If my flight lands about 9pm, I'm wondering about my luggage. I know they say it takes up to 3 hours to arrive at your hotel room but I wouldn't want them to wake us up at midnight bc our luggage arrived. Wondering others experience. Would they leave outside your door?

It's 3 hours from the time you check-in at the resort and no, they won't leave it outside of your door. You can either call bell services and have them hold your luggage overnight or collect your luggage from baggage claim at the airport.

Since you're going to go to your room to sleep, it's a good plan for you to pick up your bags yourself at the airport baggage claim area and wheel them (rental carts are right next to the baggage carrousel) to the DME desk.
The DME bus driver will load your bags into the bus luggage area and give them to you when you reach your resort. That way, you'll already have them for use when you go to your room.

If you DO intend to pick up your own bags at the airport, DO NOT attach the DME luggage tags to the bags.

Thank you for the info & one more question. If I pick up my own bags and bring to ME then when I arrive at resort, will I be responsible for getting them to my room or will the resort help? I know they don't help when departing and it's very tough for us bc we stay at POR and have young children that can't help.

Our plane last week was very late and landed at 9:20 (vs the scheduled 6:30). I was just traveling with my son and disabled medically fragile daughter, and due to her wheelchair and the amount of medically necessary carry one, there was literally no way for us to even collect our luggage ourselves.

We then had what I think was the longest DME ride in history and did not arrive at the resort until midnight. Our bags seem to have arrived at the resort around 1:30 am, but they were directly transported to bell services and a message was put into our phone without ringing our room that our bags had arrived and we could have bell services deliver when we woke up. I did not ask the front desk to do this. I assume it's automatic after a certain hour.

The baggage service is always willing to help but you would be expected to tip them for helping- it would not be free as a part of DME if you pick up the bags yourself.

As an FYI this question would be best asked on the transportation sub forum of the DIS, not here on theme parks. There are lots of experts with lots of experience there to help you.
Bags arrive up to 3 hours after check in, not plane landing. As a Moderate resort POR does have luggage assistance but I am not sure how late or how efficient they are at that time of night

After 10:00, ME stops picking up luggage so be aware of that if your plane runs late!

Just call bell services - they'll be happy to help you .... They just don't do it automatically.

And, make that call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an in-room luggage pick-up on check-out day at a specific time.

You have several options.
1. tag your bags. pack anything you will need for the night and first thing the next morning in your carry on bags. Then, when you get to the resort, tell Luggage Assistance that you want your checked bags held until the next morning. Tell the front desk the same thing. When you get to your room, hang out the 'privacy please' sign on your room door. When you wake up, the message button on your phone will be blinking, with a message telling you your bags are there. Call down and have them brought to the room.
2. Don't tag the bags, and get them yourselves at baggage claim. Take them to the bus with you, and the driver will stow them beneath your bus. The driver will expect a tip for 'luggage handling'. When you get to the resort, there should be someone to help you with your bags...and get them to your room. And they will expect to be tipped as well.
3. Tag the bags and wait up for them. If the flight lands on-time, at 9:00, you should be at POR around 10:15-10:30. Which means you can expect your bags to arrive any time up to about 1:30am!!!! Probably sooner, but that's not etched in stone.
