I slept nude or in just panties as a teen as did a lot of my friends. The photo could just as easily suggest being caught after just waking up. Alone.

Honestly how can you (or any of us) know just what the photo is supposed to suggest? What you see may be totally different than what the photographer saw when she took them.
What ever happened to artistic interpretation? I don't find these at all artistic but I'm sure some do.

I haven't read the whole thread but I saw a few pics in the paper, I really thought the solo shots were tasteful & artistic.
That said, I think the one I saw with her draped across her Dads lap was really wierd!

I personally don't think they are toooo bad and I'm very conservative when it comes to things like this (being a teacher and new mom makes you that way). But I wish she had waiting a few more years. It would have been nicer if she was 18.

On a similar note, those private pics of her that came out are too racy. Showing her bra just makes me sad. But, what do you expect. She's a celebrity robot.

Now to me, glamorizing young celebrity pregnancy is worrisome. My students don't need any encouragement in that dept. They already come from young mothers and I'd hate for them to get the impression its "really cool" from the media too!

I agree. She's only 15 and -- if she's a normal kid -- is naive and easily persuaded, "Oh, this'll look great." Whatever adult was with her, however, should've known better.

The only photograph I saw was not attractive -- it was much "too old" for a 15-year old, especially a 15-year old with a fan base of 'tweens.

I thought she looked sad, not provocative. To me, she does not have a flirty or come-hither look in her eyes. If the pose is meant to be provocative, you can tell in her eyes that she isn't that comfortable with it. To me, for it to have been provocative, she would have had a different kind of look in her eyes-like Tyra is always telling the models on Top Model. She just doesn't look engaged with the camera. Also, I think they are terrible pictures- she looks pale, and that lipstick does nothing for her!

I've stated it earlier - I think they knew what they were doing, knew what the fallout would be, and knew how they would then react. So yeah. Come on - we have seen this played out over and over - nothing new and nothing shocking in their plan (as in the plan to get attention, etc....I can see where people see the young age as shocking FYI)or their reactions.

Now that you mention it, yes, that's really it. In a way that's what I think someone else was getting at, earlier, in the reference to the icon graphic for Les Miserables.

and what that "suggests" is subjective (isn't that the point of art???) ...some will read sex into it, others may see a young girl waking alone in the morning.....(and, as always doesn't this say more about those who immediately assume "sex????) Either way - just because it is your take, does not make it the only take......

I posted a board about this on the Teen Board to see what reactions it would get from proclaimed Miley fanatics, and I was kind of surprised that the general concensus was that the photos were inappropriate, no one really stepped up to defend Miley, which was surprising considering there are tons of Miley fans on the TB.

Anyways, my 2 cents.

Disney's statement really bugs me, about how she was manipulated.
Sure 15 is young, but I was only 15 four years ago so I remember where my head was at that point, and trust me, 15 year old girls are alot more intelligent than some people give them credit for. She knew exactly what she was doing, and I'm sure there wasn't too much 'manipulation' involved.

THe radio station I was listening to this morning was pretty much blaming everyone BUT Miley, and I think the blame lies (not solely, but mostly) on her.

Obviously Leibovitz was taking a risk in asking her to remove her shirt (or pull it down, or whatever is going on under that blanket) But she's an artist, and a contraversial one at that, I don't think that she thinks the same way as the general public. To her I'm sure she was taking an artistic portrait, but to us...it's just wrooong.

Miley JUST had to make apology for some other racy (private) pics, she shouldn've known better than to do this.

Precisely. And that is why I find the attacks on the artist, for example, so troubling. She gets to determine what her intention was. It isn't anyone else's place to impose an intention on her, because they chose to be offended by her work.

She was draped all over him, pouting and giving seductive looks I don't see how that's appropriate, artistic or even normal It was just plain weird and for Billy Ray to have anything to do with it shows that he's more of a stage dad than he makes himself out to be. Anything for some publicity, right?

Anyway, what amazes me more than anything is the fact that there are grown men spending their time fighting to defend a half-naked fifteen year old girl on a random Disney message board

To be fair, I doubt many people here are here to defend Miley Cyrus -- she doesn't need much defending in any case.

What you see here is people defending an artist's (Annie Leibovitz) freedom of expression and to do her work, and/or a parent's right to choose what is best for their child versus a parent's responsibility to impose good moral discretion on their child's activities, etc. And I'm posting to object to what I consider gross over-reactions, that are indicative of over-reactions that are rampant in our society, and that I believe are very destructive, leading up to an including reducing the quality of people willing to run for President.

These are things that are very important to discuss.

um, I can't speak for the "men" - but from my view, no one is defending a half naked, etc, etc...... I see PEOPLE discussing an ISSUE!

The two arguing back and forth are grown men so I just found it pretty ironic Either way, I normally love Annie's work and I don't find her to be at fault here. I didn't think the picture's were artistic or even attractive but if that's what Miley's "handlers" think is bes for her, then more power to em. Anyway, PEOPLE go back to discussing your ISSUE
