Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Good morning NOLA! Getting ready to start a pot of red beans with the Easter ham bone!!!!:cool1:

YUM! I will be doing this this week-gotta get to the grocery!

April 12th is out for me. I didn't realize that's the date of the last home baseball game of the season which is always "Senior Day". We start out with a Mass, parent luncheon, then the game and a BBQ for the seniors and their parents.

Kyle has decided on Southeastern in Hammond for college. A baseball scholarship is still a possibility but we're not anticipating one. He's ready to start planning his freshman year and I'm not ready to let him go.:sad2:

Kathy, at least he will be closer rather than in someother state. I think that may help me to feel better when my kids head off to college. Anyway-thinking ahead and sharing your pain. NOT looking forward to this. BUT Looking forward to it too a little. Means they are growing up and that is a good thing. Beats any alternative. , Kathy.

Morning Y'all,

disnic75, Welcome to our thread!

Lorie, I'm envious of your dutch oven! I've been thinking about buying a good one but they are soo expensive. They are great for anything you want to slow cook, like roasts or stews. They are supposed to do a wonderful roasted chicken too. Great for dishes when you want to brown the meat & then slow cook it in the oven all in the same pot.

I have my girl home from school today. She was in the ER yesterday with stomach pain. She had complained of pain all night Saturday with no vomiting or diarrhea. They brought her to the ER early Sunday morning. She only vomited once, after she was in the hospital. Poor thing they put her through some stuff, put in an iv, a catheter & took x-rays. All they found was dehydration & a high white blood cell count. She is still complaining of stomach pain. We are worried they missed something. Her mom made a office appt for this afternoon, but can't see her doc. She's trying to get him to call her back.

OMG Sheryl, poor baby. I hope they didn't miss anything and that she'll be fine. PLEASE keep us updated. I'll keep her in my prayers.

My daughter is finishing her first year here; it really is a good little school. I'm sure he'll like it. And it's close enough to home for Mom to see him often :goodvibes

I'm so happy he's going to be close to home and he'll be with 6 of his baseball buddies.:goodvibes

Hey Y'all,

My SIL is taking Alexis back to the dr.'s now. I wanted to go with her, but she didn't want me to, in case they decide to keep her or anything else I need to run over there for. (Ochsner Eastbank). She spoke to her dr & he wanted to see her. The nurse booked it & then called her back & told her there was no way she could see him, she had triple-booked him. SIL was so mad & really laid into the nurse, but she still has to see another doctor!

She was able to drink some sprite & a little soup broth, but she was still hurting when she left, couldn't stand up straight. She's running a fever but it's really low 100.3, just worried cus we don't know what the problem could be. SIL (the nurse) has all kinds of serious illnesses running through her head. I'll let y'all know what the doofus drs have to say about it.

Sheryl - I'll be praying for your little princess, hoping it's nothing serious.

Thanks Kathy (& Terry),

Kathy, I really understand your fear of Kyle starting college. Having only one child myself it was so hard to let go. I was seriously depressed there for a while. I tried to eat my depression away & I gained the freshmen 15 instead of her!

But believe me with all the choices he could make, Southeastern will be a lot easier to handle. He'll be able to come home more often. And ya'll will be close enough to run over there if needed (or if Mom just misses him).

DD had all but made her decision to go to Loyola, (which of course I was thrilled with) then after a last minute overnight stay with a friend at LSU, changed her mind & decided on LSU. We were not thrilled, of course she had very good scholarship offers at every other college she was considering.

But with TOPS, LSU make have still been cheaper than Loyola. LSU ended up being the right choice for her. And I found BR not as far away as I thought it would be. I really learned all the different routes to BR & my way around BR. Baton Rouge now feels like a second home to all of us, & if we should decide to leave N.O. it will most likely be a move closer to BR.

Thanks Kathy (& Terry),

It's just starting to sink in that my boy won't be home every night and getting a home-cooked meal. I feel a depression coming soon after graduation.:guilty:

One good thing - he and his buddies will be coming home every weekend and I can see all of the Moms cooking all of their faves.:goodvibes

Not a Metro New Orlean Diser, but I just have to chime in here--
Just returned from a (too short) week in NOLA with my family for Spring Break. My kids were really impressed by how friendly everyone was. We all had such a great time there eating, shopping, people watching, taking tours etc.
Thank you, New Orlean(ian?)s! You and your city are wonderful! :cloud9:

The dr. told Chris they think it is just a virus. Even though she doesn't have vomiting/diarrhea, that she's probably cramping. Chris didn't believe that & insisted she check her out even more. The dr did more pressing & poking on her abdomen & assured her that it was not appendicitis or a blocked bowel. She told her to give it another day or so to see how she does. I don't know every other time the child had a virus there was lots of vomiting. :confused3
But at least they didn't have to take any more blood or anything painful for her.

Kathy, It will hit you around graduation time. So be prepared. I think serious planning of your upcoming trip (& the next trip) will be in order! The F&W trip you have planned will help a lot too!!! Believe me our 1st trip alone,we weren't missing DD very much! ;)

Alexis is in my prayers. This type virus would send me right over the edge is Ashton had it-OR Haley, for that matter.

Lori

Sheryl- I hope Alexis gets better soon, poor girl! And even if it is just a virus, it can still be pretty miserable- when I was 11, I wound up in Children's Hospital for 5 days because of dehydration from a rare virus. Keep those fluids down and keep us updated!

Oh Sheryl I hope Alexis is doing better!

Kathy-You need to find something constructive to take your mind off of Kyle leaving. My mom got really depressed and did some things she should've have. She never told me how bad it really was. If I had known I would have made more of an effort to spend time with her. I went to Nicholls, but I stayed there a lot because I made friends. When I did come home I worked or spent time with my at home friends.

I hope that helps.

Kurt jr has something wrong with his nose. My mom noticed it a few months ago, and well I just noticed it a few weeks ago. When he breathes through his nose it sounds labored. so I took him to his ped 2 weeks ago and she couldn't see anything up there. Just to be safe we are going to a peds ENT tomorrow. I hope it is nothing serious but I have a feeling it is one of two things...
A) he had his tonsils removed and maybe they should have taken his adnoids too...
or B) He stuck something way up there...

MrsKreamer, can I borrow your homeschool tag in your siggy?, I LOVE it!!
