Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I am taking the Wilton course I at the Michael's store in harahan. My stepmom and I signed up and this is what we did in class 2. Class 1 was just leaning about the tools, so really this was the first thing we did.

We are having so much fun. It is so worth it.

hello Peeps... not from New Orlenas.. but just wondering if anyone can point me on the right direction on what I can do it baton Rouge and how is it to New orleans... since SWA only flies to New Orleans and not to BTR...

TIA

Hi guys -

Sorry guys, I have been running around like a mad person the last few days; especially today! Today was a very busy day for us. It is DH's birthday as well as DD's :cutie: birthday party (her birthday is actually this monday, St. Patrick's Day.) We had it @ Posh Paint Pub in Metaire... it's a very nice place. The girls had fun painting their purses and sandles.

I was trying to think of what I could do with her cake that would go with the theme of painting so I found a pic of a paint pallete, bought a paint brush and brought them both to Creative cakes to see if they could create this. Below is the final product; it came out great! :thumbsup2

I gave Paintastics (no mess) brushes as their party favor...their actual gifts are these:

The girl's are true artists.....

It's fun having a party but boy does it wear on you! I am pooped.

Oh, I forgot to tell y'all! We went to a great real New Orleans wedding tonight! ( That's why I'm still awake.) I'm really glad I felt compelled to go. It's the owner of DH's company's son, but we also been friends with him & his wife for over 25 years. So whether I felt well or not this was one of those things, you must attend. But I'm so glad we went AND we stayed to the end.!

The wedding took place outdoors in Audubon Park at Sunset, with oak trees forming a canopy over the ceremony almost like a church ceiling. In the background we could see the spire of Holy Name of Jesus church through the trees. The reception was held right there, at the golf club, which had cake & food inside with most of the tables out on the patio. Luckily we had PERFECT NOLA weather for that, it was cool & breezy! Didn't even notice mosquitos until about 10! The food was great & typical Nawlins too, grillades & grits, crawfish pasta, crabcake stuffed mushrooms, all delicious!

Something I thought was super cool, the bride & groom had the limo take them to the local St Pats day parade dressed in full bridal regalia! The photographer was able to catch them her in her gown & him in tux, catching beads, flowers & cabbages at the parade!!! I can't wait to see the pics of that!

Drive to New Orleans can be anywhere from 1 15 min. to 2 hrs. depending on traffic. Typical would be 1 & 1/2 hours. Hopefully some of Baton Rouge girls will pop on to give you the best tips in BTR! It's a great city, with lots of great food, history & music too! Give us a bit more detail on your trip. How long in BTR & how long in Nola? We'll help as much as we can! :goodvibes

Oh wow, I get a virus for a few days and come back to so much!

Kathy, oh my! I hope Kyle is OK. Please watch him closely because some injuries can take a few days after an accident to show up.

Sheryl, I hope you feel better.

Terry, I hope you are OK.

I finished my first cake decorating assignment. We had to bake a character cake(one of the preformed pans) and decorate it per the instructions. I chose a race car...

What a great job for a first cake!!!:thumbsup2 Let us know as soon as you will be selling your services!!!;) Seriously it looks like an expensive cake-shoppe cake!!!! You could sell your work!

Hey ya'll! Well, I should have internet again around the first of April. I can't wait- however, I have been far more productive here without it.:lmao:

The moves are all done, just trying to find room still for all of our crap. Who knew there was so much of it?!? It breeds I tell ya!

Anyway, I've missed so much by just lurking I'll just say- I miss all of ya, and glad you all are still well enough to be around. (even if a few of you should be going to the doctor sooner than you are....)

I'm off to Detroit tomorrow (again!) for the week, but will be back soon. But that means I can get on Rick's computer more often.:thumbsup2

Tomorrow's our 6th anniversary..... I can't believe I haven't killed him yet.:confused3

Hi Timmy!

Baton Rouge peep here. What do you need to know? Baton Rouge is less than an hour's drive from the New Orleans airport if you hit the traffic right. From my house we can actually get to MSY quicker than BTR. I've lived here over 30 years and hubby is a native so please feel free to PM me with any questions!

Hey, just came in from doing garden stuff. Hubby and I trimmed rosebushes most of the afternoon. Kids are studying for exams. Kinda quiet around here.

Sheryl, that sounds like a fun-loving couple.

Lori, Happy Anniversary!!:cool1:

I love the cakes ya'll posted. Erica's birthday is next week. I was going to order her a doberge cake, but she want a fun-fetti mix cake. I'm not a good baker or creative with this kind of stuff. I was thinking of making a big circle with one box of mix, and then two smaller circles with another box of mix making a hidden mickey. I've never baked a birthday cake before, so this should be interesting. I'm trying to talk her into a doberge:)

happy anniversary Rick & Lori!!!

I love the cakes!! I have made all of my kids cakes and succumbed to whatever they desired! It has been fun but have dreamed about ORDERING one!! I have winged(word?) it every time... I have made a castle cake, the barbie cake when some Barbie with wings was popular, scooby doo, eeyore for my SIL's shower, campfire cake(DH's favorite by looks! and the easiest), Hannah Montana, the bcastle again!, and a few others) I curse every time -until the candles are blown- thinking it will just fall apart! Never have I taken a class, but always wanted too.

Happy Birthday to Sienna-2!!!! wow!!

Did we ever make a zoo date?? I haven't been on in a while due to colds and art classes and my CHILD growing up so fast.

I had to teach Ashton how to shave her underarms tonight-horrifying and awesome all at once. When did she grow up so fast. I noticed a faint odor from her today and when she was bathing I aksed to see her underarms and OMG she had a few longer/darker hairs. I am thinking she will need to shave once a week or less at this point. Deodorant is next I guess but I want to get her a "all natural" one since some anti persperants are linked with cancer-and hey! we did that already!! She is only 10!!! I thought we'd start deodorant like at 12 or 13!! I am not allowing her to do her legs until she asks me;) . Right now she is horrified too-so we are in the same boat!

Haley just floats along- a lovely dancing singing clueless 8 year old-I LOVE that about her!! No worries!!

Lori:hippie:

Thanks for the compliments! Lori those are so cute!

We went to the St Pattrick's Day parade today, caught lots of veggies and tons of toys. Kurt jr got FOUR roses! He loved the idea of women coming up and kissing him...he isn't even four yet. Can I lock him up when he hits puberty? ;)

Even though I doused everyone in sunscreen Aiden still managed to get burnt...he has Dh's complextion which is so white! I am used to Kurt jr and I having olive skin that darkens in the sun!

I made a cake for today.

Wow, we've got some really talented cake decorators on this thread. Great job.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patty's day....My baby is 9 today!:woohoo:

Yes all of these cakes are awesome....

Morning Y'all,

Well looking at all those beautiful cakes, don't I feel like an incompetent Mom & Nana! Never made a decorated birthday cake in my life! I have made DD a tres leches cake the past few years, but that's for tastes not looks!

Lorie, I can't believe Sienna is turning 2? Not already! ;)

Hey Lori, We really been missing ya around here! Happy 6th Wedding Anniversary!! Proud of both of you for not killing each other!

Terry, Happy Birthday to your DD!

Kathy, Hope you continued to have a nice weekend!

Yesterday, we slept in & then went back to Parrot Pete's for brunch. ( I knooww, you'd think I had ownership in the place.) But man I had something called a Debris Benedict that was awesome! Typical Eggs Benedict but with roast beef debris, ooh it was good. And the weather yesterday was awesome! (We also saw the weather girl Dawn Brown there, brunching with friends.) Then we went to Sam's & spent too much money. I came home & worked on moving hoses & sprinklers around to keep the new landscaping from dying. Then I started cleaning up the patio & planting some herbs. By last night I could hardly move! But I'm feeling better this morning & hopefully can finish getting the patio cleaned off. We have a guy coming to pressure wash everything on Wednesday. So I've got to get rid of all the junk. I'm babbling...

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!!!!!

This is what I spent so much money on at Sam's yesterday.

New comforter set for the bedroom. It was right under $200 bucks for the set with a gazillion pillows, shams & bedskirt. I'm going to have to get creative to try & fit the bedskirt on the antique bed though. I'm thinking I'll keep the old curtains, draw them back & put something that matches the bedspread underneath.
