Welcome on board. We are first time cruisers as well and we don't have any kids so it will b just DH and me. Well, I say we are first time cruisers, but by the time the Wonder sails this is no longer true as we are also going on the September 1st cruise on the Magic. In that respect I am a little bit worried about what is brewing out there at the moment. As long as we can sail, I am happy.

Corinna

Corinna  sorry, I keep forgetting you are cruising in one week!!!!!! I'll be praying for no storms for you!

Well I got a PM from Nancy (Hadjii) and her sister Sam will not be cruising with us on the 7th. She's so embarrassed but she is doing the land and sea and got confused on what part was the sea. She's so sorry if this messes up anybodies FE gifts.

Ok, it's 13 days until we sail and there's been no real decision about when and where to meet. Some of us will be at the Radisson before the cruise, so hopefully we can meet up around the pool that afternoon or evening. If you guys want to share cell phones, please either pm them to each other, or post them on the yahoo group (since it's private).

Our 'official' meet will be at 3pm by the Mickey pool on board. If you have anything dis green to wear (LGMH, lime green mickey heads work great) for either having a tag or something identifying yourself as a fellow Diser.

If you are not sure what the LGMH are, they are paint chips from Home Depot in Alien Green. They are shaped like Mickey.

Hi,

Just to clarify, 3pm on Sunday??

Thanks!!!!

Another question for everyone.......when are you guys starting to deliver Fish Extender Gifts? Sunday or Monday?

Thanks again!!

Welcome Opie! I love your name. hehe

Corinna I'll pray for good weather for you. I am actually more conerned about getting sick  before we go since I know they won't let you board with any symptoms of anything.

I'm sorry Nancy and Sam won't be cruising with us. No worries with the FE. Nice to know I have extra things just in case. ;)

3pm, Mickey pool, T-minus 13 days. :)

Dale you are SO funny. I don't know where you get the orginality!

I bought some more stuff for the FE today. I am debating about one more thing so I might or might not be finished. hehe

Yes, 3pm Sunday :)

I am personally delivering mine on Sunday but I know some others are delivering things throughout the cruise. It is up to your personal preference. Whatever works for you! :wizard:

ok, 3pm...Mickey Pool on Sunday...check. Home Depot trip...check...guess if I want someone to know who I am I better add those paint swatches to my MUST have list before we leave...lol. Other wise I will just be looking for others with the DIS green on and go from there...lol. I am getting so excited!:cloud9:

Yea, I guess it's official!!!! We are meeting at 3pm on Sunday by the Mickey pool. I have some extra LGMH for those meeting at the Radisson (if you don't have any, just let me know so I'll make sure to have enough).

Now that I've been back for two days, all the laundry's washed, and I've caught up on my sleep, I guess I have no excuse for not writing my trip report. Sorry, time, there will be no pictures unless you want to see my hottie friend Maria in almost every shot, and since there is no reason to lead all our male thread friends into the temptation of impure thoughts about a woman other than their own significant other, no pictures. I take that back. Some time, but not right now, I'll upload a few pictures. Please excuse any errors such as run-ons, tense changes, or spelling errors.

As you know, my invitation to accompany my friend to California was issued on very short notice. (This isn't strictly true because she asked me months ago, but at that time she didn't know exactly when we would be going.) The timing, for the most part, couldn't have been better since all the males of the family would be at Boy Scout camp, and both my sister and my mother-in-law were available (and eager) to have my daughter come visit. The only things on my schedule were to make my FE, buy the goodies, and work on lesson plans for the school year. All responsibilities that could be postponed to last-minute. Oh, and my mother was in town but leaving on Saturday. So, I couldn't fly out with Maria on Thursday. I'd have to meet her on Sunday.

Day One - Sunday
I'm packed and ready to go. Even though I will only be gone for four days, I take a large suitcase. It's half-empty because I know I'll be bringing back more than I'm taking. My flight is at the civilized time of 11:30am. There's a transfer in Phoenix with a little lag time, but because I'm flying west, it will still be 3:30pm when I arrive. I leave home at 9:30am. There is no traffic, I get a good spot at the long-term parking, the shuttle arrives immediately, and there is practically no line at check-in or security. Maria has booked me a business class ticket, and I'm in boarding group A-3. This means two free drinks and my pick of seats on the plane. I choose a window seat. Someone who appears to not want conversation sits in the aisle seat and immediately opens a book. Good. I can read, sleep, or listen to my ipod and can enjoy being all by myself-something I rarely am. It doesn't work out that way. The plane is full. The middle seat is taken but all ends well. I don't get to read, sleep, or listen to my ipod, but I do enjoy conversation with a chatty, sociable graduate student who has lived in other countries, shares a lot about her life but not too much, and is very interesting to talk to. We arrived in Burbank on time but it took ages to get our luggage. It also took much longer than necessary to reach my rental car, but that was my fault for waiting for the shuttle in the wrong spot.

When I finally made it to the hotel in Pasadena (took an "ahem" unplanned route), Maria was there at the valet station to meet me. She couldn't hide (nor did she try) her horror at the white PT Cruiser I was driving. I explained to her that was all the agency had available in the "midrange" category. She got over it, and we went up to the room so I could freshen up for dinner.

Dinner was at the Cheesecake Factory because it was within walking distance of the hotel. Of course, so were a hundred other more exotic restaurants, but we weren't feeling adventurous. We both had lettuce wraps and a frozen mixed drink. Still on East Coast time biologically, we were asleep by 9:30pm.

Monday - Malibu, Santa Monica

Something I haven't shared prior to this post is the purpose of this trip to California. My friend is, God-willing, going to be a surrogate mother for a couple whose clinic is in Pasadena. Without going into the specifics of how she will be impregnated, I will explain that it requires she undergo close monitoring prior to the procedure. That's why she's here. As for why I'm here, it's part of her contract that she have a travel companion. Since her husband has to work and look after their children, I'm the lucky one. Actually, I'm not merely a guest taking advantage of a free trip to California. I have a job for which I am uniquely qualified to do. Not only am I her driver (she hates to drive) and her steadfast companion (she hates to be alone), I'm also a colleague in a way. I've already been a surrogate mother and I can relate to what she's going through.

Back to the trip report. We've planned a day trip to Malibu for after my friend's early morning monitoring appointment at the fertility clinic. So, I take her there and sit in the waiting room over an hour while she's “back there”. I should bring an apple or something to eat because I haven't had breakfast yet, and even an interesting magazine or listening to a book on my ipod can't stop the nausea and head achy discomfort of my low blood sugar. (I'm hypoglycemic, and I should know better).

We put off breakfast in order to get on our way to Malibu. I make due with a coffee that's mostly chocolate milk because that's the way I make my coffee. We're on the road, and the weather is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the smog makes it harder to see the canyons and vistas as clearly as we would like. Sooner than we expected, we've made our way to to the coastal highway. My friend has the advantage of not having to keep her eyes on the road, so she oohs and aahs at our first glimpses of the Pacific Ocean and the magnificent houses we pass. She snaps pictures as we move along the highway.

Close to noon, we stop at the Malibu Seafood Market for lunch. Good timing. They've just opened. If we'd gotten there any later, it's questionable as to whether there would be outdoor seating at which to eat our lunch. I'm so hungry I could just about grab a lobster out of the tank and eaten it alive. Everything on the menu has me drooling, but we decide to share some clams and mussels. My friend orders chowder and I get an Ahi tuna burger. Since the Market is across the road from the beach we both enjoy the sight and sound of crashing waves now.

After lunch, we're not quite ready to actually hit the beach. Too full. Since I've left the car adapter for the GPS back home, we decide to search for a store that would carry such a power cord. According to the dying GPS, there's a Walmart nine miles inland. We figure we'll get see the famous canyons up close as we drive through them and maybe some interesting houses. We get an eyeful of canyons and fascinating architecture as the nine mile journey stretches into thirty miles by the time we reach the address for the Walmart, discover it is now a Home Depot, second guess the actual location, drive around some more, give up and decide instead to visit some children's boutique in Callabas owned by a famous family that my friend read about and saw on a reality television show. We find the boutique. It's called Dash. There's nothing impressive about the store front or the interior décor, but the clothes are unique, amazing and horrendously expensive!! How does $65.00 sound for a tutu with a few spangles and sequins glued on it? A hand-knitted bikini for $120.00? My friend really wants some kind of souvenir from this store, so she buys a single barrette for her two year old daughter. A bargain at $10.00. With that out of the way, we head back to the coastal highway to do some sunbathing.

Beach time is in Santa Monica. We don't go to the famous pier but instead find a quiet, empty stretch of beach to flop down on. A little sunbathing, a little water, a little sun, then my friend admits she's really hungry. It's near dusk, so we head home. The GPS tells us there's a Whole Foods Store in Santa Monica. My friend and I LOVE Whole Foods, so we go there to pick up dinner. We're dumbstruck by the size of this store and the huge variety of just about everything- fruit, vegetables, octopus, sushi, wine, etc. I try to take pictures but one of the security guards stops me. Oh, duh me. I bet a lot of famous people shop here. I put the camera in my purse, but for the rest of the time I'm there, I'm followed by security. We leave with sushi, salads, wine, chips, salsa, breads, and spreads.

Silly me decides to take Santa Monica Boulevard westward instead of going back to the highway. As if rush hour doesn't hit the boulevard as hard as it does the highway. We crawl most of the way home, but at least my friend gets pictures of the palm tree lined streets, the street signs, and we eat dinner as we inch westward. Back at the hotel, my friend watches television while I get online and plan a trip to Venice Beach for the next day. Once again, we're asleep by 9:30 or 10pm.

We'll, it's my bedtime. I'll write more tomorrow night.

Welcome to Opie and his dw. Sorry to hear about Nancy. I guess I wasn't making the connection about Corinna going on the 1st either. I was wondering why she was going on about the Magic. Duh, me! I will pray the weather cooperates!

Hi everyone!! I went and got some more goodies for the FE today! I hope I'm not going overboard but I love this kind of stuff! I also got my kiddos some pirate costumes. They decided they would just use them for Halloween too so it worked out great.

By the way, does anyone know if you can change your username? My husband originally signed up on here and he is a runner but I would prefer something a little more personalized!

I am all about sneaking my doggie on board! We have a french bulldog that is about 12 weeks old and he is my new baby! I am going to miss him!

I'm also all about line dancing LOL!! We are from Oklahoma!! Yee HAW!!!:dance3:

Hey everyone!!!! Just wanted to wish our early vacationers safe travel with getting to orlando/DCL without any issues! As for FE stuff, I've been so busy getting packed working 75+ hrs weeks and trying to get on here as much as possible I think I might need a recap...we are +1 for the new person (miller1600) which by the way I'm your neighbor on board. Its just me and my DW we got married last year and went on the Wonder for our honeymoon, same cabin and will be having our 1st anniversary on board in the same cabin as well. It was really quiet last year, we are located just past the forward elevators and the last hallway that cuts across the ship...so less foot traffic!!! Also makes it easier for the mandatory drill to get to the lifeboats as there is a stairwell to get to deck 4 (Helpful hint). And we are also -1 because of someone listing on the wrong trip...so I guess since everyone is getting the same gift creation from my DW and I we will remove one tag and put on another :-).

As for the questions I've been seeing the past couple pages about times for opening and closing of different things on the ship...the best advice I can give from being a past cruiser and for those embarking on their first Wonder-ful journey...use http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-stateroom-navigator.htm these show you the times events are running through the cruise for each day and what day which event happens...Kind of a sneak peak if you will. The back page of the navigators have what resembles a TV timetab from your local newspapers that is subdivided into kids by age group, adults, couples, etc.. trying to make the cruise events easy to find for each group. also on Deck 3 (the same level you enter the ship on) the entertainment district featuring Wavebands, Cadillac Lounge, and Diversions are all full of entertainment besides the Adult coffee bar after the kidos go to bed. The gift stores are only open at sea as they are duty free shops and can only be duty free if they are in the open waters. On our cruise last year for pirate night you saw a pirate for everyone...some went with just the bandana that Disney provides with your keepsake pirate menu...and others went all out in their Halloween Best....its totally up to you but you will see the "Big Kids" get into just as much as the little ones...On formal night (no need to bring a tux...lol not that formal unless u want it to be...) the characters will all be in the lobby for pictures in their formal attire...was really awesome last year to see them all dressed to the nines!!! I hope this info may help if you have any questions feel free to email me or ask in here i'm sure someone else has a great answer as well...next stop Home depot...do those things come pre cut or do we need to use some scissors?

Tony,

I cut around the edge of the mickey head but you can almost peal them off (but then they are real thin). I am goign to laminate some this week (or next) in all my free time, lol. That way, you can punch a hole in them and hang them from your bag or something.

ok...time for the morning trip countdown....in two weeks at this time we will be docking at Castaway Cay...anyone doing any shore excursions here? DM, DS and I are renting bikes but that's all I know so far. I would like to snorkel but I guess we will have to see what time permits. I am just looking forward to getting my toes in the sand here and my feet in the water!! If you are familiar with the Jersey Shores (which my family has been going to all my life) then you will know what a treat that crystal blue water will be for us!!

This weekend, as a matter of fact, DS and I are heading to Cape May for the Labor Day holiday...well part of it. I am leaving DS with my parents and hubby and I are getting Saturday night and Sunday all to ourselves!! YEAH! Then can you believe it after the holiday it will be less than a week to go!!

To all the early travellers, have a safe trip and I must say I am extremely jealous you are on your way!!

Christina,

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the beach.

Now that I've been back for two days, all the laundry's washed, and I've caught up on my sleep, I guess I have no excuse for not writing my trip report.

Monica,

Can't wait to read more. Sounds like you and Maria had a nice time. I would LOVE to see the Pacific some day. And you definately have to post some pics (even if your 'hot' friend is in them, lol).

Opie, why did you have to post that site, now I am checking it out to see these other storms 'brewing' and praying they all disappear!!!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

pjstevens-sorry, but now everyone knows what I'm looking at every morning and afternoon! Just think of it as "fellowship in suffering" ;) and I agree-just getting away for a week will be great-even if it's not sunny weather the entire time!

Well, I got all of my FE's done at work. My boss actually came in and asked what I was doing w/ everything all over my desk. I told her I was multitasking. I'm still debating about one other item...time is running out...so we'll see.

Monica, I love your trip report so far. I thought of being a serrogant mother before. That is truly a wonderful thing to do!

Corinna, I am monitoring the new hurricane very closely. In our area (hurricane central) we are getting updates every 3 hours. It looks like this system should not cause much of a problem for you by the time you set sail. It is currently forcasted to cut across the gulf and hit Mexico/ Texas. The only thing I could see that maybe would affect your cruise is rough seas and perhaps downpours on and off depending on where the hurricane is at the time and the feeder bands coming through.

For the rest of us....so far so good in the tropics department. Let us keep our fingers crossed!!:goodvibes

As for excursions on CC. We have bikes rented and I did the escape package for myself. That way I can get snorkel gear (the boys are bringing their own) and I figured the boys could share the tube. I currently have the ecotour scheduled for Chris and I but I will probably have to cancel that as our funds took a major hit (my boy's father has decided to stop paying child support.:headache: ) so if something miracleous does not happen by Sept then I'll cancel that. I'll probably just rent a sea kyack for a 1/2 hour (I read that is $10) just so I can get Christopher up close to the Flying Dutchman (he is a HUGH "Pirates of the Carribean" fan!!). Chris has been wanting to ride on a wave runner and go kyaking so either one I'm sure will be fine. Not like there won't be enough to do on the CC anyway. :)

Monica, i'm a little attention deficit:scared: think you could give me the readers digest condensed version? Say under a million words:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Just busting on you:banana: Keep up the good work. Oh i'm a little offended:laughing: that you would think that us males are not mature enough to look at a picture of a hottie with out have impure thoughts. Does she have nice legs? :woohoo:
