Hey DISers, I will be going to for the first time in the Fall. I'd like to know if I should avoid the Swinging version of Mickey's Fun Wheel. If you've been on it, please let me know how it was. Thanks!

Terrifying. I don't get motion sickness, nor am I typically a ride wimp, but I AM afraid of heights. The sensation of falling was absolutely the worst, and I won't be riding it again. Non-swinging I can do.

It was so much fun! And thankfully didn't affect my DH prone to motion sickness. Scarier than we expected though :) We liked it but it is a once and done ride - nothing we would make a huge effort to re-ride.

It's pretty intense...especially right before you get off, but it is no worse than most of the other thrill rides. If you are afraid of heights it might be a bit unnerving.

If you like the "big" fair rides then I would do it... We love tilt a whirl and the like and my dd and I were fine on it, thought it was fun. DH can't even do the octopus, so the wheel of death scared him and made him nauseous.

We love it, but it is a thrill ride. I don't think my brother-in-law was too happy with it.

There's two rides I will not ride in California Adventure: Mickey's Hell Wheel and California Screaming For Your Life. I've ridden the Hell Wheel only once and it was the scariest thing I have ever done.

(California Screaming For Your Life was another misfortune - I went on it and ended up almost blacking out after the ride. I had to go to the Disney Hospital after and rest - but it was neat to see the backside of the park and hang out with the nurses)

We did it once, non swinging car. It was neat then because they were building CarsLand and we got a birds eye view. Will I ride it again? NOPE!! My kids won't ride it either. They hated it.

It didn't do much for me. I had expected it to be scarier based on reviews but I've been on way scarier rides at other theme parks.

I would ride it if there wasn't a long line but wouldn't go out of my way to do it.

We made the mistake of doing he swinging car first. Lol. My then 6 year old was terrified as was I but I was trying to put on a brave front for her. I am afraid of height so I don't k ow what possessed me to think this would be fun. We did the non swinging one later on in the trip which was much better. It was actually nice to see the park from above. I didn't get to appreciate the view at all in the swinging car. Lol..

My dd's did it (I refuse), both are prone to motion sickness and neither got to sick. One felt a little iffy for 20 minutes or so after. They were screaming so loud I could hear it well from the pier :)

I got a bit nauseous and very anxious just watching the swinging gondolas from the ground. No way would I ever get on that thing.

My DH took our 2 youngest kids on a non-swinging, but both he and my fearless DD want to do the swinging.

I am afraid of heights, and I hated it. I won't go on it again. The fixed cars seem even more scary to me because they are higher up! Despite me telling him to keep quiet, my hubby can't help but tease me about it. I told him he is only going to make our kid think there is something to be afraid of if he keeps pointing out how mom is scared. Now my kid thinks she is afraid of heights. >:( Thanks, smarty pants. I encouraged him to take her w/out me a bazillion times, and to not make a big deal about me. Now she thinks it's a scary ride.

Because irrational fears are irrational, I LOVE the Tower of Terrifically Fun Times, and I really enjoy CA Screaming. I hate the hill climb on all roller coasters, but love everything else. I think I don't have a problem w/ ToT because it is in an "elevator shaft" that isn't entirely open to the outside. Even when the doors open, the outside is several feet away. I won't go on similar rides that are out in the open.

I was clueless when we went on it (hadn't found disboards yet) and took our 9 month old baby. I can't believe there isn't a height restriction on the swinging version. The entire time I was freaking out and asking DH this is safe for babies?!?

If you like thrill rides, go for it.

Otherwise, forget it re: the swinging cars. We don't call it Mickey's Fun Wheel of Death here on the DIS Boards for nothin'! :rotfl:

We went on a swinging gondola once with my sister. She got extremely motion sick (didn't actually "get sick" but felt awful the whole ride). I was so focused on her that I didn't notice the ride much at all. Then I went on again with just my DH and two boys. I started feeling nauseous. DH decided the height and unpredictable swinging was too much for him. Oldest DS said never again. Youngest DS loved it. Now we only go on the non-swinging gondolas. It's a nice, gentle ride and you get a great view of both parks, the hotels, and the whole surrounding area. It was especially cool when Carsland was being built. We do it at least once per trip. It was awfully cold up there in December! Youngest DS loved it when my brother joined us on a trip because he's up for any thrill ride. They swung while the rest of us chose the tamer option. Even my almost-90 year old dad enjoys the ride (non-swinging, of course!).
