I was looking @ the food pics, which I must say make me happy we are booked for WDW. I was noticing some people have ordered a milkshake as the beverage :goofy:instead of soda w/ no extra charge. Can you still do this & where? Only with meals on the DDP, correct?

I did this last year at the 50s Prime Time at DHS (we were on the DDP).One of the best shakes I've had in a long time.

We did at 50's PT and Sci Fi at DHS. We were also able to get the smoothies at the restaurants that had them on the menu as well for our drink on the DDP.

Is this anywhere or just HS?? How about Le Celier?I know that pp&j shake looks good from 50s. But i saw u could oder 1 to go. I don't want todo 50 or sci just b/c we have done these before. So this time we wanna try something new.

I know you can get milkshakes as your beverage at 50's prime time, Sci Fi, WCC, and the Plaza. not sure about anywhere else. But you may not want dessert, if you are on DDP. But the shakes are so good. 50's PT and SciFi will let you do a milkshake for your dessert, that way you can get a regular soft drink and still have the awesome milkshakes. Never tried at the other locations.

I had the milkshake at WCC as my beverage....so I thought. They counted it as my dessert credit and had not given me a soda as a beverage. This was July 2010. Maybe my server charged the credits incorrectly? I have no idea. But I didn't have a problem with it, as I didn't want dessert.

I thought that when you were on the DDP that you could get anything to drink except alcoholic beverages. This would mean at most places a milkshake would be allowed.

Exactly. How can you really have a shake & desert? Our bellies are only so big!:rotfl2: However I think Le Cellier has a strawberry chocolate shake that looks awesome!!

I did this at 50's Primetime, Sci-Fi, Whispering Canyon, Beaches & Cream and the Plaza Restaurant. Had a raspberry-chocolate smoothie as an included meal plan drink @ Le Cellier. It's a nice change from soda or lemonade.

On all of my meals, this was entered as my beverage, not as my dessert.

Yum! I'm excited! J/b this smoothie looks like the best thing on the menu to me & the cheese soup. Not big steak person but everyone in my party wants to go. So now I have something to look forward to, lol!!!

Yes at most places you can do this. If you are in doubt, just ask, although most waiters will explain the dining plan to you & what you can get, even if you don't ask them to.
But its techically not the same price. You won't be charged anything out of pocket, but it will increase your bill, which will increase the tip you would give, just as an fyi to you (say a soda is $2, but the shake is $5 -thats a $3 increase to the bill).

Not quite correct...it really depends on the restaurants. The dining plan specifies only "non-alcohol beverage"...it does not say "ANY non-alcohol beverage. The Disney-owned restaurants are the most flexible...allowing "virgin" drinks like no-alcohol pina-coladas, milkshakes, cappacino, etc.

But at the non-Disney owned restaurants (and there are quite a few of them!) you will find it's soda fountain coke products, tap water, regular coffee and regular iced tea(the instant kind found in soda fountains.) No shakes, no fancy coffee, no bottled water, no fancy tea.

Best advice, as other posters have suggested, is to always ask before you order. Thing is, as some posters have found, the server has no problem with you getting the specialty beverages...but if your waiter doesn't volunteer that the item is not covered you'll just get charged OOP for the drinks. This happened to us at several non-Disney restaurants (like Yak & Yeti and Via Napoli) before we caught on and asked before ordering.
