Meredith Vieira to replace Katie Couric on Today show

I'm not sure why they picked Meredith over Ann Curry? I think Ann has a much better personality.

Although I like Meredith Vieira, I can't image watching her in the morning I also can't see her opposite Matt Lauer.
I really like Ann Curry as well and she is already at home filling for Katie. I would have liked to see her moved into the Katie Couric position.

I'm not so sure about Meredith Viera. I haven't watched her enough to form much of an opinion on her.

It seems like they've been grooming Ann Curry for Katie's role for a long time, so I'm surprised they didn't pick her, but sorry, for me it's a pleasant surprise. I think she's one of the worst interviewers I've ever seen.

I agree, Ann should have gotten the job. I don't like Merideth on the View and don't think she should be replacing Katie.

Oh no...I just saw it on the Today website. I was hoping it was going to be Campbell Brown. I thought her and Matt clicked well together. I am kinda glad that it is not Ann Curry, I dont like her interview style either, I think she gets to into the persons space or something. I guess they will just juggle people around until September.

I posted my thoughts on this on the Katie thread. IMHO it is just a bad deal. I think that Meredith will end up like Deborah Norville, she is just not the right person for the job.

The word on the TV street re: Ann Curry is that they 'like her where she is' as news anchor and she recently signed a new contract to remain there. The recent deal was sweetened by some new responsibilities at NBC's Dateline so they don't really have an incentive to move her.

Curry, 49, has been the "Today" news anchor since 1997. Given this role, the fact she's not seen as the slam-dunk favorite to succeed Couric may be telling. NBC recently gave her another big job, as co-anchor of "Dateline NBC."

I like Meredith Viera for the most part. She was the last reason for me to watch The View. Guess I'll have to find something else to listen to at 11:00 a.m.

I like Meredith.. I have given up watching The View because of Star and Joy...

I hope she does well on Today. She has proven she can do many things. I think she will have to change up from her style on The View..

Why not Paris Hilton? She has about the same serious journalistic credentials as Katie Couric. More warmth than Merideth and is obviously a better on screen "performer" than Anne.

I heard this several weeks ago and started looking for a replacement for the Today show the very minute. It's when I started this thread on the Daily Buzz. I don't like MV AT ALL, didn't even like her when she did the local news 20 years ago back in NY. I know my mother is rolling in her grave....
