Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

There's a lot drama that I somehow ended up in the middle of only because I was friends with people on both sides before it started...now it seems like I'm losing friends on both sides when I'm really just trying to stay out of it. :sad1:

:yay: Now if we can get some peeps together for lunch one day before I go, we'll be all set! What is your availability? I'm available on Fridays for sure. Anyone else?????????

Crazy dang DIS! Good thing I checked the thread because I have no messages from here:rolleyes:.

I'm good most any day but Saturdays are best because of Rie's school schedule. Some days I have to pick her up at 2:30 other days it's 3:30 or 4:30 and it changes each week.

Oh...as for lunch....I work on Fridays. I could do pretty much any Saturday or Sunday.

Except this Saturday is a free day at a lot of area museums. I'll have to find the link for the information; you have to print off a free pass. I know WWII museum and some Southern Art (Ogden?) and New Orleans History (I think that's the name?) are all on the list.

Lemme shut up until I "learn a little more" (aka come back w/ the link!)
Okay I think someone may have posted this here. I read about it (maybe on this forum?) but got it emailed to me at work today so I'm putting it out here. http://microsite.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/

Let's see what Julie's availability is before we plan any further. I can do Sat or Sun if Kyle isn't here!

OK, looks like a Saturday it will be! I'm OK with it being a Saturday that Kyle is in, it's not like I'll be gone all day. I really don't have any plans as of right now so we'll see what the rest of the gang has to say! Any ideas on a place?

What I don't like is people who think where they live in the metro area is better than somewhere else lives. Like Lorie said, I don't want to here someone say with a snooty attitude "Ooohh you live on the Westbank."

I was told I'm being offensive to the natives...but I can't figure out about what. Someone said I was from New Orleans but I don't live in Orleans Parish.
That is so silly for someone to quibble about.

When I lived in California I used to always say I was from San Francisco. I actually lived in Foster City which is a suburb of San Mateo which is a suburb of SF. No one (even in Southern California) had ever heard of Foster City - it was founded in the 1970s (on landfill) and had a population of about 30,000 and an area of 4 sq. miles.

I flew out of the SF airport - so I considered myself from SF. If you live close enough to fly out of nola airport without a major drive you are from nola.

I got back from Orlando last night. Stopped at a party with my sister (opening of an outdoor sculpture garden) and then went to visit my dad for an hour or two.

I left my travel backpack in the car so did not have my phone with me. I missed a very, very important phone call - I got the message hours later.

My best friend's husband called me in tears telling me it was the hardest phone call he'd ever made. Susan had an MRI yesterday and was told that she has an inoperable malignant brain tumor.

I am devastated. We were in college together and were roommates after school until she married. Remember when we all had our meet in May? I was in nola to see her - she lives in GA and came over for a visit.

I was maid of honor in her wedding and we've been best friends for 40 years - literally. I just can't believe this is happening.

Tricia, I am so sorry. I can't imagine how you must feel. I'll be keeping you and them in my prayers and feel free to call if you need to talk.

October 3rd is good for me. The WB is good too, if it's good for y'all.

Tricia - I am so sorry - my heart hurts for you and for her...I wish there was some words that could comfort you and her family...just know that we are all here for you. Please let us know if there is anything we could do to help you.:grouphug:

Checking in real quick, I still gotta finish packing.

Tricia:hug:I'm so sorry.

Kat, you asked about dining. We have Chefs de France, California Grill and Yak & Yeti booked.

I'll have to check on the 3rd when we get back.

WOW! I have missed a lot and was trying to catch up! Deleted posts, mean people, devastation...........

Tricia- too bad we couldn't get together in Disney. I am SO sorry for your friends health , so sorry:hug:. But I do beleive in miracles, I really do. I do not beleive in statistics, for the most part. Just pray and keep your chin up. Help her keep her chin up and her hubby's- should that time come that you just know-well face it THEN and not a moment sooner, accept it and know there is a better place than on this earth. But in the meantime, after everyone is past the official shock-b/c it IS horrific- love the life she has NOW! I hope this does not offend or make you want to slap me(there were some people I wanted to slap after Ashton was dx'd for thier "happy" comments, but later on, I remembered some and realized that some things said were true, some WERE dumb and they should've been slapped, and some were thoughtful and meant a lot- I mean, MY world stopped for God's sake, why shouldn't everyone elses that I know). Again, I HATE cancer, it sucks a big you know what! I am so sorry to hear this about your close friend.

Bethany-I live 40 miles north of NOLA, and I tell people I am from there. I DID grow up 15 minutes away in River Ridge, but if I told someone I live in Covington, they'd ask me where is that and I'd tell them NOLA anyhow.

I sincerely love when people ask if we were "affected" by Katrina.(sarcastic smilie)

Mary- have FUN!

I am not sure I'd be available for lunch- my family seems to have birthdays GALORE this time of year! That weekend is our 16 year anniversary!
No plans yet, but I am thinking I need to keep it open for a date night at the least!

Lori
