McCain Speech... What a hero

Ask Karl Rove what he thinks about McCains POW experience.

No doubt McCain was a hero during his service. It's been a while since we had one running for president.

I'm not sure I'd want to choose a president based on just that however.

Andy
I agree, we shouldn't choose him just for that. It is only one reason to vote for him. We also have his experiences after the war. Years and years of experience. Contrast that to Obama who has experience following the Chicago Democratic Machine. Years and years of experience. Including selling poliltical favors for money. Also, years and years of experience.

What he went through was a tragic, horrid experience and he is absolutely a hero! But, that doesn't make him presidential material! If it did, my Grandfather who is one of the last remaining POWs from WWII should have run for president....Now, that's a scary thought!!!! :scared1:

(I love my Papa, just wouldn't vote for him for president!)

Well, your Papa wasn't a US Senator for decades was he?

The dems really don't need to keep restating what Jimmy Carter and the liberal media have been jamming down your throats....we KNOW that being a POW ALONE does not make you presidential material. MCCAINS DECADES OF EXPERIENCE IN THE US SENATE AND WORKING WITH WORLD LEADERS MAKES HIM QUALIFIED. Stop beating the dead horse. He is qualified, none of you can deny it, especially when you put a man with 18 months experience up as a candidate, (most ofthat time was spent looking for another job btw).

Being a POW just is the icing on his well-qualified cake.

I think that dems are running so scared right now, they are shaking in their boots, they just keep repeating what CNN and MSNBC tell them to say.

Surprised to see that there are no topics about McCain's Speech! What a great Speech. I had tears in my eyes as he discussed his time in Hanoi.... Where he was broken by his captors and brought back by his fellow captors. What a hero!!! He gave so much for this country! He is such a Hero
Yes, but you see, according to the Obama camp, we shouldn't be talking about that. Of course, we also can't talk about Obama's experience. Or about his wifes comments on the campaign trail. Or about his pastor of 20 years. Nor about one of his good friends for 20 years. Nor about one of his good friends now in jail. Nor about the issues either. The only thing we should be talking about is Bristol Palin. :rolleyes1

Is anyone else a little surprised that post #19 has been allowed to stay on the board? Even though it is abbreviated? Shouldn't that be erased? Isn't it trying to circumvent the filters?

John McCain, in addition to his years in Congress, and in the Senate, was also a commander of the largest squandron in the Navy. That clearly is EXECUTIVE experience, in addition to all of the other experiences that has made him the leader that he is.

Don't talk about his cheif campaign contributor who is a new age guru whacko and is best friends with Tom Cruise and dabbles in Scientology either:rolleyes1

ITA with everything! It's mind boggling that one candidate with so much experience can be deemed "not presidential material" and yet a candidate with community service on his short resume is a glowing example of presidential material. It. does. not. compute.

Being a "hero" doesn't mean you're qualified to run America. We've had eight years of "the man everyone would like to have a beer with" and look where that's gotten us. Only fools would substitute one characature for another and believe that the country is going to get better because now we have a "hero". Isn't doing the same thing and expecting different results the definition of insanity?

In watching the RNC, I can totally understand where these fools come from and I'm quite relieved that the Obama/Biden ticket is going to get the young voter out to vote. :thumbsup2

Last night John McCain talked about the mistakes and poor judgment of his youth. Obama has also talked about the poor judgement he made in his youth when he did drugs. It makes sense that Obama would go after the young voter because young people show poor judgment.

As Winston Churchill once said, (paraphrasing) "A young person who isn't a liberal has no heart. An older person who isn't a conservative has no brain."

So Obama is a Scientologist, too? I thought he was a Muslim. Who knew? ;)

Are we really running out of legitimate issues to discuss?

I think we should be very careful when we start throwing stones about who is contributing to which campaigns.

No, I'm not insinuating that he is a scientologist, I'm just insinuating, tht scientologists don't ususally part with thier money unless they expect something back. Ever been to Clearwater?

Nobody is saying that simply being a hero means you're qualified to run our country. Perhaps you're not reading the posts carefully...oh, but I see you are clearly an Obama supporter. There's better threads for you on this board.

I watched both conventions...and am not convinced of all this change that Obama is going to bring. Where is his experience???

:thumbsup2 Exactly. Just saying "change" over and over doesn't "change" anything. I kept waiting for the substance behind it. I kept waiting for hi to at least hint at how he intends to change anything. I didn't hear anything but soundbite worthy quips.

Why is community service on someone's resume a bad thing? Obama did community service right out of college at age 23. I think it is commendable that someone so young would want to give his time and effort to the community. Are you saying to young people do not do this type of work because it would look bad on your resume? I guess people living in small towns with small minds would not know or want to understand what exactly is involve in organizing a community. What was Palin doing at age 23? running in a beauty pageant or cheerleading? I really don't understand why being a community organizer is a joke?? That is mind boggling to me.

It is not a joke. It is a needed service and I think all Comm. Organ. can be proud of their service.

The point she was trying to make, while poking some fun (I think we all can agree both sides use it from politicians to late night tv) was that Obama was saying all the experience she had was being Mayor (I found it funny he left out the govenor part). He demeaned her.........he opened the door, imo, on that one.

I don't know what Palin was doing, but I know what McCain was doing at 23, and it was more than community service. Nothing wrong with community service, Cindy MccCain has been doing it all her life. My 12 yr old son does alot of community service. He isn't qualified for president either.

I don't think OA was insinuating anything like that at all. But there IS a difference.

Was the bolded part really necessary?

So often distinguished and/or jaded military personnel say that they have had a tough time re-adjusting to civilian life, with the lack of discipline, structure and so on. I know, for example, that my RSM was and is particularly fed up.

On the flip side, though, I'm sure that there are some soldiers et al that find the transition pleasing. It's all very subjective and not one to assume on.

Good luck with that question. Simple as it may sound, it's been nearly impossible to get a straight answer.

McCain is definitely a hero and his story was very compelling. But he is not the best at delivering speeches. It's just not his strength. And will someone please stop using a green backdrop behind him. They have done that before and green does not make him look good. He looks frail with that backdrop. Once they changed the backdrop, he looked much better!
