McCain Speech... What a hero

As for me, and that's the only person I can speak for, last night clinched the deal for me, and it wasn't McCain's speech that did it. I am an AZ native, so I know A LOT about McCain. There are things I agree with and disagree with about him. The same as anyone. I don't agree with all people all the time, rather it is political, religious, education, economics and etc. That being said, it was the person/people who tried to interrupt McCain that have sealed my vote for him. Those folks were rude, unrestrained, showed open lack of self control and were threatening. They are an open example of Senator Obama and his supporters. Rather Obama condones that behavior or not, and I wouldn't believe he really would, is not important. That is the vision of 'change' I was left with that I would recieve if Obama were president. I may be 'old fashioned' but human respect and kindness really goes a long way. I was impressed with McCain's kind and respectful words concerning Senator Obama as well.

They are all for freedom of speech as long as the person speeking share their point of view. Whackos.

I thought his speech was good. I have respect for those who have served and fought for our country. I believe he stated being a POW in his speech to speak to the Independents about his character and where he comes from.

I don't agree with how he wants to lead the country, but that doesn't make him a bad man. I think he has bad judgement in picking Palin as a Veep, but the conservatives could easily turn that around to the Dem ticket and so I'll stop here.;)

What character????
He is living in the past and his only goal is another war.

He was a prisoner of war so what???

Is he so special???
No he is a sad old man who is living in the past.

I just read that it will take decades and the children of our children to pay for his and Busch crazy ideas to win the war .

Oh, my God. Tell me I'm not reading this. What? Disagree with him politically, but to say "so what?" to his being a POW??

I take it you've never had anyone in your family fight in a war or be captured?

I would think a person whose fought in a war (especially a POW) would be motivated to keep us out of a war if he could.

I do not have the words to describe how disturbing this post is to me. I think that if Barack Obama read this, he would not want your vote. At least, I hope he would feel that way.

Unfortunately, I think Obama WOULD take this "persons" vote. If he didn't want the votes of this kind, than he would denounce all the rioting and protesting at the RNC. Has anyone heard him say one thing against it?

Why is he so special?

Well that prisoner of war is one of many who served in the armed forces which allows you to continue to live in freedom each and every day going where you want, doing what you want, and allowing you to say what you want - including the demeaning comment you just posted.

That's why he and so many others like him are special.

What he went through was a tragic, horrid experience and he is absolutely a hero! But, that doesn't make him presidential material! If it did, my Grandfather who is one of the last remaining POWs from WWII should have run for president....Now, that's a scary thought!!!! :scared1:

(I love my Papa, just wouldn't vote for him for president!)

It's not like McCain is running for president based solely on being a POW. He has years and years of experience, unlike his opponent. His being a POW just highlights the sacrifice he has made for his country in addition to his experience.

Not voting for McCain.....but I respect the man and all he has been through without a doubt.
Kerri

Now THAT is an opinion I can respect. Thank you for that.

From what I have read about/biographies on JFK, I don't think I would have agreed with him on everything politically........think what he did to his wife was horrible, but I would never, never disrespect his service to this country.

A person can take all the cheap shots they want, but the minute you've discounted their service, you've just lost your argument.

Again so what???

The civilized world pukes upon the US .
We are NOT the police of the world and each country has to fight his own battle.

McCain loved to stay in prison. He obviously had no desire to return to his family and that makes him a very creepy person.

Nothing special just a person who loves to be in the picture .

He choose to stay because he is a man of character and integrity no matter what he faces. I am not a military expert, but DH has served for over 22 years. We discussed this and he said the rule is you don't leave out of sequence of capture (he may have worded it differently). A man without integrity would have said "I am out here" if given the chance especially given the treatment he knew was to follow.
His father did not try to go against the military rules. McCain explained last night that the Vietnamese arranged for his release when they learned of his father's position as a propoganda tool. It was even explained that his family did suffer as his father stood at the border knowing he had just released orders to bomb the area he knew his son was held captive. How devastating. But, a military family knows country first is not just a campaign slogan.
John McCain does not like war. If anyone would know the horrors, it is him. But, he will keep our country safe using all means possible including military action as a last resort.

Obama claimed on O'Reilly's program that aired last night that he would do the same, btw.

No, being a POW doesn't solely qualify a person to become president. Who has ever said it does? McCain did not even want to bring the issue to the forefront but because the story is so compelling and is such a clear illustration of his character, resolve and bravery that his campaign insisted it be told in the public setting and used as part of his campaign. McCain's experience reaches far beyond those 5 1/2 years as a POW. But, that time was a chapter in his life that shaped the man he is today.

Frankly, to call him "crazy" for serving his country and following military protocol is IMO insulting to all men and women serving our country.

This is a wonderful post, thank you for writing it. :thumbsup2

I guess you're right. So sad and disappointing.

Oh my God! Are you for real?!??! I haven't read the entire thread, but have seen your last two posts. Your previous post was just awful...and sad...

But you see, when someone talks like you just did, I'm going to listen to what that person has to say. There is no hatred in your voice and you are respectful.

As much as I disagree with Obama/Biden, they are good American men who see their way of doing what is best for our country. And as much as it is a little scary to me to think about, if Obama becomes President, I will respect him in the presidency and I hope he can work with the Rep. somehow to get some of these problems solved. Poking a little fun at each other is fine, but don't disrespect the office. Our country is one of the greatest in history, and no matter who is the leader of it, they are no slouch.
