Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Bethany:lmao:- OLPH-Our lady of Perpetual Help church and Chee Weez- they are a really good band around here! Sorry, I found that kinda cute!

Lori

:lmao: THANK YOU for clearing that up! I've seen signs for it for at least a week and every time I see it I am just :confused3 :rotfl:

Then I forget to ask by the time I see someone who I can ask. :headache:

I figured Chee Whiz must be pretty good...I've seen them on a few festival signs. The name is funny too. There's a burger place (I've only seen it at JFK airport) but it's called Cheeburger Cheeburger. Drives me nuts that there's no s in it. :rotfl2:

Have a good day everybody!

I'm going to have to look into this. I have not seen anything about it. Only signs for some "Olph Festival" with some band called Cheez Whiz or something. :confused3

:rotfl2: You crack me up!

Kyle's coming in this evening and will be heading back to BR tomorrow, gotta start cooking stuff to send him back with!...bbl.......

TGIF everybody! Busy weekend ahead.....Did y'all see Ole Miss got beat by S. Carolina??? USC went down, now Ole Miss will drop from #4! Hope the Tigers can put it together and hold onto the ball in the rain this weekend in Starkville! Looks like the Saints' game will be wet as well.

Your local "cultcha" lesson of the week...Don't know how many people recognize the connection, but the Chee Weez get their name from a locally produced snack food that's a close copy of Frito Lay Cheetos (the crunchy kind, not the puffs). They were originally made by Elmer's (yep, the same people that spoil us with Gold Brick, Heavenly Hash & Pecan eggs @ Easter time!) We used to get Chee Weez in elementary school as a "side" along our hot dog / hamburger meals. LOVED them! I've seen them in WM recently, surprised they're still on the grocery shelves.

OH, and did you know there's a Cheeburger Cheeburger in Baton Rouge in Target / Siegen Ln shopping center? That name comes from the old SNL - Belushi skit with the "No Coke, Pepsi" line. :rotfl:

:teacher: Lesson over - Back to regular conversation.....

Kathy - Any word on tryouts for Kyle, or did the rain shut them down? We had some torrential t-storms at the beginning of the week. I mentioned his early success to DH, and he told me K might have a good shot since LSU lost two of their highly recruited pitchers to MLB. Fingers crossed!!!

WAH! I can't make Oct 3rd - (insert pouting smilie here). We are absolutely slammed that Saturday. Ball game, soccer game, plus work obligations for the school fair that weekend. Wish I could be headed to Gretna Fest. I've read the lineup, and the music should be awesome!

Monique - Try-outs were rained out and re-scheduled for Tuesday, thanks for asking! Yep, they lost 2 pitchers to MLB but they still have the 3rd best recruiting class in the country and are very deep with pitchers. I'm pretty sure this is the end of the road for Kyle but I couldn't be more proud of what he's accomplished. Everything happens for a reason and he is feeling stressed out trying to manage his time, school and his money without factoring baseball into the equation. Not sure if he could handle it all.:sad1:

I didn't realize they still had such depth @ that position. Not surprising, however, which is why Maineri's crew has been so successful. Is it gut feeling from you or something Kyle has said that's making you think it won't go further?

Regarding his being stressed with time + school + $$ -- Any thought that he's missing his scheduled to the nth degree routine he used to maintain? It's a big transition, and he'll do just fine. I bet he just has to get accustomed to a new routine without a coach or Mom telling him where to be!

Are there still two OLPH on the west bank, Gretna and Belle Chasse? I know there's on in Kenner. My niece went to school at the OLPH in Belle Chasse and they used to have awesome fairs. Course that was YEARS ago...

Actually the Elmer's who make the chee weez are a different family group than the candy. Related (brothers or something), but not the same company. Found that out some years back because one of DD's friends in grade school was in that family and at her birthday parties they had tons of them for the kids to snack on:yay:
And I love them; Rouse's carries them in a variety of flavors, but I'm partial to the original.

Oh it's definitely my gut, he is very confident. He is overwhelmed right now, being on his own for the first time. He had no idea how much he relied on me. The stories I could tell about the phone calls I have gotten would have you rolling, for instance, he was going to pay his first bill (water bill), he called and asked what does "place postage here" mean....I told him, he said..."what is a stamp and where do I get one?" He then proceeded to tell me he was placing "cash" in the envelope to mail.....:sad2::eek::scared1:

Morning Y'all,

I'm cracking up over here! :rotfl2: I'm glad Bethany was able to learn about some local "cultcha" ! and some long ago SNL tv trivia! As soon as I read "Cheeburger, Cheeburger" I was giggling!

Kathy, Place postage stamp here???!!! :rotfl2: Oh too funny! It must be something about baseball playing boys! Josh is just as bad! Angelina still calls me either laughing or dumbfounded with "Can you believe he didn't know .....?" She is always telling him "What'd you do grow up in a box?" and Bob's comment is usually "Yeah he did, a batter's box!"

He'll get it, don't worry! If Josh could do it without major screw-ups, I'm sure Kyle can too! If he should get on the team, he'll figure that out also!

Lauri, I don't recall an OLPH in Gretna?

The only OLPH I know of it in metairie/kenner area. There are 2 OL's that I get mixed up- one in metaire and one in kenner-one is perpetual help and once is something else. The only school I know ofon the WB is Belle Chase Primary and the Belle Chase school Cara and Bethany work for!

Thank you for some La History!! I am teaching it this semester and will pass on that kid friend ly info!LOL

I KNEW I headrd Cheeburger Cheeburger from somewhere!!!
Remember Rosanna Rosanna Danna??? Paul and I and my cousin still crack up over her!! Gilda Radner....

Lori

Awww, man! I wish I could meet you!

Oooh, you KNOW I need me some "cultcha" lessons! :lmao: I used to love Cheetos - never the puffy kind, always the crunchy kind. When I started reading that sentence about Elmers I thought it was going to end with "made glue". :rotfl2: You REALLY need to keep the cultcha lessons coming!

You know, I've BEEN to that Target and I think maybe I saw that Cheeburger Cheeburger. There's a Community Coffee nearby I think. I don't remember that SNL skit...I've never really watched SNL.

The signs I've seen don't say where the school is, and I've seen the signs both in Gretna and at the Plaq Parish line. I do know that last Friday OLPH in BC had up a TON of those sheriff barrier things all over the place. Somehow I never made the connection between those and the signs. :lmao:

And whatever you do, under no circumstances, should you even THINK for a hot second to go even ONE mph too fast in a school zone in Plaquemines Parish, particularly OLPH. They have out an entire team of officers with radar guns!

Change of plans for Kyle, he had to schedule a tutoring session for late this evening so he'll be coming in tomorrow morning and spending the day with us. I guess I should be glad that he's thinking of his grades before anything else.:goodvibes

Morning all.

So I figured out my confusion on the churches - the one in Gretna is St. Cletus. My sister lived near that on, but it didn't have a school so they became members of the OLPH in Belle Chasse. So its just that one and the one in Kenner. Sorry, its been a while since I've been on the West Bank as my family all moved from the in late 2004. I know my sister had said that there had been changes over there so I don't know if OLPH still has a school anymore.

Cara and Bethany - you work at the same school? Neat!

There's a Catholic School in Belle Chasse just a little bit past Belle Chasse High. I'm pretty sure it is OLPH...I don't usually go down that far on 23.

And yes, we do. :goodvibes

I have been in Covington for over 10 years and before that my dad grew up here, moved to River Ridge when he married my mom. A few years after they divorced he moved back over here(1994). My dad went to St Peters then he went to be a Brother at Christian Brothers for high school.

We love it here and hate to leave.:sad2:

Lori

We love it over here. I think my son was most shocked when we started looking on this side of the lake, he didn't think I'd ever leave N.O.

Serena, I hope you enjoyed your days off.

So, are things a go for lunch next Saturday? Looking forward to finally meeting you all.
