Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Good morning NOLA! :cool1:

Kathy I'm sorry you're going through a sad time right now. I'm sure it's very normal and it's something I'll be doing myself in two years. They sure don't stay little forever.

Sheryl I hope little Alexis is feeling better today.

Mrs. Kreamer good luck at the ENT today with Kurt jr.

Good Morning!

Not much going on here today. I have some cooking to do- I'm baking a banana bread using wheat flour for the first time. I hope it tastes ok! I'm tired of not seeing this scale budge, so I'm taking the bull by the horns- cutting down on white flour, pasta, and rice and using more whole wheat and I'm going to start walking everyday again. That has to make a difference (I hope!).

I also got a cast iron grill pan so I can do more grilled meats- I did steak au poivre the other night with it and they came out great! (not lowfat, I know, but it was a splurge! ) I also got a cast iron fajita skillet- can't wait to use that too!

Mrs Kreamer- Good luck at the ENT today! MIL loves to tell stories of all of the things DH had shoved in nose and ears that the doctors would have to dig out. Hopefully Kurt just has a bean or something shoved in there.

Have a good day everyone!

Hey y'all,

DisneyDotty, Glad to here y'all had a good time! Come back soon!:goodvibes

Alexis is feeling better, she's eating a little & only complains of pain after she eats. But she did eat a little something for breakfast & lunch. Her temp is down too, so it looks like the drs. were right.

Chris said she just sent one of her nurses home today who was complaining of the stomach pain. So I guess it's something that's going around.

Lorie, Sounds like your kitchen is getting some serious upgrading in the equipment dept! I had fixed steak au poivre last week. Yuummy, but definitely not figure friendly! After eating it for 2 days, I really felt like we needed to go light! Fish, veggies & salads were our next few meals!

Stephanie, I hope Kurt Jr is okay and it's just a little cold or allergies! :flower3: Alexis has always sounded like that, the dr. insists it's allergies. Although they won't refer her to an ENT or allergist.

So girls do we want to reschedule the Meet when more of us could make it?

Glad Alexis is doing better!!:cutie:

let me know if rescheduling happens-maybe I can make it there.

Lori

Well Kurt jr has nothing wrong with him and there is nothing in his nose. Thank goodness. Oh and the ped ENT was great if anyone needs a referral.

Today was so hectic for me. We spent all morning at the Dr's office. We got home and the boys and I took a nap. Then tonight we went to our first WHO INC meeting(Westbank Homeschoolers Org). Met some very nice people, but it was pouring so we got drenched, even with an umbrella!

Kurt jr made friends with this little boy there. I think he was confused because Kurt jr kept calling him Emily Young! LOL
There is a Disney Channel show about a little girl(Emily Young) who goes around Canada learning about different occupations. This little girl is part Asian and has dark hair. the little boy Kurt met tonight is Caucasian with blond hair! The little guy and EY have the same hair cut, so maybe that is what confused Kurt....but it was so cute.

Tomorrow starts our first day without pullups. I refused to buy anymore this past weekend. We actually ran out today but since we were gone most of the day I had to put him in size 6 diapers...ugh!

But tomorrow is all underwear all the time. Wish me luck, I am going to need it!

Good morning NOLA!

Good luck Stephanie!!!!

It seems like our thread is dwindling down, no?:confused3

Good Morning guys. Boy is it a nasty morning; especially for hair!

I went to the zoo with DD's class yesterday. It was nice but humid. I definately got my excercise too! I had not been back since the week before Katrina. It is the same but some of the bamboo trees are still leaning over.

Morning everyone!

I also got a cast iron grill pan so I can do more grilled meats- I also got a cast iron fajita skillet- can't wait to use that too!

ooh - I'm jealous. I've been wanting a cast iron grill pan for ages, but I can't bring myself to spend the $$$ when I've seen them in the stores. Rachael Ray uses one all the time on her show, and it looks like it would be easier to use than firing up the pit. I'm just worried it wouldn't heat evenly on my gas cooktop. All my burners are different sizes!

Alexis is feeling better

Glad little missy is doing better. Hopefully it was just a virus causing those serious tummy aches.

Well Kurt jr has nothing wrong with him and there is nothing in his nose. Thank goodness.

Good to hear there wasn't anything serious with Kurt, Jr. either. Did they give any good explanation for his stuffiness? Seasonal allergy gunk?

Good luck being pull-up free! Big milestone for both mommy & that big boy!

Kathy - I'm late, but I'm glad to hear everything is progressing so well with Sammy. I was worried for both of you when I read the drama from last week. And hooray for Kyle for making the big decision on SLU! Far enough away to stretch those wings, but close enough to still be spoiled by Mom (and I know he will)! Looks like you'll have to make space in the freezer - that way you'll be able to put up all those extra servings you'll inevitably prepare, and know Kyle's getting home-cooked meals away from home!

Morning Y'all,

Alexis went back to school this morning, we'll see if I get a call to come get her. She continued to complain after eating yesterday, but as soon as her Mom came in from work, she asked her if it was "Doughnut Thursday"! (Chris will take her to Krispy Kreme on Thursdays as a treat.) So I guess she is improving!

Stephanie, Glad Kurt Jr is fine! Who is the ENT?

It's about time the Westbank as a Homeschool group! I remember years ago, when I considered HS for my DD, there was nothing & nobody nearby. One of the reasons I chose not to HS.

Kathy, Our thread does seem to be a lot quiter these days!

So, again about our meet. Do we want to reschedule?

Lori1043, For the Meet, Did you say that you only have one weekend off a month?

Kathy, When will your schedule clear up?

Here's a pic for y'all. Look at where the doves have decided to nest this year!

I guess I won't be planting anything in that planter! We have eaten dinner on the patio the last few nights & the dove just sits there.

Good morning y'all! I'm fine with moving the meet- I can't meet this weekend, but I have nothing planned in the following weekends.

ooh - I'm jealous.
I got mine at Linens n' Things for $19.99- it is old school cast iron, so it is heavy and non-stick, so you have to do the work of keeping it seasoned, but it works great! I also have a gas cooktop with different sizes (maybe we have the same stove!), and it's not an issue. I heat mine up in the oven first to get it nice and hot, and then put it on the largest burner.

Sheryl, so glad Alexis is doing better!

Stephanie- glad that nothing was wrong with Kurt also! Good luck with big boy underwear day! I have to start thinking about potty training soon myself- not looking forward to it. :sad2: We're going to try to get Sienna in Audubon Charter next year (fall 2009 school year), and one of the requirements is the child must be completely potty trained, so we're on a timeline unfortunately.

Oh, you're going to be a dove mommy! :cloud9: She's sitting on eggs I'm sure.

Hi y'all. My dad sent me this pic of cars about to cross the causeway from Metairie in 1956. I thought you might enjoy seeing it:

I am fine with moving the meet as well.

Sheryl - good to hear Alexis is improving.

Lorie - how is your battle with the pacifier going? Is Sienna getting used to not having it to go to sleep? Don't start the potty training until you have gotten this stage over. It would be too tramatic for her.

Stephanie - good luck with the pullup transition. I remember those days as well.

Kathy - how is your baby?

rie's mom- thanks for the pic- very cool! I love historical pictures.

It is going better. She's no longer crying for her binky, but it takes longer for her to fall asleep. She parties in her bed for awhile until I go up to remind her (sometimes more than once) that it is bedtime and she needs to go to sleep. I'm hoping this will get better too with time. At her last dr appt, her pediatrician didn't think she was ready to potty train yet, but told me to start talking about it alot and buy a potty for her to get used to seeing it around and start expressing interest in it, so I'll try that. Trust me, I'm not ready to do anymore emotional upheaval with her- getting rid of the binky was WAY harder than I thought it would be! :sad1:

Lorie, You got a really good deal on that grill pan! I bought one for DD last year, the old fashioned kind that needs seasoning & I paid about $35 for it. I bought her the old type, it's what I've had for years & liked using. Have you used your new dutch oven yet?

So you decided to go with traditional school? Will Sienna be 2, when she starts? Is that Audubon Montessori or a new charter school?

rie'smom- Cool Pic, Thanks! I'll bet light traffic on the causeway these days is much heavier than that!

Glad he is okay and nothing was shoved up his nose!!! I shoved apples up mine as a very small child:lmao: . Thankfully , my children did not inherit this from me. They are smarter than I am.:rolleyes1 :woohoo: Thank God.

If you are interested or know someone who may be, our homeschool assoc(HEA) is having a used curriculum sale for Thursday at the fire station b/t Hwy 36 and 21 in Covington. It is from 3-6pm, then a curriculum review, then sale again from 9-10pm. I saw the amount of curr. for sale and it is a LOT! I am getting there for 3pm, list in hand for next school year.

On another note, I FINAALY updates Ashton's webpage, for the final time(probably)-it is long, it is boastful and oh so wonderful. If interested, here is the link...

Most of you know this info anyway, but thought I'd post it since it s a sentimental last entry.

Wow - glad to hear that everyone's kiddos are okay.

I'm back in New Orleans - wasn't it great this past weekend. A good friend of mine from Dallas came to visit and fell in love with the city. She left her husband at home so we had a girl's weekend.

We went to lunch at Commander's last Friday. Love those 25 cent martinis. The strawberry shortcake was to die for. I'm eating cottage cheese and strawberries today after all of the food I ate this weekend.

I only have one dog (Tchoupy) with me. I left little Breaux with my dad for company. I think Tchoups is enjoying a break from the puppy.
