney was intentionally lying to their resort guests as well as misleading and misinforming us . That Disney integrity apparently was out the window . Tuesday morning when checking out at our resort I spoke with a supervisor at the resort to again express my feelings regarding the way we had been mistreated , misinformed , and lied to . I asked for the name and address of the person who is the President of the WDW resort . This "Supervisor" struggled to think of the name and would not or could not give me an address or email to write to them .

Yes. It kind of worries me to the point I may just give SWGE a comlete miss- ride wise. I'm going in February and dont feel like going to the park by Lyft extra early and then changing my entire schedule to ride RotR. I'm not so much a StarWars fan as a new ride fan. In fact, I've been trying to catch up on the movies but just not sparking my interest. This whole deal of changing park hours. People are planning their trips months in advance. I'm lucky(or not) in that I'm a solo traveller so no other people to worry about. I'm sorry that Tron isn't yet ready.

Wow... What a debacle! Did you finally get to ride in boarding group 6 on Sunday morning? As I was reading, I was worried another obstacle was going to thwart your attempts to ride Sunday morning. Sounds like a world of unnecessary stress on vacation. It’s too bad that they can’t come up with a more transparent and logical system.

Don’t see Josh’s email anywhere but here you go, it’s probably easily guessed:

Robert Iger
CEO
robert.a.iger@disney.com

Bob Chapek
Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
Robert.Chapek@disney.com

Josh D’Amaro
President of Walt Disney World

George Kalogridis
Former President of Walt Disney World

george.kalogridis@disney.com

George’s office was pretty good about getting responses out, not sure about Josh hopefully he’s at least on par.

I agree that you were misinformed, I disagree that you were lied to. Disney has tens of thousands of CMs. There is no way all of them can have up to the minute information. A better explanation is that Disney planned what was on the announcements and told to you by the CMs but made last-minute changes for safety and security reasons.

We were there as well, staying at CBR. We were told at the CBR Skyliner station by Skyliner personnel that the Skyliner would open at 8:00 am so we got up early and took an Uber. Came to pass the Skyiner started running at 6:30. All told we had a great time anyway.

Over the years I have been given a lot of misinformation by CMs regarding all kinds of things; bus times, capacity closures, menu items, character locations... It is unfortunate but it happens.

I am sorry you had this happen. I hope it did not take away from enjoying your ride on Rise of the Resistance.

My wife and I both rode on Friday but only I rode on Sunday...unbelievable game changing attraction...or should I say experience .

More than just a ride...it's an experience . Try if you can to experience this attraction .

Josh would be the same format as those other emails.

I want to point out that Disney didn’t lie about the boarding groups. The boarding groups were announced the day of on the Disney Parks Blog.

Disney also doesn’t intentionally advertise opening the park ahead of the scheduled time because they don’t want people to show up even earlier. Some attractions were open but not the entire park.

You arrived at the park at 8:49am! Almost 1 hour past the posted opening time for a highly anticipated ride.

Would you have felt the same way if you had been turned away from an actual line for the ride? Because if there had been one, you still never would have gotten on RotR. All the people who had taken the BGs were already in the park before you, and had there been a physical line, they would all have been in it already.

I was there that day. Drove over from CSR at 3:30am.

Yes , and knew, as I said that I expected to wait in a long line to ride . Also realized that there was a chance we would not be able e to ride that day . What upset me was being misinformed and lied to .

But you knew what the posted opening time was and still chose to arrive 49 minutes later. A solid RD strategy for a normal operating day at a wdw park requires that a guest be there 1-1.5hr before. You arrived well after the posted time for the opening of a new ride. I could almost understand where you were coming from if you had shown up at 7am. Or even 8, which was the official opening time. But if you had, you would have gotten a boarding group. They were still available until about 8:20ish.

we got a boarding group , no thanks to the information Disney was giving out both by CM's and on signs posted throughout the park . Add to that the fact that they failed to inform resort guests or anyone for that matter in advance , many who came and stayed on Disney property , that they would be using a boarding group system instead of a regular standby line .

True , but they could have and should have told people in advance about having to join boarding groups in order to possibly ride the attraction .

They didn’t give advance notice on opening day of SWGE when they initiated boarding groups for that either.

You think 12/5 is Disney's fault, and I think it's your own.

The only day since the opening of RotR that I fault Disney is the day of morning EMH. That was handled poorly. However, you got to ride that day, and got an early BG.

So you're upset because you got a free one day park hopper and got to ride RotR? Seems like it actually worked out quite well for you.

The more I hear about the new rides in SWGE the more I am glad I am not interested. The falcon thing sounds too complicated and the new 'R' thing sounds long. Maybe in a couple years we'll b able to walk on, asking to be an engineer on the Falcon and an emergency exit when I get bored on the 'R' thing.

If it was me I'd kinda give WDW a pass. It was the first week of operation of probably the most complex, in demand ride in history. They gave an opening date and they stuck to it. But I wonder if they had the choice if they would have pushed it back. Your first HS day you didn't get to ride, but received a FP and free 1 day ticket i think was pretty good compensation. I get you had plans, but if I had a 10 day trip no matter what I had planned the next day...I'd spare a few hours to go and ride it.

I've been to WDW >25 times in the last 20 years. I've made a few complaints. I hope your intentions of secondary complaints are for feedback and not fishing for ADDITIONAL compensation...as I don't think it's warranted.

Hopefully your future trips go more smoothly.
