Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Can I be included if I am a former New Orleanian?? Moved to Orlando in 2006 but still consider NOLA to be home. Heard ya'll had some bad weather out there, hope everyone faired well.

Kathy, If you're around, have you made that pineapple baked dish? Is it good? I need a dish for teacher appreciation week at Alexis' school, and it's a hawaiin theme.

It is excellent, kinda like a sweet & savory side dish!:thumbsup2

I guess I should have gotten Bob out of bed to hide in the hall, & I really shouldn't have been watching it standing by the window!

I'm going to get one of those weather radios, tornado season is here and it scares the crap out of me.:scared1:

Kathy, Thanks, I might try that pineapple or make my Polynesian pork chops but use pork loin cut into cubes.

I thought about those weather radios. But I was up during the night checking on the net & didn't see any further warnings about tornados. I'm worried the darn thing would be waking us up for weather on the North Shore or Baton Rouge!

Sheryl - I don't have one but it's my understanding that you can program it to your area so that you don't get other sections of the state. Now, I don't know how narrow of an area you can get to, but you definitely could eliminate the north shore or baton rouge.

Hey friends, we got this in our HEA e-mail chain this morning:

One of our fellow homeschoolers homes burnt down last night. Supposedly they will be on Ch 8 tonight. Thier last name is Kelley and there is an account set up for them at Capital One. They have SIX children. Please think about helping them if you feel it on your heart.

Thanks!!

BTW where is this cold weather from!! i thought we were getting warmer!!

Lori

Hi all!!!!

Ill be home on Monday i hope, missing my hubby and my parents, they are in Israel on vacation ( lol yeah funny place to go) and I havent spent an Easter weekend without either in 14 yrs : ( My inlaws are great but im done!!!!!!!!
No crawfish up here either for Good Friday oh what is a girl to do lol.

Ok so are we still on for the meetup in April?

Kathy - Where can I find the can of creme of coconut drink mix? I have everything else but this.

Thanks

:lmao: It's just the three of us, I love to cook and we'll have lotsa leftovers!!

Just heard on the news that there was a tornado in Marrero right off Barataria this morning. Praying that Sheryl & Stephanie weren't affected.:sad1:

We're Ok. My MIL's truck is not. She was at work at Walmart overnight. When she went to leave there were several shopping carts surrounding her truck. When she moved them she found huge dents. I swear it looks like someone rammed into her. The kicker, Walmart is refusing to pay for the damages, calling it an act of God. From what I understand she got off light. She said many others had damaged and broken windows, etc.

Glad you are okay and sorry to hear about MIL's car! That really sucks!

I need some Easter ideas. This is Kurt jr's first Easter where he knows the bunny is coming. Any ideas? I am going to make one candy basket(a big basket for the whole family with an assortment of candy). I have already bought a toy for each of the boys(Walmart had Cars two packs on clearance for $4 a piece).

I don't think I want to make individual baskets for the boys. Any other ideas?

Hopefully I won't have to cook. Sat we are having a crawfish boil at my mom's house. I am bringing the cake! White cake with lemon curd filling. Sunday I think we may go to my Stepmother's sister's house. We will only have to bring a side dish.

Morning everyone...Well it looks like another pretty day.:)

I had to come to work today, UGHHHH! There is a bright side though, I am leaving @ 2:30.

Here are my suggestions:

1. Have an easter egg hunt
2. Color eggs
3. Bake easter cookies
4. Buy easter type toys...I bought these bubble thingies for a $1 @ Walmart this morning...it looks like a wand but makes big bubbles. I also bought easter type games, like bowling and a hand game in which you throw the bunny to the other person and the hand thing catches it (it has velcro) on it.(Too cute.)

Terry - You can find it in any grocery store where the alcoholic drink mixes are found. This doesn't have alcohol in it, here's a link with a pic:

Thanks Kathy, I went down every aisle and did not think of this location.

Unfortunately I am at work today. And it is a gorgeous day here in Orlando. Wish I could be at one of the parks today, but gotta make a living. Might try to go to Downtown Disney tonight and hang out for a while. Would prefer to be at a good ole crawfish boil!!!! Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend.

I am so envious of you - living in Orlando is my dream.

Tigerkat it is wonderful. I miss New Orleans a lot though. There is no place like it. But Orlando is a fabulous city and I am really happy to be living here. Just that I never seem to be able to get to the parks. I thought I would be there everyday when I moved. Doesn't exactly work that way!!! ;)

Went to Walmart today for Easter basket stuff:scared1:

Instead of the traditional basket I got two sand buckets. They are gallon size, so pretty big. I am going to stuff the bottom with newspaper and stuff them. I have a bag of animal crackers for each(one frosted, the other hot wheels). They each are getting a Cars two pack. A new Cars cup for each. then I got Aiden a pair of fake Crocs...I know, :duck: I should hang my head in shame, but I refuse to spend $30 on beach shoes he will only wear a handful of times :headache: I got Kurt jr some Pre-K workbooks and big boy underwear. We will hopefully be giving the Easter Bunny all of his pull-ups for the baby bunnies.:rolleyes1 I also have some stickers for both... Oh and I almost forgot that I hid some of their unopened toys from Christmas( we got so much stuff, we really didn't have room for them to open everything...so 15% went in a closet).

There will be a family basket on the table filled with candy and other treats.

OK so how bad of a mom am I? Shoes, underwear and schoolwork for Easter gifts...not to mention left over Christmas presents??? :lmao:

I lived in Kissimee for a few months after Katrina. It was great for awhile. But then you really start to miss the food and culture of New Orleans...at least I know I did...:rolleyes1

Hey y'all!

I've been busy over here- Sienna's birthday and little party was yesterday. Everything went well, the po'boys and beer were a hit ;) and Sienna had a dandy old time until she threw a massive tantrum at 8pm, which is her normal bedtime anyway. That cleared people out real quick. :rotfl: That said, I'm glad it's all over cuz I am pooped!

I'm baking that mango cheesecake right now for the family reunion tomorrow (I over-baked it... oh well. What can I say, I was on the phone! ). Not looking forward to the reunion AT ALL, but I'm going through with it. I'll let ya'll know how it all went.

nolaginabina- :welcome: Lucky dog, you live in Orlando! I would love to live there. I guess I would get homesick too though- we were really homesick when we lived in Houston 6 weeks after K. We had to come back home, even being homeless, because we couldn't stand to be away from home any longer.

Stephanie- don't feel bad about the Easter baskets- this is Sienna's first year getting an Easter basket from us. :rolleyes1 She didn't know any better the last two years- she was just a baby!

I'm not sure, are we still having a meet in April? Or a zoo meet? :confused3
