Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Good Morning! Happy St Patty's Day! :shamrock:

Terry- Happy Birthday to your DD! princess: :bday: party:

All of these cakes make me feel like a bad mom too! I can make the cakes taste good, but they aren't very pretty  , which is why I need to take a cake decorating class!

I can't believe DD is going to be 2!! :scared1: So far for her little party we are having shrimp po'boys, fried green tomato po'boys, Abita and Dixie beer, Barq's root beer in the bottle (always fun), cheapo lime sherbert punch and cake from Haydel's. All very easy for me- I just need to pick everything up! ;)

I would love to go to the zoo, I don't think we ever made a date. Now that the weather is getting nicer it would be a good idea. I have a zoo membership now and I need to use it!

Lori- Shaving under the arms already- yikes! They just grow up too fast! I started shaving my legs when I was 11, so she may be doing that soon enough!

Mary- where do you order your doberge cakes? I love a good doberge cake....maybe I'll get one for DH's b-day in June.

Sheryl- love the new comforter set! When I was looking for bedding for Sienna's bedroom I was shocked at how expensive everything was! You did good! And I raked five enormous bags of leaves yesterday, so I'm sore too today.

Hey BeadPirate Lori! :wave2:

Hey BeadPirate Lori! :wave2:

Lorie, That sounds like a great party food!! Doesn't Haydel's make a pretty good doberge cake?

On the bedding, I saw one I really loved at BB&B but the prices were :scared1: . So I think I've decided to be happy with this one! $200 bucks already scared the heck out of Bob!

Lori, Speaking of scary! I can't believe that, having to shave at 10 already!  Hugs for you, Mom! Oh, I'm gonna give Alexis an extra big hug when I pick her up from school!

Anybody cooking up some Irish food tonight? I'm doing lamb chops, potato & leek soup and colcannon.

Good morning ya'll. Just got back from excercising--when you hit 41, its unbelievable how much stays on you. I took for granted my high metabolism when I was younger. I could eat whatever I wanted, and never gain anything. That's not the case anymore.

Speaking of food, my mom is cooking cabbage for tonight. She does a wonderful job, smothering it with ham, onions, carrots, and potatoes. I can't wait.

Sheryl, I love your new bedding. It matches the curtains perfectly! I love the colors you picked out.

Lorie, I think I will order the doberge--my idea of the "hidden mickey" cake just seems lame after seeing all these beautiful cakes on here. Last year, we got her cake from The Royal Cakery out here on West Esplanade in Kenner, in the Stein mart Shopping center. It was a half chocolate/half vanilla doberge. I'd never had vanilla doberge before, it was delicious. Of course I couldn't decide what flavor I liked best, so I had to keep sampling:lmao:

So the St Patty's Day festivities have already begun around here- someone has already blocked my driveway. Morons. The city won't tow either if you call- been there, done that. Ugh!

For a zoo meet, are y'all considering during the week. My girl is off of school this Thurs and Monday & Tuesday of next week.

If we do durring the week that is ok with me, but the zoo is closed on Mondays.

During the week is ok with me too- next Thursday (27th) DD has a Dr appt, so we wouldn't be available that day.

Unfortunately due to my being the lone employee at my credit union and the fact that we're now playing "District" baseball games my schedule doesn't look too good for a zoo meet. My only off day is a Monday.:sad2:

Morning ladies.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for DD. She had a blast for 3 days...The pottery party with her classmates on Saturday, a movie (College Road Trip) and crawfish with cousins on Sunday and dinner @ Semolina's yesterday! Whew I am broke!:rotfl:

Sorry guys, I would love to do the zoo but I have to work next week.

Lori - I like your menu for Sierra's party princess: ...what are you cooking for the kid's though...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Do not feel bad about not making a cake. I do not make cakes either but I try to find stuff to decorate them so it can match the them of the party.

Shovan - I love the comforter set too!

Oooh...that sounds like a yummy menu for a birthday party, especially for a 2yo!
Didn't y'all say y'all were able to get a really good fried green tomato poboy from Whole Foods? Is it a seasonal menu item? Or maybe regional? I looked at the one here in town and didn't notice it on the menu board. I'll have to check again to be sure.

Shovan - Looks like you hit a good deal on the bedding. I've seen that set @ Sam's. We had lots of trouble finding a new comforter for our room. Seems that every one I'd love in the store looked awful once we brought it home. Don't know if it was the paint color, or the lighting, but it was as if all the colors in the bedding were sucked right out once we placed the comforter on our own bed.

The hidden mickey cake doesn't seem lame to me. It sounds like it would be really fun. Of course, if you're offering a bakery doberge as an option......hmm.....I'll take two (small) slices, please!

Happy St. Patty's day....My baby is 9 today!:woohoo:

Belated Birthday wishes to your daughter! That makes 5 girls I know with St. Patty's day birthdays - my DSis, and 3 neighbors / friends!

Oh, and Happy Anniversary Lori (Bead Pirate). Hope to see you around here more often.

Hey guys im in Alabama.. just wanted to let you guys know! MIL been sick and ive been up here helping, hope to be home soon. Ill try to get back on soon.

Morning Y'all,

St. Pat's meal was a hit last night! But I worked my bootie off on that one!

Here's a pic of DD, SIL & DH getting ready to dig in!

Did I forget to mention, that this was the 3rd comforter I had bought?! Yep, same thing I'd love it in the store & then get home, put it on the bed and then hate it! I think the flourescent lighting in the stores & my paint color made it tough to get the right color. I brought home one, that had also had reds & golds in it, but once it was on the bed, the red was bright & the gold looked green! So then I tried a "safer" light creamy gold one. And that was just too blah, the bed seemed to disappear. So I'm happy I finally find one that looked right on the bed!!!

I have my appt with the rheumatologist this morning. Y'all stay safe today, looks like we'll probably get some rain this evening.

Hey, how's everyone today. I just got back from the mall, shopping with a teenage girl is a lot of fun. It wasn't too bad. Finding clothes that we can agree on is difficult, but not impossible.

Jenny, I hope your MIL feels better.

Sheryl, you have a beautiful family. Dinner looked delicious:thumbsup2

Cajunmommy, yes, I think doberge would be better than anything I could bake. I love to cook, but I don't have the patience for baking. Would you like chocolate or vanilla?:goodvibes

How 'bout them Hornets? Awesome!!!

Mary

WHY is it that the wind always starts whipping on the day the garbage men don't show? :confused3 Man, it is really blowing hard outside right now and I've picked up trash out of the yard twice already. :sad2:

So what are you ladies cooking for Easter? I need ideas...I usually cook a roast and the fixings. I need a good dessert to bring to my sisters. Is there any place on the WB where I can purchase a good pie or cake?

The weather woke me up & has me really nervous. Hope everyone is okay tonight!

Terry, Parrot Pete's has great looking cakes & a few pies. ( They come close to Whole Foods cakes.) Doberge, carrot cake, red velvet, black forest cakes & quite a few more. I've only tried the tiramisu but it was delicious! They also have chocolate cream, lemon meringue, key lime & great looking fruit tarts. You might have to order it ahead of time, so go check them out.

I don't think I'll be cooking, but I'm not sure. Easter plans are still up in the air. We usually go to my Aunt's for lunch, which is a crawfish boil.:confused3 I still haven't figured out why we have crawfish on Easter in this family. Then we head over to DH's brother's house for dinner. But they just learned that my SIL's Mom has cancer, so not sure what they will want to do. I usually make my spinach artichoke casserole/dip to take to both places.
