Did she really say that she was proud to be an American for the first time in her life? Or is it being taken out of context? I hope that a woman who has had so much American Opportunity her entire life was proud of her country well before last week:scratchin

I like this woman's commentary:

Now I see this morning that Obama's minister is saying 9/11 is OUR fault, it is because of the racism we have in this country:crazy2:

I hope Mr. Obama removes himself from that particular congregation stating he can't stay in a church whose leader feels this way:snooty:

I think it was taken out of context.

She probably meant....this is the proudest she has ever been in her
life.

It wasn't taken out of context, she said it not once BUT TWICE.

This was discussed a few days ago and I agree with Malkin.

But the "spinmasters" were quick to the rescue.

Ahhh...the difficulty of being a political wife. Learning what to say and what not to say, and realizing that no matter what you say, someone's going to have a problem with it.

This is so true, what she said is so poignant though because Barack had just given his "Just Words" speech.

She's always proud to BE an American; she's proud of the country for it's real and urgent need to move away from the ugliness, eh? Some of us still haven't gotten that urgent need. That's ok.

She's an accomplished attorney. Her husband has run for political office through out his career. I don't think that she is on the "learning curve" any more.

I think it's just the conservatives trying to tag Michele with the same "unpatriotic" brush as they have with Barack.

You know the meme: BO doesn't say the Pledge of Allegiance or put his hand over his heart, he was raised Muslim, his middle name is Hussein, yadda, yadda.

Not only that, but anything with Malkin's name on it I immediately pass by. I refuse to read her articles.

Everyone is always on that learning curve Dawn.
I'm a nurse, have been for 25 years, have sat on many committees, done many things in my career. I still on occasion say things which I wish I thought about more carefully before I spoke. I have witnessed very successful people, people who have had years of public speaking experience, screw up and say stupid stuff sometimes. Mrs.Obama's statement doesn't really mean a hill of beans in the big picture, and yet so much time is being wasted on reporting it and discussing it, that I wonder what important things are NOT being reported and discussed because each side of the political system continually tries to say "Gotcha" to the other side. It is actually quite childish.

I think the bigger question is why does each political party take one thing the other side says and try and turn it into the summary of what their beliefs are?

I remember years back when Barbara Bush called Mrs. Clinton a *itch. My God...you would have thought she had put a contract out on her. Well, the truth is, maybe Mrs.Bush did think Mrs. Clinton was that. Maybe she still does. It was a stupid thing to say. The media and everyone else perseverated it on it for days. Did it change the fate of the nation? Not really.

Do I care of Mrs.Obama has not been proud of America? Not really. What I care about is that her husband, who would not necessarily be my choice for President, runs the country to the best of his ability if he does get elected, and does so in as honest of a fashion as any politician is able to do (my personal theory being that there is no such thing as a completely honest politician, regardless of their affiliation).

The thing I find most amazing about America is that no matter who we have in the White House, the country seems to survive.

Absolutely.....the day after the election...will be business as usual.

Republicans like to through the word "FEAR" around.
Oh if you don't vote republican to "protect" your country....we will
be vulnerable to another attack.

That is fear talking.....unfortunately....most americans can't tell the
difference....ie...the past 8yrs.

Works for me.

Why not hear ALL sides? :confused3

Exactly. If that kind of stuff is the best they can come up with, they're in a LOT of trouble come November. Not that I'm complaining. ;)

I haven't been proud of my country for a while now. Does that mean I should leave? Isn't that an allowable emotion in an elected leader's wife? Should she stand there with a blank stare and wide smile on her face while waving a flag?

Am I missing something here? Why is this such a big deal?

Because apparently this is all they can come up with.

Why not hear ALL sides?

Oh, I do. I lurk in freeperville all the time (I joined and posted once and immediately got banned - LOL!). There are just some perspectives I refuse to hear or read. Malkin, Coulter, Limbaugh, Savage come to mind.

I enjoy reading opposing views, but only those presented in a reasonable manner. None of the above, IMO, meets that criteria.
