Mickey's So Long Summer Cruise 2.0

OK...this will be my first time booking a cruise while on board, so want to do this the right way....for certain it will be a dummy cruise I am booking, as I don't have plans to cruise next year...plus the prices of the cruises are too high for me, so would think that I would move this to when they announce 2013 cruises, or if they ever did a kids sail free offer.

So-- I am guessing that it is best for me to book the cheapest cruise. There are 5 of us.
what about booking the December 2011 kids sail free offer for the mexican riveria? do you think It is better for me to book one room for the 5 of us, or 2 rooms?

Any advice?

I always rebook on board to get the 10% discount and OBC.

Tell the DCL agent you want a dummy date. They use December.

Price will be based on 5 in one cabin.

But, you can book a room for 1 and pay the deposit on that. Then add four family members down the road. Or just pick your favorites to sail with you and leave the others home.

Take the dummy date and push, push, push until you find something you want. This cruise we're going on I booked on the MSLSC in 2009. I hold reservations like playing cards.

In my opinion I would price an inside room for the kids and one across the hall for the adults. Then price a room for five. Do the math and see what works best for you.

Tomorrow will be our 2 week mark...time to start packing!

....besides the booze, what is on everyone's "Don't forget to pack list?"

What do you mean I have to pack things besides the booze???? I thought this was a :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1 cruise??!!!

Some of favorite things to pack:

Shoes, shoes and more shoes. Just in case some one on board needs to borrow a pair.

Bandaid Friction stick. Just in case any of those shoes hurt my feet.

Hot rollers and flat iron. Need I say more? We're in the caribbean.

Surge protector... obviously to plug in the hot rollers and 8 Apple gadgets.

Four handbags... gotta match the shoes.

Beach safe. Yeah, I don't go anywhere without that little gem. That bag has safely protected $50,000 worth of jewelry over the years. Oh of course, not all mine! LOL I swear!!!

Wrap everything I own in plastic... you know my history with soggy luggage.

Pack a few things for the family. I hear clothes are a requirement. I hope they buy their own suitcases. I'm approaching four!

Don't forget your luggage scale:thumbsup2 Don't want to give those airlines any extra money:)

In my sad world the luggage scale was at the top of the packing list.

We learned the hard way about not having a luggage scale....last year when we went to universal, our bag was a few pounds over and had to scramble to move things around in our suitcases....we will have a luggage scale with us, too!!

Don't forget the wet & spray sun tan lotion. Boy can that Bahamas sun can burn you if your not careful.

good idea....I bought some aerosol cans of sunscreen....and I will never buy them again. The nozzle clogs all the time and then you can't use them any more....think will will go for some trigger sprays:thumbsup2

...never would have thought about a beach safe! If I had one, DH store a beer in it:lmao:

What evening before the cruise (Saturday - Monday) do you think would be the best night at MK to see the Main Street Electrical Parade:confused3

I'm thinking Sunday night since Florida kids go back to school on that Monday:thumbsup2

Any thoughts?

That is a really good idea! I didn't realize that the 15th was Florida's first day of school. :)

We're getting so close! I can't believe it. I don't feel prepared for this trip at all. I have so much packing to do. The list keeps getting longer and longer. I started packing, but I can't get serious!

What's everyones plans pre and post cruise?

We arrive Friday, the 12th. Staying at Wilderness Lodge. Doing WDW and Universal. Cruise (no brainer). Then back to Beach Club for a few days, we leave the 23rd.

HI All!
just back from a weekend at the beach...went to long beach, Long Island....it sure was a hot one! It was a great way to get acclimated to Florida weather, I guess!! Had a great time, and had fun while working on my tan!!

We will be in Florida on the 13th and will stay at CIS in Cocoa Beach-- Doing a beach day at Ron Jons and Kennedy Space Center. Post cruise we are just staying at a CIS near MCO and will head home on the 22nd.
I can't believe we only have 3 weeks left!

Trying to figure out what to wear for semi formal night.....

We come in on the 12th and may do a day or two at the parks. I use my timeshare which is 5 minutes from DW. We are dropping off the rental on Tuesday morning at the port and taking the shuttle for our 11:00 a.m. arrival time.

Coming straight home after the cruise so that oldest DD can move into her apartment for college.

I am so behind in this thread! Summer swim season is over so I can finally concentrate on our vacation.

We are also coming in on the 12th, we are doing Universal - staying at the Hard Rock for a few days, then moving over to Bay Lake Towers, Cruise, then AKV leaving the 28th - getting home with a week to spare before school starts :(

Quick note, my Mom had a TIA (mini stoke) Monday morning. Really scary! She had to be flown by helicopter to Albany Med. She's doing well. Never a dull moment! Oh Baby do I need this vacation!!!!

Nice to hear from you,Betty! The hard rock is a favorite spot for our family- we stayed there last year and had the best time! It really is the best hotel, as it is closest to the parks- you will have so much fun!!! As hard as it is for me to hear-- the kids say they liked universal more than disney.... they do have fun rides-- but the atmosphere does not compare IMO
