Meds in Carryon

This is new to me. This year we are taking 2 cousins and a friend with us. The two cousins child and teen both need to use a nebuliser(not sure if I spelled this correctly)from time to time. I have never travelled with anything but over the countr meds. My question is, can those little viles of meds used in the nebuliser be put into the quart sized plastic bag used in carryons? also is there any problem traveling with the nebuliser machine in the carry on?

We only fly once a year and that is to Disney, the two cousins have never flown. Thanks for your input.

Nebulizers and associated liquid medicines can be taken through security. The nebulizer itself will need to be removed from the case. The meds can go in the 3-1-1 bag if the individual vials are 3.4 oz or less and they will fit, but medicines can be carried through separately in containers larger than 3.4 oz and don't need to be in the 3-1-1 bag.

TSA has different rules for medication vs other liquids, I recommend you read the TSA site to make sure that advice you are given is correct. I don't travel with nebulizer meds but I do travel with other liquid meds, I simply put them in a ziplock back by themself and tell the TSA person that I have them, they never give them a glance when i put them in the bin to go through the scanner. I keep other liquids ie toiletries in a separate bag and send it through the scanner as instructed. I will say that a few times I said I had meds and I was told I didn't have to put it thru the scanner in a bin, they asked me to put it back in my bag that was then put thru the scanner, not sure why some days are different than others, but its the TSA and their rules change alot.

The biggest thing is to remember the 3 ounce limit on non-medication liquids , they are strict about that, even after all these years of the restrictions I still see people with full size bottles of shampoo, shower gel etc trying to go thru security every time I fly and they are denied and have to throw it away, even "when its only part full, why can't I take it" happens.

Thank you for such quick responses. The viles I believe are less than an ounce each. But we will have to take at least eight to be sure. I have no problem using one of our carry on quart sized plastic bags for them alone just wanted to make sure. There are 7 of us traveling together so we will have enough quart sized plastic bags for all our 3 oz or less items. Do you think I will need a copy of there prescription with me also?

We would carry ours in the box the vials come in with the prescription label on the box.

Keep the meds in the original box with the prescription sticker on it. I then put the meds inside a large ziplock baggie. We have found to have much less trouble with the actual meds than with the nebulizer itself. It's basically an air compressor.

Take the meds and nebulizer out of your carryon. Put the nebulizer in a bin by itself and declare to the TSA agents at the checkpoint that you have a nebulizer. It is very likely to be scanned more than once and swabbed for explosives more than once. Not a big deal really, it just takes more time so be sure to leave extra time for navigating security.

We have traveled several times with my daughter's meds and nebulizer.

Don't bother taking a copy of the script. They won't even look at it. I don't even take meds in original pill bottles. My wife takes a nebulizer and no longer takes it ou of the bag it's in. Most of the time they don't care.
