Mickey's Fun Wheel, Ride or Not?

This is the only ride I have ever puked on. And, coincidentally it is the only ride I have seen in the park where they provide puke bags… so this is something to consider…

Really? Puke bags? Wow...I haven't ridden this yet. But, I was planning to during my next trip in October. Even though it looks absolutely terrifying.

I'm so impressed by how many people here like the swinging gondolas. I figured it has to do with it that some of us have an extreme fear of falling and others are ok with it, as long as they know they're safe. The intellectual knowledge doesn't help me at all; it's just extremely terrifying for me and no fun at all. It's not motion sickness, just extreme, unstoppable, horrible fear for my life. I don't do Tower of Terror either...

I hated the swinging cars and wanted off so bad... then the ride messed up and bypassed us getting off and we had to go around again. My husband thought it was worth it as we got one of those free any ride fast passes... I didn't think it was worth it and insisted on a nice safe ride that didn't leave the ground so if the ride broke worst case we would just get walked off... so we went with TSM

How many times did you go around? You are supposed to go around twice- once with a lot of start/stops while they load all the carts, and once with no interruptions. I have had the interruptions happen sometimes on the first loop around and sometimes on the second loop around.

My DH HATES this ride and prefers not to ride it. He doesn't like a lot of rides, though. My 11y/o dd also prefers not to ride, but usually will 1x per visit. My 13 y/o and 5 y/o LOVE it. It is one of my 5 y/o's favorites- he just laughs and giggles the entire time. We went 3x in a row last time we were there. It certainly is an experience like no other ride I've been on, but I don't think it is nearly as bad as a lot of people say. It is fun, and thrilling. We love it!

I am so glad I found this thread. I had no idea... We totally would have done the swinging version. DIS Boards, you saved me from myself!

The Wheel of Death is the only ride I have ever been scared on! I only refuse to do 3 rides on Disney Property, Mission to Mars (motion sickness), Goofy's Sky School (ouch!), and the Swinging Gondolas. The swinging just scares me. I love free fall rides (ToT is my fav and I like the one at Knotts) but the swinging is so unpredictable. I like the stationary side. I think it is the feeling like I am going to swing into the water is what gets me.

The swinging is really tough on my motion sickness but I'm good on the non-swinging ones. After saying that, we haven't been on it for some time because it takes so long (relatively) to complete - it feels like we are wasting time especially when the park isn't busy yet. But it would be good when it's super-busy elsewhere, a nice rest for the legs, great view (if you aren't concerned with the height), good way to end the day (especially with view), etc.

Hey DISers, I will be going to for the first time in the Fall. I'd like to know if I should avoid the Swinging version of Mickey's Fun Wheel. If you've been on it, please let me know how it was. Thanks!

Nope, nada, never again! I can ride just about any ride in Disneyland, except for the swinging gondolas. I have never felt so sick and I now know why they have little white bags in the ride. My son's and wife still kid me about it.

Yeah so we did the two and everyone was getting off then we were in the last set of cars and it didn't stop in the right spot it we should have been the first of the three cars and we went past the places to get off. and then they just had it keep going. But it wasn't going smoothly even though they weren't letting more people on. It would go for a bit then stop... so the swinging was even more erratic then before. Honestly worst disney ride experience ever and I probably will never go on the thing again.

I may have to try and find a youtube video of this, to see if DD will even go on it with me.

So, I am guessing that those who cant handle it have never been on The Zipper at county fairs/carnivals? I am thinking that this is somewhat similar, or maybe not...

This ride freaked me out and my 10 year old daughter cried on it! That said we do every other ride with absolutely no problem.,,

I'm glad I read this! My 4 year old son really wants to go on the wheel but it doesn't sound like a good idea for him (unless I can get us on the non-swinging gondolas).

I've never been on it. I would have gone on it, but my DH doesn't like those kind of rides. Hopefully, one of my daughters will want to ride it with me when we go in March. Glad you asked this question - interesting reading.

Just wanted to say, it seems like adults are much more bothered by this ride than little kids! My daughter has been riding this one since she was 4 and loves it. Sure, she screams like crazy, but it's all in fun. The adults tend to be the ones who get sick / scared on this ride, LOL.

Swinging car was the worst experience of my life! :eek:I am not afraid of heights, love roller coasters and all thrill rides. I can't recall ever riding anything that ever scared me. That was until my first trip to DL 2/15. My husband and I like to ride and make an effort to ride everthing, even all the kiddos ride. Well, we were apparently the first to load, so once we moved to the next position we started swinging to our death, or so I thought. It's terrifying! I was screaming bloody murder begging to get off. Then we got back down to the bottom and then the ride actually started. I now know what a panic attack feels like. Thank goodness I was on vacation because I didn't think twice about walking right from there for a glass of wine despite it being well before lunch. NEVER EVER AGAIN!

Our whole family liked the swinging cars, after the first time we rode them (I liked them the first time, but I'm not normal). We ride them now every time we go.

We did the non swinging car last December and loved it.

Two days ago, we rode the swinging car and my dh and I loved it! It was surprising when it took off. We will ride it again when we go back someday.

The ride is tame enough that there are no seat belts. However, if you are afraid of heights, or hate that falling feeling, then you might want to try the non-swinging ones. We go on the swinging gondolas, and love them, and think they are so much fun. If you go on either, make sure you're ready to take some cool pictures when you are at the top. :)
