They will bloom this year, my neighbor hacks hers off every year and they always come back, just not in a big pretty tree, I prefer mine being big beautiful full size trees.
I call Crepe Murder LMAO

Here is an article about pruning them.... just know if I was there I would be chaining myself to your trees right about now!! HMMM.. maybe ill go do that to the neighbors today, I see the husband out there with his clippers.
Only reason I ask about the bugs is we spent 10 nights camping at fort wilderness and I swear we didnt see anything anymore than what we have at home.
We are a pretty buggy place here too, so I guess I just can't imagine it is that much worse , which is prob why the pumpkin center lady doesnt think it is that bad.
How neat you have a neighbor from here!!
Ha! This girl we met across the street told me the EXACT same thing today! She said it kills her when people prune them-she said she hasn't ever pruned hers. She also said that she LOVES when they bloom and all the blooms "snow down-it looks like a princess movie!"
Ok, so we may not prune the ones on the side of the house- except maybe a little to get the branches from over the roof line.
Remember that Disney has exterminators and keep it up. BUT I am having a better outlook since the Birds of Paradise came down and things are pruned back. And they WERE BoP- they were White Birds of Paradise, not the smaller orange variety. We are learning a lot.
Now after my hubby gets all that done, we will be killing the chinch bugs that ate the lawn. Then doing seeds or plugs or maybe even sod.
Hey y'all,
Lori, Prayers that your MawMaw being called home is an easy & peaceful move for her.![]()
I've been looking at your yard & pool pics. I can understand why it is a daunting & overwhelming. BUT I can also picture it cleaned up & green! It is goiing to be awesome! I'm totally jealous of your pretty, clean, blue & covered pool! Especially with the huge amounts of money we are getting ready to dump into our backyard! We are close to picking the pool guy, then I'll have to take some before, during & after pics.
.
I am looking forward to hearing what you all get done.
I know you are getting the pool resurfaced.
It IS daunting and overwhelimg b/c Paul and I both have been used to a easy to take care of garden and yard. This is a lot of work- espo when you are on your own. But we are finding a couple neighbors to be very nice and helpful. One is helping Paul to transport the massive heap of foliage to the landfill next weekend. He has a flat bed trailer.
Otherwise, we'd be $900 lighter.
Any ideas on a "thank you" for that??
Hey y'all!
I realize I haven't posted in forever, but I have been on FB a bit. Some mini-dramas going on around here, but nothing major, just annoyances mostly. Plumbing issues (just in time for the tax refund of course!), minor work issues with DH, and Erik cut three teeth in one week!Yep, that was fun- little guy did not take that well at all! I still haven't found a part time job yet but I'm now thinking I should give up on that until after our vacation because I don't want to get hired and then tell them I'm leaving for two weeks in about a month. (Disney in 48 days!
)
I think I may have a lead in getting Sienna in Hynes next year, maybe, so keep your fingers and toes crossed- I need the good luck!
We planted our creoles and a couple of hibiscus. Now we're waiting for the big garden show in City Park on April 10-11 to get the rest of our plants. We're ready to do some gardening!
Bethany- I just did the park map cleanout last year- I can't BELIEVE how much I had saved from my 13rolleyes1) trips. I kept one set of maps from each trip, which seems like a lot but I actually wound up throwing two bags full of extra maps, brochures, etc. My first maps are from my first trip in 1987...I'll have to see if I can scan them in the computer. They are so much fun to look at!
Cara- I'm glad Logan's arm isn't broken. I feel bad for Fletcher too- poor guy.
Lori- I'm sorry to hear about your mawmaw, but she is going to a better place. My grandmother is 93, so I can relate. She's lived a long, fulfilling life, but I'm sure my dad and sister will be thrilled to see her again. I commented already about the plants and your critter on FB, but I agree with Sheryl that I can see the potential in your yard- it is going to be beautiful! It is just overwhelming for you to see this just yet.
Serena- So about poor Kodi! Glad she is okay!
Kathy- I've never heard of that place, but it sounds good! Thanks for the tip!
Wow, Lorie, you all have been busy! At least Erik got all 3 in at once and maybe you'll have a little break. I sure do hope you can get Sienna into your school of choice!
I AM looking forward to having a nice yard, with a little less WORK written all over it. I am praying we took or are taking care of the possible critter issue before it happens. I am buying borax tomorrow for my walkway and entryway.
I had visions of campouts in the woods with the kids and pinics out there too- but when I heard about the reason for my phobia being rampant- it all went downhill in my mind and I was/am crushed. I heard you just need to spray the grounds really well to keep them at bay. We never had to do that at our house in Covington.
I love this house and hope this works out like we were thinking before we got it.
I did the same thing with all the WDW pamphlets before we moved. Weeded out.
And believe it or not, we are still weeding out- although no more Disney maps!
I am PROUD of Paul, who has stepped out of his box to help me be happier. He bought an electric saw to take down the dead stuff and prune. If you knew him well, you'd know this is out of his area of expertise. I was half laughing half really pleased with him that he did all this himself all day. Even when the saw's chain kept popping off, he kept going. Which is big for him, b/c 10 years ago he'd have given up, cursed it all, thrown it away and hired someone b/c he and power tools do NOT go hand in hand. he says every time he tried to use one they break or he ruins the project. I think he's never had the chance and his dad never did any of that either. He says God didn't gift him with the ability.

He even asked the neighbor if HIS wife had ever told HIM that she was proud b/c he was handling a big power tool. The neighbor kinda laughed at him, not sure if he was serious.

BTW- my mawmaw is STILL hanging on. I am glad but not sure how serious hospice was! Anyway- thanks ya''l'. Missing home so much, not good with change- but today was better and it was sunny and windy bit beautiful
