Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Yesterday, when I went to pick her up from school, I arrived early, so that I could run in and talk to her guidance counselor. Rie's report card is going to be awful. Missing those days has hit hard. So, Tim, the guidance counselor, and I are meeting with her teachers on Monday morning. We're going to ask them to seat her front and center in the class to make sure she gets all the lesson instruction. Rie has a learning disability-ADD- and she has had problems with every medication we've tried. She'll also either be on probation with the cheer squad or put off the squad. Hopefully, because her illness impacted her grades, she'll only get probation.
It's God's will not mine. I'm so depressed- thank God, I started on the Prozac again.

Awe  to you. please let me know if I can help in any way. I too am on meds, Lexapro and I tell you it has helped me immensely.

Thank-you Serena. I know it will be fine. The fact that Rie is finally on the proper meds and is getting better outweighs the other stuff. I think that I'm just worn out from Rie having been sick for so long. It was more stressful than I realized and a roller coaster-"Yes, she's well!", "OMG, she's sick again!"repeated over and over again.

Thanks to all of you for you kind words of support, it really helps me get through this. It was terribly hard to do but the mass on her liver was huge and the vet said she would deteriorate fast so I had to let my girl go. As y'all know Kyle left for school, now my baby is gone, it's eerily quiet now. Hopefully time will make it better, all I can do is hug her blanket an hold her collar. Sorry I'm so depressing.

I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost one of my furbabies. So I understand how hard this is for you, especially since you are still getting used to Kyle being away. I wish there was more I could say to help, but I know only time will solve this for you.

:hug:You're not depressing. You're grieving as we all would be if we lost a beloved pet.

Can I tell you how much I hate a virus diagnosis?!
If the doctors had thought 'out the box', Rie's bladder infection would have been caught earlier. How hard would it have been to get a urinalysis while doing the 4 or 5 blood tests they did over the last 6 weeks?

I agree with you on the virus stuff. Its so frustrating when you know there's got to be more to it and you keed getting the runaround.
Both of my kids have ADD so I know what you are dealing with there. My DD also had a lot of health issues during high school and always missed a ton of school. As long as we kept in contact with her counselors and teachers, they always worked with us. I'm sure as long as you do the same for Rie. But don't forget to take care of you as well!

Lorie - I'm glad Erik is better and didn't have to undergo a bunch of tests. Hopefully he will get better and stay that way!

It sure is rainy and dreary today. I'm gonna spend my weekend cooking.

Thanks y'all. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Kat, how are you?

Thanks to all of you for your kind words of support, I really appreciate and love each and every one of you.:grouphug:

Extremely sad, but I'm trying to remember all the cute, funny, goofy stuff she did that made us love her so darn much. I'm sure it will get easier but it hasn't yet.:sad1:

It will take time.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words of support, I really appreciate and love each and every one of you.:grouphug:

We love you too!!!

Morning all!

Lorie glad Erik doesn't need any more tests . Sending healing thoughts and prayers that he gets well asap!!!

Kathy.... I left for college and our family pet of about 12 years passed about month later. Very hard on Mom, she threw herself into alot of church related and friend activities and visiting me ALOT.. she cooked for my friends and I constantly lol. We had the best stocked fridge in the apartment complex ; ). Kept her mind of missing us both she said.
Hugs to you, girl ! xoxo.

Went to LSU to tailgate, had a nice day, rainy but fun. Kids had a ball all playing together which was my main point of going. I didnt want a little rain to keep Jack from seeing his friends.

Sheryl.. how is Alexis feeling?

I need to catch up on lots, off to read a bit.

Good morning.

Kathy,:hug:more hugs to you. I lost my little Lily 4 1/2 years ago. She was a little sheltie who was 14 years old and she was like a child to me. I cried like a baby when we had to put her down. If you ever need to talk, please call me.

Lorie, I hope Erik wakes up today like nothing ever happened and he has lots of smiles for you.:)

Last night, David got his Jesuit senior ring. It was such a beautiful mass and ring ceremony. He went to his ring dance right after the ceremony. It was a special day. One I won't forget for a long time--and I'm proud of myself--I didn't cry once:goodvibes

Hi everyone!! I am going to try to catch up with everything I've missed, although that's probably impossible :lmao: I just had to post regarding the following:

Ok, I'm not sure if you want to fight this or not, but I have some advice for you. First of all, is Rie in a Catholic/public/private school? Are 504 accomodations being made for her? If so, and this information comes from the 504 guidelines (I'll try to find them out for you)- I've brought this up to the counselor at my school as well (Catholic school- required to make 504 accomodations b/c of acceptance of federal funds)- students SHOULD NOT be removed from sports and/or extracurriculars for poor grades if they have 504 accomodations. Let me try to find the exact wording for you. We fought the battle long and hard for my son Michael- ADHD, along with borderline dyslexia and a processing disorder. One thing I learned is you have to FIGHT for what is right- many times the schools DO NOT know what they are required to do. It takes an informed parent to be an advocate for her child.

Hey gals!

We were at TL today and I bought a garbage pail. It was raining. On the way back to our spot I my feet came out from under me ,ice cream went everywhere and I hit my tailbone HARD. So I am back in our room now on ice and the park gave me ibuprofen and a new garbage pail. Ha! I think the message here is 'don't buy a gallon sized Sunday or icky things may happen to you'. In the rain. To try to suprise your kids for lunch!
Yes, we had it for lunch and it can feed 10 easy! The manager said the rain sunscreen and chemicals they put on the cement are a slippery mix and collect in some spots. An older lady from England fell and busted her knee just minutes before me in the same spot.

If I keep up the meds I think I'll be ok.

I told the girls that I'd have fun no matter if I was stuck in the room;)

going to MK and 1900 park fare tonight!

On hubbys iPhone.....

OUCH! I hope that you feel better. Tomorrow you might be more sore than today. Think about getting a wheel chair.

Morning y'all.

Today is our meeting at school:scared1:. Hopefully, all will go well.

Hope you all have a good day.:yay:

Kathy - So, so sorry to read about your losing Sammie. I know it's going to be tough, but I'm glad she didn't go through a prolonged period of suffering. We're here if you need us....

Lorie - I hated those pesky 24hr "fever viruses", especially the ones that always seemed to show up on late Friday afternoon! I hope Erik is feeling better. Is he sleeping better now that you've started him on cereal?

Lori- OUCH! You must have decent balance. I would've ended up wearing the garbage pail contents! :upsidedow Hope that's the only "bump" in your vacation!

Rie's mom - Good luck with the powwow this morning! I hope there's some compassion to go around.

Shovan - Miss A ready to go back to school this morning, or is she still under dr.'s orders to rest & take it easy? I hope all of you got the much needed rest you deserved this rainy weekend.

I'm going to try and get back into the swing of things this week. Hopefully my girl will "be back home" in a day or so, we had her cremated. Today is my first day home alone and it's very strange. Kyle will be coming in this afternoon to have a physical and will spend a few hours with us. I'll be sending him back with Shrimp creole, rice, garlic bread and a hot fudge pudding cake.

I just don't have the right mindset to go back and read everything I've missed so hoping I didn't miss anything, if I did, I'm sorry my friends.:grouphug:

Happy Monday Gang. I am soooo tired this morning. We moved our mom into her apartment this weekend. It's amazing how much stuff your parents accumolate. :lmao:

Awe  to you.

Morning y'all.

Today is our meeting at school:scared1:. Hopefully, all will go well.

Hope you all have a good day.:yay:

I hope all goes well for you Rie.

One day at a time - it'll get better. Kyle coming in on a weekday has got to help as well.

Piglet - forgot to ask - Have you dried out yet? You need to find a way to get back for another game. Under a torrential downpour is NOT the way to experience tailgating & Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.

Anyhow, for the record, Go Saints & Tigers! I'm glad I was able to view those games from my dry sofa!

Hey Y'all,

Alexis is doing well & she went to school today. No phone call from the school yet, so that's good. We had a family get-together on Saturday, I wish y'all could have seen that child running around with her cousins! It was something. She did start hurting during the afternoon, rested a little while, after the Tylenol kicked in, she was up & at it again! My sisIL made an awesome shrimp & okra gumbo! But I think I overdid it because my stomach has been messed up since.

Kathy, I'm glad you'll get to see Kyle today. I know that will make you feel a little better while he's there. It's going to take a lot of time to get over this loss. Our Smoky has been gone 3 years & we all still miss him. If you need to talk, please call me!

Lorie, I'm sorry Erik is still sick! I'm glad they didn't poke the little guy anymore, poor baby. Prayers that he gets well soon.:flower3:

Julie, Prayers that the meeting goes well today. :flower3:

Lori, I'm so sorry you fell!:sad1: I hope you feel better & this doesn't mess up your vacation too much.

Mary, I'm glad David had a good time & that Mom managed to not cry!

Bethany, I'm sorry you had such a rainy day for your first Death Valley experience! Hopefully you'll get to go back for a nice dry game soon. :wizard:

Terry, I'm surprised you were able to get her moved in one weekend! You must be tired.
